This guide has been discontinued as of April 29, 2014. A lot of the techniques and descriptions in this guide have been written in past versions and are therefore mostly outdated. It is unknown whether I will be able to continue this project in the future
This is the Super Hostile guide, which will help you through your Super Hostile adventures. This guide features walkthroughs, secrets, tips, and various video series.
This guide uses the following difficulty system to rate dungeons (please see the original Super Hostile thread to view ratings for the entire map instead):Not hard at all, not that much mobs, nor puzzles. Tons of easily accessible resources. Mostly for newbs.WOODEN TOOLSA bit difficult, some mobs, maybe some puzzles. Less resources, and may contain a monster spawner or two. Similar to regular Minecraft.STONE TOOLSNot too difficult, will contain mobs. Contains much less resources, and will contain spawners. Similar to regular Minecraft.STONE TOOLSDifficult, a lot of mobs. Not a lot of resources, and may contains a bit too much spawners. Similar to hardcore mode of regular Minecraft. Obviously not recommended to those without battle training.IRON TOOLSExtremely difficult, may contain a ridiculous amount of mobs and puzzles, and a lot of traps. Too many spawners for regular players, and those without training may not even survive for seconds.DIAMOND TOOLSIt is important to know, however, this difficulty rating system I developed is based on conquering the dungeon, NOT getting the wool. Also, tools are recommendations, and they only relate to the difficulty of the dungeon. It's not necessary to have these levels.
This guide uses color codes, symbols, and different fonts to help you quickly identify things within it like wool.Wool locations are indicated by the following structure of text: Pink woolThe text color and wool color changes depending on which fleece box you got to.Chests are indicated by the following structure of text: Potion - MediumThere are a few other fonts and symbols used through this guide, but they are used less often, so I won't explain them here.Thread identificators:

Welcome to the Sea of Flame, a challenging destination for Minecraft players, where the heat will not keep you going. You will be discouraged to explore this dangerous island from the large amount of monster spawners, traps, and puzzles placed around it.
Let's start from the very beginning. You will spawn on a small obsidian platform (entitled, "Ye Olde Respawne Pointe", at position x63, y66, z-31). This was the spawn point in the original Sea of Flame. Just jump on land, and make sure you don't fall in the lava. The signs will explain the rules.
In case you would die, the spawn point (which is the not placed you started) is located at x79, y71, z0, which right in the middle of the main island, where the glowstone is placed.
The main island is in fact called the Classic Island. Check out this screenshot to get a quick look at it:
If you go around the "wall of signs", you will see the backstory of Sea of Flame II and the Zistonian Battlesign - Level 1. If you think this sign will not be useful, you're wrong. It can be used to knock enemies away from you, even down cliffs, which will probably kill them.
Anyways, take a pair of "manpance" and head for what any Minecraft player would want first of all: the tree. It's on top of the small mountain on the other side of the island. Read on to learn how to handle the harvesting properly. There's quite a few ways to get up there, maybe you could try to get creative to make your way on your own. Here's one of the most secure and efficient ways:
Listen carefully. First of all, you will need to gather 24 sand blocks from below and convert them all into sandstone. Afterwards, see that first web above that gravel "L"? Destroy it with your fist. Make a bridge from the highest point with two of the sandstone blocks you just made, but DON'T PLACE ANYTHING NEXT TO THE GRAVEL. If you did everything correctly, it will look like this:
[Missing image to be re-uploaded later.]
Now this is the tricky part. It's easy though, just climb on the "tail" of the "L" you just accessed. Break those two gravel blocks just beside you. Don't worry about any falling gravel. At your left now, do you see that single floating block a bit higher? Destroy that first, then the block beside it. You're almost there!
Take your remaining 4 blocks of sandstone, and build a staircase up to the base of the tree, just like in this screenshot:
Now you should have 4 blocks of gravel from climbing up to here, and a fifth one from the block under the tree. Time to take it down! Use those blocks to climb up the tree while breaking the logs, you should have enough to get onto the leaves. Make sure you remove some of the leaves to let some light in there, a skeleton spawner is hidden between the leaves. It could be really fatal, you might have to unzip a fresh copy of the map again...
So there you go, that's about it! Don't worry about getting saplings, you'll have a lot quickly enough. Climb back down onto land from the path you built. Now, time to find a safe spot before night falls. There are many options, but here we'll do the most practical one: you're heading towards the Victory Monument!
Victory Monument
You should really try to find a shelter for the night, the island is infested with creeper and blaze spawners. You wouldn't last more than a minute without one. Let's go to the practical solution: the Victory Monument. Vechs designs his CTM maps in a way that fleece boxes (where the wool is contained) and the Victory Monument are completely (or almost) free of traps or mobs.
The easiest (or maybe the only, from your progress' point of view) way to access it is to use the small cave entrance under the tree hill you were on earlier. It is facing the lava ocean:
See those webs? You'll need to dig through them, so you probably should craft a sword with the wood you just obtained. It should last all the way through them...
You'll then arrive at a railroad, connecting multiple rooms together behind glass. Just follow it all the way down into the Arcane Ruins, one of the many areas in the map. Just skip the three chests for now, I'll explain later what they are (or feel free to look inside them yourself, it's your save).
