Do you like it when areas have carpets showing what wool is in that area?
When people started doing it, I kinda liked it. But now i feel that it is more interesting to find out what is hidden in the area. For example, if you know that the light blue wool is there, that means the intersection is there, too. it also means this area must be quite harder. It kills the "exploration" feeling, for me, at least.

Well depends on if you really know the proper wool order (White>Orange>Mag>LBlue,etc.). Also depends if the map-maker even has a "intended order" for intersections.
Above all I really do like it: it's useful to see which area can potentially lead to the next intersection (or not), it's useful to see which areas may be harder or easier (or not). However as the top post mentioned it definitely takes away a feeling of exploration and curiosity.. that is if the intersection actually follows the traditional order of wool, in respect to difficulty of areas.
Damn, I ragequit The Painter way too early it seems. I fell into the void in that vertical drop area, forget the name. I should really get around to re-doing that map as soon as I wreck Aima Caves.
I died there too, but after a lot of grinding I came back to it. The map has some GREAT areas after that, by the way. I got to red wool and died again, so I ragequitted, but I'll probably come back to it once I'm done working on a non-minecraft thing.
Hey all I found this whilst patrolling the forums. If you are uncertain how spawn chunks work, and are wondering how much room you actually have in perma loaded spawn chunks, this is a very cool world/schematic to have. Check it out here

What is your opinion on using other peoples builds in your maps? Or using an area from someone else's unfinished map?
~~~
I don't really like the idea of using other people's builds/areas in maps. One of the things I like about CTMs is their possibility for creativity, and when you use someone else's builds, it kind of takes away that creativity. I like to know that all of the builds in a map are made by the mapper. If you are going to use someone else's build, change it a lot. About using other people's areas, don't. Even if it's unfinished, it doesn't seem like a good idea to just use someone's idea for your own purposes.
I feel kind of weird about it, it really depends on the type of creation you want to use. Say you're awful at making trees. That's what tree repositories are there for. A library of small and solely aesthetic builds for you to append into your own project. This type of work seems fine to me, so long as you credit the author.
When you get to bigger stuff things get more complicated in my eyes. I my experience, a LOT of effort needs to be put into a random build to make it CTM ready. The layout of a random build is almost never prime CTM material, stuff like poor layout, tunneling and max spawns can happen. And if you are to change anything you have to keep it coherent with the theme already in place. Which can be a bit of a nightmare. Taking a random structure and putting it into your map may be harder to make work than actually spending the time to make it yourself. The attention to gameplay is the difference between a CTM build, and a standard creative build. As Chipmunk kinda stated above, using other peoples structures in your map can break immersion because of large aesthetic differences throughout the map. Hitting your audience hard with a huge appended masterpiece, only to later give them your own traditional style, will feel lazy like a mash-up map.
Areas... I've gotta say no. That is just too much. Make your own areas you lazy n00bs - _ -
I thought there was a rule about one CQ per-page thing.
Eh, whatever. Screw it.
Community Question:
Would you fight one Fangride-sized duck or one hundred duck-sized Fangride?
One Fangride-Sized Duck, I mean duh the hundred duck-sized Fangride's wouldn't finish the fight for years. They would probably end up quitting and working on a map for 5 years... Wait was this how Fangride was made? I'm very confused.
Um yeah probably.
yet another
Community QuestionWhat do you think about maps that use non-wool items for the monument, such as discs or emeralds?
There are many item groups that can be used as monument items, such as: stained clay, stained glass, flowers, potions, dyes, etc.
what is your opinion?
Great! It provides some variety and maps like Vinyl Fantasy are epic.
I don't think it's a good idea. A map should be your own work.
What do you think about areas that use a mix of layouts?
Like a natural cavern leading to a castle or something?
