COMMUNITY QUESTION: How do you think of areas, i.e. get inspiration for them?
I sometimes see something in real life, like one time I saw a forest that looked interesting, and I'm making a whole area out of what i saw. Other times when I'm bored I just think of stuff, or when I see other maps I see an area and like how it looks, and try to make an area using that mapmakers technique.
I have no inspiration right now, so that really why i asked this question, but that is the rough idea of how I get ideas for areas.
I watch old movies like Harry Potter and sometimes newer movies like twilight so as to get inspiration from the landscapes.

Every bloody CTM map series boasts that it's bigger, longer, and harder than other CTM series. It's almost as if it's a **** measuring contest. (bigger, longer, harder...)
Anyone else have the problem with not getting emails? I followed this topic so I can read the posts when I cant get on my comp, and it hasn't been sending me any in the last few days.
I'm getting the same problem.
I bet you it's Invision Power Broken at work again.
Opinions are opinions for a reason. You weren't impressed, I was. Take it or leave it.
This guy gets it.
(On another note, Inf, have you ever played a Fallout/Stalker game? It isn't required in order to enjoy From Ashes/Flames, but it sure as heck helps. Comparing the environments in both games, but particularly Fallout, the maps do a fantastic job capturing the atmosphere and feel that was portrayed. Even putting the comparisons aside, From Ashes was a really original map, and fairly balanced if you played the dungeons in order. Maybe I missed the first time you explained what you didn't like about it, but I really don't understand where you're coming from. Unless you're just taking up an unpopular opinion for the sake of being different than others, which is a pretty sad thing to be doing. :/ )

I haven't played any of these maps, but I know this is going to start an argument so just stop. Please...
EDIT: Maybe Infamy doesn't like the map. His choice, you gotta deal with it. Say I didn't like Dreadsky Isles. Everyone else does, but it doesn't matter! It's a personal opinion of how they rank their maps, so deal with other people not agreeing with you.

The last thing I want to do is start an argument, especially since I won't be around for the next seven hours.
And you really don't need to preach to me about respecting people's opinions, and how I need to "deal with it". I get that, you have no idea how much I get it. However, since Inf hasn't fully explained himself (at least recently, I don't remember anything he might have said earlier,) I don't see where he's coming from. And since he's stating his opinion as a fact, I'd like him to explain himself.
wait what? people still remember that project? ;3; I kinda temporarily gave up on that mini-map. I do plan to come back to it, but right now im busy with collaboration work and lps and playing maps and making speluncaphobia ('cause inspiration yay!) so yeah i won't be making that map for a a while XD
Besides those, I'm also looking forward to Vinyl Fantasy 3, Speluncaphobia, Syncquential, and Septum Immoriel (not necessarily in that order). And let's not forget Uncharted Territory 7!
(And also, great to see people looking forward to The Painter! Kinda makes me feel bad for not working on it recently...)
Edit: A few more that I forgot would be Forgotten, TGP 2, and Arcane Tales 3.

I said it a while back, but I don't want to go find that post because I'm lazy.
Lol you're all acting as if all arguments are bad. You're wrong.
I like this post but arguments about things like these almost never change someones opinions so generally it is always something like this
Person 1:"I like/ dislike this map."
Person 2:"Naw uh that map was Amazing/Terrible."
Person 1:" Annoying rant on how they are right,"
Person 2:"Annoying rant on how they are right"
and if it goes longer it is generally never better. Every now and then there is 2 people who instead of going on a rant give their review on the map and it ends with some agreement but of course the person who did not like the map still does not like the map and the person who did still liked the map. So essentially nothing happened. I have never seen an argument on this forum or vechs forum that did not end in one of these two ways and almost always the first. But I do agree with your post arguments are not always bad so I +1.
yeah... except for the sharpness 8 notch apple before the first wool... or dungeon... or challenge... or monster
Woot! that sounds like something like "hmmm How can I make the easiest map ever." though even with that unless I play the map I would not call it the easiest one ever. I am sure there is easier than that.
What is this "Monumenta" you silly blokes speak of
Oh and skeeto about the spiders going passive.... "Just use String!!!" (someone better get that reference)
Monumenta is an old CTM server that I, along with many others, used to go on when we browsed Vechs' thread back in the day. It was truly an awesome server filled with great times (and pranks). This was also made before Galaxia, so don't get the wrong idea.
Lol, I made a new lightmap for my three_two Gravel pack; vanilla Minecraft has never looked so good... (also using some cool skymaps with custom clouds etc)
That's really neat, do you think you could post some other angles so we could get a better understanding of what you've made. Also, a download would be neat.

There ain't much left of the world these days. The gods have forsaken us, there's no denying that. But still you press on. For what? A chance to sift through the ashes one last time? The hope to one day be called a hero? Whatever your reason, you've got a lot of work to do. The corruption won't leave without a fight, so you better get started.

Now that's awesome. VERY cool. You're going to have to send that to us naow.
So yeah, im making progress again (woot woot) and currently im working on my yellow wool area, Bleakstone Precipice / Fort Bleakstone. specifically im working on Fort Bleakstone. So yeah, here's a WIP picture
so yeah, it still needs work (obviously) I've yet to add depth to the wall, some color to break up the grey, the interior isn't even begun, and the roof of the largest tower needs finishing. Regardless of all these facts, what do you think? am i on the right track?