Let me introduce you to this place where you should probably establish a permanent base. Walking towards the other side of the wide lapis lazuli room (you can probably use this as a tree/wheat farm), you'll see the Victory Monument in the room at the left. If you're familiar with Super Hostile maps, you should know it's purpose (visit the original Super Hostile thread by clicking the link all the way up this page). Continuing on, you'll arrive at a three-way intersection.
You better continue going forward. This empty room is designed to help you make necessities for your base, probably your storage room. Super Hostile maps are known for having tons and tons of treasure chests all over the map, it WILL need to be really big. Behind the piston door at your right (as it is written, it is not a trap!) you'll see a small storage area, with lots of resources to help you get started with.
There's some sapplings to make a farm (you have yet to obtain dirt, though), some beds, a bit of rails to move around the map, and even some nether warts so you can eventually make potions on your own.
Now go back to the intersection and head the other way. Have your sword ready, there may be a few mobs. At your left, switch the lever tagged by "Lumin'hai". It will make a nice effect of lighting up the room gradually. There's also some mushrooms at the corner of the room you can let spread or make giant mushrooms for soup.
Continuing on, you will have a little station in which you can access two more areas in the map. It's not necessary to go there now, so I won't explain it. In the chest there's some extra rails and minecarts and a few building blocks you should probably leave there for later expedition. So that's about it for the Arcane Ruins, now that it is safe for you to make your base, go on and do whatever you'd like in it. Also don't forget to check the chests back at the other station, which has a Potions - Medium and a Zistonian Battlesign - Level 2, which can actually light mobs on fire now. There's also a chest with extra minecarts, some cookies you can use to replenish your hunger bar (food will be a very difficult aspect in this map) and an extra bed too.
You still need to gather resources before heading into the dungeons, though. Which will be the next topic.
Resource Farming
First things first. Get some cobblestone, make some tools, and prepare to go get dirt. Start by heading back up the rail. About half way up you will see this cave behind some glass at your left:
Simply go on into the cave, kill the few mobs if there is some, and at the other end, there's a large patch of dirt. Careful, though, it's right under the sea of lava. Make sure you plug any holes so you don't drown (if you don't burn up first ). Gather about a stack, then head back out towards the rail.
Right across it, you'll see that there is another path. Go into it, it's a pre-made coal mine! The "vein" is basicly big enough to last quite a while, probably the entire map. If you ever run out for some reason (if you died too much, or put too much torches, or whatever), there's some other veins that I will mention further into this walkthrough.
For now, just in case you die, return to your base and start building your tree farm; you're going to need it soon enough. Take this as a model, it's the most compact way:
The last thing to do is to find as much food in treasure chests before you head off into dungeons. Go into the second train station, which was in that big wide room. Follow the rail that turns right. See that glass panel with a lavafall behind it? There's a small lava river that reaches a Medium Stone Tools and Food chest, which will be extremely useful through dungeon #01! On your way back, make sure you don't fall into lava!
Finally, we're going to get a bit more. Go back up the first rail and into the cave that looks like this:
Toggle the gravel trap thingy, and head to the other side of the room without falling into one of the holes (not that it's dangerous, it's just annoying. Fun fact: if you look into one of them you can see the gravel slowly falling through the cobwebs!) In the Low Armor & Weapons chest you will find some extremely useful stuff against... the ghasts of dungeon #01.
If you explore the room more carefully, you will see another passage, which forks in two directions. At your left, there's a large cave system with all the coal, dirt, and... as much webs you will ever want. There's also a Low Stone Tools and Food chest further in, and a "rabbit hole entrance" that goes back to the surface, right near spawn. If you go into the other passage, you'll find another annoying same cave, and also a room which seems contained the first ever Victory Monument on this map. There's also anotherLow Stone Tools and Food chest.
Now that you have way more than enough food and tools to last you a while, collect about two or three stacks of cobble from wherever you'd like, and head back to your base. Prepare to head into Dungeon #01 - Spire Caves!
Dungeon #01 - Spire Caves (White Wool )
Alright, so before we head towards your almost certain death, make sure you cut down your trees if they grew (don't forget to replant them!), and I recommend you take this stuff with you:
Try to keep a similar inventory for every dungeon you encounter. I also recommend you sleep in your bed, so your spawn is reset in your base. Wait for night if you have too, it will give you chance to do a bit of farming if you got some bone meal. Alright, we're all set!
Head out back onto the main land after going up the rail. At your left when exiting the cave, you should see those tall obsidian obelisks. That area is called the Oblivion Spires, where the name of the dungeons comes from. Make a secure bridge across, and head at the opposite side of the first "spire". You should see the cave, which is the entrance to the Dungeon #01 - Spire Caves! You made it! Be prepared to die.
I have to warn you though, I consider this one of the hardest dungeons of the map. First of all, the cave is MADE of obsidian. There's also creeper spawners at the entrance, even with a wall of glass with lava behind it. Further in, quickly enough, the floor will be made of zombies and creepers, and the walls made of ghasts.
Hop right in, literally (seriously, make a solid staircase). When you get at the bottom, you'll see this sandstone thingy, probably surrounded by creepers if you weren't fast enough. You have 3 options:
If there's no creepers around, just try to destroy the spawner as quickly as possible (lighting up every single block is kinda hard with the darker lighting caused by the obsidian).
