I've worked on it 3 days. Up to Intersection 3 and Yellow Wool in making it.
I've been working so insanely fast because Hurricane Sandy has trapped me inside, so I've been mapmaking. I've had the last 3 days off of school, and I'm having the rest of the week off of school because of the hurricane. 2 week break from school FTW! (This also means I'll be able to work on my map moar.
WittyWhiscash, a comment on the screenshot of your area that you posted (this advice goes to Limitless too, from the looks of the screenshots he's posted): 1. Both you guys need moar block variety. The areas you've shown just have a couple of block types, so they don't look that interesting. Like, in Limitless's photo of the house, the cave ceiling behind the house just looks like solid stone. That doesn't make for an interesting environment. If you have a sandstone cave, add patches of coal and redstone ores! Put in vines! Etc. etc. 2. Lighting. This is the last thing you would think an evil CTM mapper like me would say, but adding lighting to an area really increases how it looks. Add patches of glowstone in the walls and ceiling. It lets the player see the scope and size of the area, but doesn't stop mob spawning on the ground. See my picture of the netherrack forest area for advice on how to do this.
EDIT: Btw, feel free to give me advice too! I'm not some magical expert amazing mapper just because I'm involved in Pantheon and I'm giving advice. I'm making my very first map too, and I'm no more pro at mapmaking than you guys. I'm just giving subjective advice as a viewer of the pictures you've posted.
Don't worry.. I'm no where near done with that area.. I'm big on block variety :
Woah Limitless. Those screenshots look really, really good.
Maybe just a bit TOO much variety in the 1st screenshot though? D: While I advocate a lot of block variety, it can't just be willy-nilly, different kinds of blocks everywhere. (Not saying that that's what that is, just saying that.) It needs to have a main theme, and while the blocks don't need to be similar (like snow and ice), they should have some theme tying them together, whether that is contrasting colors, similar colors, dark blocks, light and dark blocks, etc.
Was the second picture the tower in your 1st batch of pictures? WOW has it ever came far.
Haha yeah, I love the look of it. Soul sand + end stone look really well together.
Also, Is world edit not working? It used to not work off and on until i logged out like 20 billion times or waitied a day or 2 but now it just doesn't work period.

I wanted the first area to bring out the point of how the dimensions or biomes or something is torn and is "odd" but I calmed it down a bit in the intersection (second picture) with a nice contrast of end stone + soul sand with vines.
I do agree though, I think I might make less snow because the snow was supposed to "cap" the mountains but I think their is too much snow. If not get rid of it all together or swap it with one of the other block types.

Don't know how to answer that. O.O
Woops another noob mistake meant to say can't wait until your done!
And Delthyn can go back to being grammar nazi. I have been fired.
The proper term is, of course, Ya'll. Keep that in mind, Ya'll. Howdy Ya'll, Joe Hills here.
Ya'll. Ya'll. Ya'll. Ya'll. Try living in the south. I have to listen to that Every. Single. Day.
Anyhow, all these pics look awesome. It's too bad I take a long time to do CTM maps (I'm almost done Matt...I just need a little moar time), because there are a lot of maps I want to play.

Howdy Ya'll Delthyn, so I heard you're a void walker. Ya'll defy gravity.
Must be annoying. Then yet again us up in Canada use eh a lot. So I heard you like to browse the forums eh?
Thanks. And you'll have even more to squee about since I'm putting in a happiness dispenser. It dispenses bats. Squee!

Not to be mean but you complain alot... how about you enjoy life instead of hate on it?

Soooo many things wrong with that but just one catches my attention.
On a more on-topic note.... I suck at filling the insides of large, open rooms. I can never think of good things to put in them, and they look empty.
The pic below isn't completely done yet. (It's an area at Intersection 3.) But I can tell it's already looking plain, even though I'm not done decorating it. So, community question time. What would you add to the below picture to make it moar interesting?
Okay, two things. Number 1: Delthyn, it should be y'all. It's a contraction for you all. Also, living in the south, hearing and saying the word "y'all" just becomes natural. One time I was talking to someone from Chicago, and I just casually said, "y'all" in conversation, and the person flipped out and said something along the lines of "Oh my god, you said 'y'all'". I hadn't even noticed it :3.
Number 2: Isaac, maybe a big statue on the half slabs. Or a fountain, or something. Something to take up that space and not leave it as a big, blank, empty area.

If I were making it, I would honestly leave it as is, because I'm just like that. But I would add a couple more pillars, maybe some of them not having mob spawners.
Straight mossy, blocky rooms do not work, unless it's Magenta in Lethamyr which is probably the most soul-crushing thing ever.
I'd suggest adding a few water streams going through it to trap the player and section off the room a bit. An experienced player would just run through and smoke his speed pot while reading the New Pork Times.
(If anyone can remember that, I will honestly give you a million dollars.)
Also, add a few path-like blocks (cobble, cracked stone brick) to vaguely trail the person around to a loot chest or signs. The walls should have some markings on them like random stone circles or creeper faces...etc.
Every bloody CTM map series boasts that it's bigger, longer, and harder than other CTM series. It's almost as if it's a **** measuring contest. (bigger, longer, harder...)

Nope. When you live in certain areas, the "a" is drawn out to the extent that it is no longer a slang contraction of you and all, but is rather its own word. The apostrophe is what my mistake was.
And I agree, having a central focus point (statue, fountain, altar, etc.) would make that room look better.
I guess it depends on what he's going for. A "temple" structure should have a redstone dust stained altar, or a statue. Since it's made of mossy cobble, a creeper statue would fit best. If it's a throne room, then...well...obviously... If it's just an ornamental room, then the best would be a fountain.
Anyways, thanks for the suggestions guys. I will probably implement some of them into this room. This is one floor of an evil castle I'm making in one area.
O.O