If there are creepers, simply try to sprint-knock them into the spawner, trying to make them blow it up on themselves. Dangerous, but fast and effective.
If it's too hard, or you simply don't want to take any risks, build a well-lit tunnel of cobblestone towards the spawner. Destroy it, and remember to take your cobble, you're going to need it.
Alright, so that's that. You see the cave loops downwards into a dark and scary tunnel, and you probably hear ghasts and zombies all over the place. First off, get down on the ledge. Build a barrier as quickly as possible, while deflecting ghast shots. If they ever get across you, the window will break and let lava in onto you.
Was that too easy? If not, go right on, you're in for a surprise. If it was too hard, I recommend you try to do another dungeon. Again, if you decide to continue, you have 2 options:
Direct assault. This is extremely risky, and I admit I've tried this and died loads of times. The trick is to get to the left of the obsidian pillar in the middle of the room to avoid ghast fireballs. Destroy the spawners at the left of the room, and make sure you don't die from creepers and zombies! Make yourself a room with the help of the cobble, and slowly build towards the middle of the room to destroy the remaining spawners. Finally kill those ghasts, and destroy their spawners. You did it, kill remaining mobs, and make sure it's well lit, since the creeper spawner above can still spawn mobs down here.
Passive assault. This way is almost always successful, but you're going to use up a lot of resources. Basically just build your way around the room, destroy the spawners, shoot ghasts, make sure everything is well-lit. That's about it!
If none of these seems to work for you, you can try out Binba442's suggestion.
Now, you can actually go in that fleece box and claim the White Wool! Congratulations!
Dungeon #02 - Spire Depths (Orange Wool )
I presume you've went back to the base to deposit the wool you gathered. Remember, don't take all the wool from the chest, just in case you fall in lava! So, you've freshened up your items, it's time to head into Dungeon #02 - Spire Depths. The entrance is the hole located next to the white wool fleece box.
After you made the spiral staircase to reach down (NEVER just jump into a hole like this one), you'll reach a glass-sealed cave. This part is fairly easy, you just need to light up the upper path made of coal with torches all the way to the end (until you reach the bedrock box thing, don't go there yet). Afterwards, light up the bottom of the tunnel back to the entrance.
First off, you might want to go away a bit after activating the spawners so you let the mobs despawn. Afterwards, go back into the tunnel and stop here:
This part is a bit tricky. The easiest way would be to dig around at the back of each spawner, light them up, and kill the remaining zombies. Be my guest if you want to jump right in instead.
You'll find there a Low Armor & Weapons and some signs which refer to Joe Hills:
Is everything horrible? Do you immediately regret this? Are you not allowed to have nice things? Do you play from Nashville when you play Minecraft? Then your name just might be Joe Hills. Small kindness --->
In the chest down below (make a way back up, a zombie might jump on you), you'll find a small rail set, some glowstone, glass, and something that will help you a LOT... a [miniature] farming set! Before you continue on through Spire Depths, I recommend you go back to the Victory Monument and start farming before you loose it or run out of food.
Alright, last thing you need to do is go get the wool. It's located behind the bedrock box at the end of the tunnel. So you have the two basic options to invade this area:
Tunnel around the cave and try get the wool, destroy the spawners, and light up as much space as possible. Watch for spiders.
Slow, steady, and safe is the second option. Just light up the top coal path and the top of the bedrock box too. Kill any mobs, obviously, and watch out for the skeleton spawners at your left, they might just make you fall into the terrible things below. So that's your next goal. Destroy them, then you only need to kill the remaining mobs below, using your bow. If you did everything correctly, you should only have a few remaining spiders and their spawners. Should be easy enough, light up the box from the sides. That's about it!
Before you take the wool, there's a few chests you might want to take at the right of the fleece box: Enchanted Leather Armor, always in need of some, Potions - Medium, excellent, and an awesome tool part of a whole series of items, Ragefell, the Clearcutter. This can break almost instantly any wooden blocks, and makes a perfect weapon against any mob. Almost always a one-hit kill!
Alright, you earned it. Take the Orange Wool and head back to the Victory Monument. Remember what I said before about taking the wool... one at a time, please! Don't fail yet!
Treasure Hunting
So, you've managed to complete the first two dungeons. Congratulations! I think it's time you replenish your resources, you must have used quite a bit. There's a few chests we missed on the main island, so it's time to go get them.
The first one is located right in front of you when you exit the cave back onto Classic Island. Make sure your going there during the night, there's a few blazes spawners and a skeleton spawner is hiding where other chest is placed. But let's focuse on this one. You can do the parkour jumps or just bridge to the chest.
If you don't think the Potions - Low chest is worth a lot, look on the back side of the island you're on. Behind that blaze spawner (I recommend you keep it for a blaze farm later on, so light up the area), there's another chest with three birch tree saplings. I know, it's not very generous. Let's move on...
On your way back to the main island, there's a piece of cobble at your right, hiding a chest filled with... chests? Also, above you there's a small room with cobwebs (if you were ever out at night you might have noticed skeletons spawning around there, so watch for spawners). You'll find nothing but a series of signs, referring to the LPer ZombieCleo:
Just for you, Cleo: TWANG! WHAT THE-? HEEBY JAH?! HUH? HUH?! HEH, NEH!!! < Shout out to ZombieCleo.
That's it for this side of the island. On your way to the volcanoes, you might want to read the signs around the island if you didn't already. Including signs that says Vechs likes tacos, which I will be eating tonight. If you care to know. I know you don't.
Again, while going to the other side of the volcano, make sure it's day, there's a blaze spawner hidden underneath the surface. Make sure you don't fall into lava. Bridge to the other volcano, and go directly to the top. Right under that glowstone, there's a Low Stone Tools and Food chest. Now, go inside the volcano using the path you just saw.
Don't go too close to the mossy bridge, there's a ghast spawner near there. If you look down in the middle column, you should see a Medium Armor & Weapons chest, which is the best chest evar until now. There's so specific way to get in there, you can either make gravel/sand fall over it to remove the lava, or you can just dig around and under the pool of lava.
You can also use a fire resistance potion if you have one, as Pieluvr suggested.
Finally, on the other side of the room, you can see a staircase that goes waayyyy down. That's the entrance to dungeon #03 and dungeon #04. There's also a workbench, furnace, and a Railway Kit & Building Blocks chest. Head back to the Victory Monument, and prepare to invade these dungeons.
Dungeon #03 - Halls of Flame North (Magenta Wool)
This dungeon is kinda easy, and it should be the one you should start off with, but there's some complications, though. I won't go through them in this guide, only how to conquer this dungeon.
Anyways, remember to get fresh new items, food, and armor, and head back to where we last let off in the previous entry (Treasure Hunting). Both passages are identified, go in the one that's marked "Dungeon 3...". You'll immediately have a cross-path, at your right, there's lots of netherrack for you to collect, and behind one of them there's a Potions - High chest. Wow!
Going back to the intersection, at your left, there's a bunch of dark rooms filled with chests and bookshelves for you to use for your enchantment table. In the chests, there's a wide range of items including:
Now that's generous! But watch out, in the room with the sugar cane chest, there's a hidden creeper spawner.
Finally, go down the last path at the intersection. You see that glass above you when walking down the staircase, with fire behind? There's a Low Stone Tools & Food chest in there. Finally, in the big room, there's 12 furnaces, each filled with a WHOLE stack of coal! (I know, I should have told you beforehand)
Now the real challenge begins. Remember to store any important items safely, then head through that dark hallway, which ends up going down another staircase. However, there's a few connecting rooms you should explore first.
In the lit room, there's a Potions - Medium chest, and a zombie spawner. Watch out. In the first dark room, nothing but bookshelves and another hidden zombie spawner. Moving on to the last room, I warned you, there's one zombie spawner and one creeper spawner. There's also another Railway Kit & Building Blocks chest in there.
Finally, make sure you are all prepared, because you might die. Go down the staircase. I'm sure you see the fleece box, but don't even THINK about running towards it. The 18 spider spawners and 6 skeleton spawners won't give you any chances to survive. You heard me right.
There's two options again, but I recommend you try to do both at the same time if you can to reduce your chances of dying.
Diggin' around the room is fine, but Vechs forces you to get in the spawning area of the spider if you do so. It's ok, as long as your in a two-block deep trench in which spiders can't fall in, and don't jump. Try to light up the room, don't destroy the spawners if you want a high-capacity string farm. Just dig around the room all the way up to the fleece box.
Fill up the holes and spider spawning rooms. In fact, this is possible, with patience, but it's risky. You can try to fill them up (try 444timothy's suggestion) and prevent spiders from getting to you, and if they do, retreat far enough up the stairs so the spawners stop spawning. If you do it correctly, you should only have the skeletons to worry about (reference).
You did it! You can light up the skeleton room too, fill up the remaining holes, and get the Magenta Wool. Congrats again!
Dungeon #04 - Halls of Flame South (Light Blue Wool )
It's the last time I'll say it, remember to get back to your base to reset your inventory and deposit the wool on the victory monument, in case you die. Afterwards, head back to the entrance of dungeon #03, but go in the opposite direction.
After going down the long staircase, you should be able to see a grave. At your left, there's a Potions - Low chest. And before you go conquering the dungeon, dig up the grave, there's two chests in there, both having another super-powered item like the one you got in dungeon #02!
They are: Wildfire, Center of Chaos, which is a diamond sword that has Fire Aspect II and Knockback II. There's also Rockbane, The Mountain's Foe, which is a diamond pickaxe which instantly destroys any block, lasts almost forever, and you get multiple drops per block. Amazing!
Now on to that big field of towers. There's a lot of strategies to invade this dungeon, and since this map is so large I'm going to be using a map to explain them to you, visual-style.
This is the map of the area, it also indicates the chest locations in blue. The red squares represent the pillars in the room, and the orange square in the middle is the fleece's box location. Watch out, those darker spots near it are ghast spawning areas.
One strategy would be to light up the exterior edges first, then move on one closer, in a spiral pattern. Afterwards, you only have the ghast spawners to take care of. The disadvantage is that the ghasts can destroy your torches, but it's not too bad.
Another strategy would be to head straight towards the middle, get in the fleece box, and seal the hole before any mobs can get inside. Then dig through the other side and run away from there! The disadvantage is that you won't be able to get the other chests until later.
Based on kingkaider's suggestion, you can also try to drop tnt onto the ghast spawners from the railway, which can be accessed from the Victory Monument's second rail station. Just make sure you don't blow up the fleece box!
There's a few other strategies, if you really want to show them, post them below and I'll link them here. Anyways, congratulations on getting the Light Blue Wool!
Exploring Oblivion Spires
Now that you got Dungeons #1 to #4 cleared, I think it's time to get more resources, and start getting familiar with the area we're going to hang around soon.
Head to Oblivion Spires again, pass by the Spire Caves, and continue to go straight until you get to the lava sea. Behind the farthest away spire, there's a Low Armor & Weapons chest, if you absolutely want it.
Continuing on across the zone, you'll see the entrance to Dungeon #05 - Don't Blow It, just so you know where it is. Further, you'll have to bridge across a bit of lava. Before you head to the mossy structure, at your right, you should be able to see glowstone in the ground that covers another Low Armor & Weapons chest, much easier to obtain than the previous one. Oh, by the way, that mossy structure is the entrance to the Lost Caves, which contains a few more dungeons.
So that was a small trip, there's nothing else for you to get in this zone! So let's move on into the Lost Caves. There's a few more interesting resources you might want to get in there.
There's not much at the entrance, there's a few leaves, mushrooms, and sugar canes if you want to make more bookshelves. Watch for creepers also. But wait, there's WATER! Finally, you have it! You should put it to use right after we're done here.
At the intersection, look above you, there's a hole with a Low Stone Tools & Food chest. At your right, you'll have your chance to get a few more seeds, and also the entrance to Dungeon #09 - Vrinstar. At your left, there's the entrance to Dungeon #10 - Oreflare, and if you look more carefully, there's also a Low Armor & Weapons chest.
Alright, so go back to the Victory Monument, and prepare to invade Dungeon #05 - Don't Blow It!
Dungeon #05 - Don't Blow It! (Yellow Wool )
Alright, time to head back down into a dungeon! In case you forgot where this one is, look at this screenshot. Notice the Classic Island in the background:
Heading down that ladder, you'll have your little safe spot. I recommend removing the gravel and making a door so you don't just have to block it off each time you want to protect yourself. Now this is a little tricky. You'll have a miniature maze to conquer.
The walls are only one-block thick and surrounded by lava, and the place is FULL of creeper spawners. You should be ok if they don't blow up, and if they do, make sure they're as low as possible, so the lava doesn't come through the ceiling. From the walls, not a big deal.
I also recommend using the following technique: concentrate on one hallway at a time, and block off the ones you aren't exploring so the creepers don't blow up in your back. Also, make sure the place is fully lit.
Using Pieluvr's technique would also be helpful, depending on your situation.
If you want the exact location of the wool, from the entrance, go straight, turn at the last right, turn left, then right again. That's it! When you get in the fleece box, seal the hole you came in, just in case a creeper finds his way in there. That would be really bad.
Grab the Yellow Wool and get out of there! Smallest dungeon ever, right? Sadly, there's no chests, nor resources to get in there.
Dungeon #06 - Citadel Courtyard (Lime Wool )
Yep, this is going to be a pretty hard dungeon. It's located in the Rageshadow Citadel, which can be accessed from the mossy cobble path in the volcano. It contains 3 different wools, but let's focus on the lime one. There's enough spawners in there to make you lag. The location of the fleece box is just on the other side of the large middle tower, at the courtyard level.
Make yourself a starting room on the platform at the entrance. Make also a tunnel that connects to the entrance itself. Don't go through the main entrance, there's no way you'll be able to pass. You'll need to get on the highest pass, which connects the top of the four smaller towers. To get there, go on the mid-high pass, go in a tower, then build a staircase to the top.
DESTROY ANY SPAWNERS YOU SEE, AND LIGHT UP AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. You don't want to risk any ghasts or blazes spawning yet. Make sure the bedrock boxes are completely surrounded with light, and before you head down on the lower level, climb on the top of the middle tower: there's five ghasts spawners, but also a diamond sword with sharpness IV! Go on the courtyard level afterwards.
This time, it's a bit safer to go through the main entrance, but remember to block off those holes on the side for maximum chances of surviving. Light up as much as you can of those obsidian boxes, and go on the upper pass if you have to. You can even use Rockbane, which you got in Dungeon #04, to break into them (reference). Also, you can blow the inside of them with TNT. Then, make your way to the back of the citadel.
Now this shouldn't be difficult, since there's only two spider spawners. You know what to do. Tunnel if you have to. Conquer, take the Lime Wool, and go prepare, we're going in that big tower.
Dungeon #07 - Upper Rageshadow (Pink Wool )
This dungeon is a bit tricky, but isn't as hard as the previous one. The dungeon's location is the middle tower, which can be entered from any side, from the courtyard level or the mid-high pass level. The first two floors each have 9 rooms in a square, and for each floor one room has a staircase to get to the upper level. Easy enough?
On the third floor, there's a hallway that goes all the way around the tower, with a few obstacles. Notice that the ceiling is high, that's because there's creeper spawners near the ceiling. Watch your head.
At the end of the hallway, there's a staircase that goes to the top of the tower. The whole room is made of obsidian, and again, you'd expect that it's the same annoying creeper spawners. Try to get to the top as quickly as possible, and light up everything you can.
Take the Pink Wool and get out of there. I don't think you'd want to dig through the obsidian to get to the spawners, so I recommend you just forget them and seal the tower on your way out. Watch for creepers that spawned while you were inside. Congratulations!
Dungeon #08 - Rageshadow Depths (Grey Wool )
This is probably the most difficult dungeon in the map, so I recommend you do this one last, unless you really want to do it in numerical order, or if you really want iron (yes, there's some in here!).
This is a cave system, and the entrance is located in front of the dungeon #06's wool location. There's this really long staircase that goes into the depths of the citadel. Watch out, there's often "fun boxes" located in the most obvious places (see the General Techniques to view what they are). Of course, there must be one above the first staircase. I would recommend to keep only one of these for a mob farm, and destroy all the rest.
These two chest are Potions - Low and Zistonian Battlesign - Level 4 (I know, we skipped one, but who cares? This one is much better). It can actually replace your sword, even the diamond one! It's going to be extremely helpful in what's waiting for you around the corner... There's also another super-powered item, Dawnbringer, Paladin's Blade. It's not the most useful sword, but whatever.
Before going further, I have to warn you: fun boxes are EVERYWHERE. They're buried in the ground, but the massive spawn rate of the mobs make them easy to locate. You can light up and preserve the first one for a mob farm, but destroy any other you see.
Let me orient you. At your left, behind that "pillar" there's a Low Stone Tools & Food chest. Presuming you're still at the entrance, straight ahead there's a Low Armor & Weapons chest along with some mossy cobblestone and... some IRON! Better take some and go make some armor...
Finally, at the rightmost of the cave, again within a mossy cobble barrier, there's the Gray Wool. Just be careful, there's a lot of fun boxes around it. Afterwards, there's nothing left for you in here except that iron. And if you thought of it, you also got the Iron Block for the Victory Monument!
Dungeon #09 - Vrinstar (Light Grey Wool )
This dungeon will make you think you left the Sea of Flame grounds. There's also a bunch of new resources. When you enter, you're going to have a "forest" of all sort of different plants: sugar canes, trees, pumpkin, cacti, tall grass... There's even some clay and jack o' lanterns!
There's a lot of fun boxes in this dungeon, I recommend you just light up all the dark spots, which is most of the time a fun box spawning area. Afterwards, destroy them, unless you want to keep them, of course.
When you enter, you're going to be in the middle of a small, vertical chamber, with a weird tree growing through it. Watch out, though, there's a hidden fun box in that dark spot at your left, and also another one at the top.
All the way at the bottom, behind the tree, there's a Low Stone Tools & Food chest hidden. As kingkaider suggested, try using the tree to move between levels. At the level above where you entered, there's another room with mossy cobble. Watch for the fun box on the small ledge inside. Take the Medium Armor & Weapons too, obviously.
Finally, at the top level, there's the fleece box which contains the Light Gray Wool. Was that easy or hard? Got any suggestions for this dungeon? I'll add them here!
Dungeon #10 - Oreflare (Cyan Wool )
This dungeon is kinda straightforward, since it's just a single path all the way to the fleece box. When you arrive at the only fork, the right way is literally the right path, but the left one goes on for... 30 blocks before you arrive at a mossy cobblestone structure. No tricks, no traps, just a Medium Stone Tools & Food chest.
I might as well make this interesting: if you dig straight down in front of the chest, after about 10 blocks you'll be right in front of the dungeon entrance. Now on to the other path. After going down and following the path, you'll see the Cyan Wool fleece box right there. Just watch your head, though, there's a fun box in the square stone on the ceiling. Now that's about it for this dungeon!
And did I tell you, you now have access to redstone? Just in case you didn't notice.
Dungeon #11 - The Rotten Caves (Purple Wool )
Now things are going to get interesting. You remember where that second rail station was, in the Arcane Ruins? You should be able to see the hole in the wall further on, that's where Dungeon #11 - The Rotten Caves is located.
When you enter, you're going to be in this swamp-like tunnel, with some soulsand and a little bit of iron on the ceiling. You see those two columns in the middle with water behind them? You better light up around them, since there's a dozen of zombie spawners buried there. It should be easy enough to conquer with a bow and a sword, but if you can't, just tunnel around to light up the area.
I personally like this dungeon, it's actually my favorite in this map. That previous screenshot is what I like most. Anyways, this area is pretty much just a small underground lake with clay, soulsand, stone columns, coal, iron, mushrooms, and zombie spawners all around. There's no point of exploring further unless you want some soulsand, so just go in that hole in the middle of the lake (it's lit up).
It's an underwater tunnel, so I recommend bringing a door, sign, or ladder so you can breathe. Also watch out for the spawning zombies on the sides. Go straight down to get to the fleece box. Get the Purple Wool and make your way back to the start. Congratulations, now on to the last few dungeons of the map!
The Giant Piggy
You probably saw it, the giant piggy temple (recreation of LPer Zisteau's). It can be accessed from the second rail station in the Arcane Ruins (use the lever selector). There's just a couple of things we need to do there before we go back to dungeons.
Alright, so there's nothing dangerous here, maybe a few mobs if you're doing this during night. Don't worry about the spawning zombie pigmen, and don't go in the portal yet: it's the final dungeon. Further on, you'll have the entrances to two dungeons we'll do shortly.
Everything we need is on top of the pig. On his head, there's a Zistonian Space Program chest, with a bunch of Knockback X signs. You know what that means...
On the back of the pig's head, there's a room with a couple more chests (I warned you, there's zombie pigmen spawners in there... don't get suprised ). They are: Medium Armor & Weapons and Medium Stone Tools & Food. Now on to the last five dungeons of the map.
This is the kind of dungeon you'd just want to tunnel around. This is the kind of dungeon you won't have the patience for. This is the kind of dungeon you'd say "I'm too lazy to do it the right way." Well, you probably will, too. I'd be impressed if you didn't.
Anyways, the entrance is located behind the giant piggy, down into the dormitory. I recommend you set up a checkpoint here. In one of the room, you'll see the entrance of the dungeon itself. The dungeon is made up of stretched, claustrophobic tunnels with spider spawners surrounded by gravel all over.
If you really don't want to tunnel, you can build trenches that spiders can't fall in, but watch for other mobs that spawn normally in the darkness. Also, a quick tip, DON'T toggle the gravel, it will only make the spawners worse, since the spiders won't be contained horizontally anymore. As kingkaider suggested, you can use systematic lava buckets to light up the area.
Again, this is straightforward, follow the tunnels until you reached this area (in the screenshot above). You'll see that there is a Enchanted Leather Armor chest right in front of you, and a Death Sentence, a super-powered bow which lasts forever, can instantly kill any mobs, and can also be used as a "sword" to knockback enemies.
Continuing on, you'll finally arrive at the fleece box, guarded by two more sets of spider spawners. Take the Blue Wool and forget about this nightmare.
Dungeon #13 - Vault of Relics (Brown Wool )
You're just coming back from a nightmare, and now Vechs wants to joke around with you. This dungeon is located on the opposite site of the temple from "your nightmare".
If you go at the other end, you'll find a fleece box that contains a chest with... a stick. The wool is actually contained in one of those chests. Yay. Don't forget the Zistonian Battlesign - Level 3 that we missed earlier. Not really useful right now, but anyways.
I'll leave the wool hunting for you. Click the spoiler to see its location.
The Brown Wool is located on the fleece box end of the room, on the right, top row, third from the left. Don't forget to have fun with all the signs and pants!
The Molten Depths
This area can almost be considered its own dungeon, because of the traps and difficulty. It can be accessed from the second rail station in the Arcane Ruins. At the end of the rail, you'll be in the middle of a large cave, with a piston door at your left.
There isn't much in this cave, you can easily light it up (watch for slimes afterwards), take some coal, and take the Low Armor & Weapons chest hidden in a corner (it's lit up). Then head into the piston door to move further. Watch for lava holes in the ground.
In the next room, is where the real challenge is. You're going to be in a room similar to this one, but further on there's a vertical lava fall with a lava lake at the bottom. That's not what we're worried about though, it's the large dark room around the corner, filled with all sorts of spawners, lava holes, and other monsters. And did I tell you there's also a proximity bomb in the wall right next to you?
Alright, go up that lavafall (you know what I mean), there's a Low Armor & Weapons chest and a Low Stone Tools & Food chest you can take up there. Also, a quick fun fact: if you have a fire resistance potion, you can swim up the rest of the lava, you're going to end up somewhere in the Sea of Flame, with the Oblivion Spires barely distinguishable in the distance. Can you make it?
Moving on, conquer the rest of the caves, watch for spawners, mobs, lava, and whatever else you most probably will encounter in a cave. Happy surviving!
Dungeon #14 - Dance Above The Flame (Green Wool )
It's located in the Molten Depths, where that lavafall is. The entrance is framed by glass columns. Check out this screenshot:
It's really obvious what you need to do here, just build accross the room and the gaps within the walls to arrive at the fleece box, without getting hit by a ghast's fireball. The trick is to build tunnels with cobblestone and not just build accross to protect yourself from fireball complications. You can also hug the bedrock walls to save resources, as countpancake and kingkaider both suggested.
Another suggestion, from what killfish11 said, is to use water buckets to get across. This is the easiest solution, but it's kinda considered cheating.
That's about it that I can help you with. I can tell you it can require a lot of patience to get to the wool, and remember to sneak! If you need further help, watch the video. Get the Green Wool and go finish off the Victory Monument!
Dungeon #15 - The Battle For The Molten Depths (Red Wool )
You're almost at the end, but you still have a long way to go, in a sense. This dungeon is slightly larger than the ones you previously encountered, and expect it to be also a bit harder.
The dungeon is located at the other end of the Molten Depths, I'm sure you saw it, with the entrance framed by mossy cobblestone this time. Pass through the first piston door, and you'll see a pre-made base with a High Armor & Weapons chest. You might want to use the iron gathered from previous dungeons to make armor, though.
Passing through the second door to enter the first room, you'll be in a netherrack chamber that looks like a battlefield. The use for the arrow dispensers aren't that great, you're better off taking them and using your bow instead. You won't be running out of arrows any time soon, anyways.
Don't expect to be able to just run through the battlefield, you need to develop a technique to get accross. And that is... tunneling. Since the walls are made of bedrock, you'll have to build one. Make sure you watch for the skeleton spawners and the zombies triggering the TNT.
Further on, you'll have another tunnel with creeper spawners, sandstone obstacles, and TNT traps. There's also a few skeleton/spider spawners too. Disarm the TNT, secure the area behind you, and fight off the creepers and light up the tunnel. It shouldn't be that hard. Make sure you disarm the TNT too.
At the end, you should be able to see the fleece box and a Low Stone Tools & Food chest at your right. This area can be a bit tricky, so listen carefully.
Your goal is simple: build across to the fleece box. But Vechs didn't make it easy for you, there's ghast spawners on the sides, and 8 skeleton spawners on a spawning pad above your goal. The solution is also simple: build a tunnel, and not just a bridge. Killfish11's mini-guide is worth checking out for this.
Anyways, make sure you're safe on your way back, and go place the Red Wool onto the Victory Monument. Now, on to the final challenge.
Dungeon #16 - A Snowball's Chance... (Black Wool )
The gate to the final dungeon...
Alright, this is going to be intense. The terrain is simple enough, it's the type you find in the nether, with the following modifications:
Netherrack, Soulsand, Gravel --> Snow Lava --> Ice Y100+ glowstone --> Diamond Ore Y40- glowstone --> Gold Blocks Glowstone --> Glowstone Plus other minor modifications
There's nothing dangerous here, except falling from dangerous heights, and near the fleece box. This dungeon is even beneficial, there's a few random nether wart farms all over, and enough gold and diamonds to last you for a long while. That means you got your Gold Block and Diamond Block for the Victory Monument!
If you head straight out from the Dungeon identification sign side of the entrance room, you should see the fleece box in the distance. Bridge with guardrails up to about 30 blocks from the fleece box, then start adding walls, or at least a roof: blazes, ghasts, and skeleton spawners will start to annoy you!
Building up from the techniques you acquired through the map, I think you can easily figure out how to get in there. Take the Black Wool and make your way out to victory.
Assuming you already completed all the previous dungeons, a big congratulations, you completed the first CTM map! Woohoo!

I will, I was just busy with another map. I'm also trying to finish it, and I'm experimenting with technique. Should be updated some times this weekend (and this is no typical excuse! )
Anyways, nice to see someone looks forward to it getting complete. Thanks!

I finished super hostile sea of flames II without your help.I was waiting for a week and you didn't update it.I really like your guide though. Please tell me if I hurt your feelings.
I know you have your map but do you think you can add like the first wool or the second one?

Introduction
Welcome to the Infernal Sky II, a beautiful but hazardous and dangerous place to explore and conquer, where you will discover lots of secrets about surviving.
Before we start, a little bit of background. This is actually a remake of the original map, which wasn't a CTM genre: it was simply a survival map. Vechs didn't add the victory monument until SH4 - Kaizo Caverns; he then created entirely new maps to replace the previous ones and to include the VM.
Alright then, let's start this. You will spawn on a large sandstone platform at position x105, y67, z-136. You are able to read the rules and get the Starter Chest and Zistonian Battlesign - Level 1.
Arm your sign, pull up your pants, but don't use anything else, you'll need them soon enough.
First off, you'll need to climb up the mountain at the left of the screenshot. This is the most straightforward way to reach the tree in the distance. At the top, you'll be able to get across by making snowblocks from the snowballs. (There's also another way to get to the tree, which you may find more efficient, just go straight ahead in the previous screenshot and cross the chasm near the VM.
Presuming you went across from the mountain, just walk towards the big pillar that supports the tree. Climb your way up by gathering the glowstone. At the top, break down as much of the tree as you can; ignore the logs that fall down the cliff if there isn't that many.
Make your usual tools, replant the tree, and arm yourself with the Zistonian Battlesign - Level 2.
You can gather some more glowstone for lighting the area around you in preparation for the night, and get the few coal ores on the pillar. You can either start working on a little shelter if it's getting late, or bridge to the VM right beside you.
You can get some Potions - Medium and keep the Hillian Monument Supply Chest there in case you need to repair your monument post-creeper. Oh, you should definitively light up the back of the VM, it's a bit dark back there... One final thing before you head into your shelter for the night: build a chicken pen! Let them grow until morning comes. Here's an example:
That's everything you'll need for this day, you can go do some mining until you wait for the sunrise.
I suggest on the First dungeon of SOFII you break the glass with the lava, and try to make it spill to light up some of the dungeon (and Burn the mobs)
Yes, but this makes it difficult to access the coal afterwards. I'm making this guide in a way that no resources are wasted. Also, the lava can't reach all the way to the other side, ghasts can still spawn and shoot you into lava :/
But thanks for the tip, I'll think it through.
I suggest on the First dungeon of SOFII you break the glass with the lava, and try to make it spill to light up some of the dungeon (and Burn the mobs)
I just ran berserk and put torches everywhere and let the creepers destroy the spawners for me by exploding. But I suggest doing that dungeon the until you have diamond armor.
I recommend doing dungeon 1 after getting diamond or a enchanted sword with at least sharpness 2.You do not have to do it in order.
Every bloody CTM map series boasts that it's bigger, longer, and harder than other CTM series. It's almost as if it's a **** measuring contest. (bigger, longer, harder...)
I recommend you wearing some enchanted leather armor with at least blast protection 1. Expect to die at least once . Be sure to bring at least 2 stacks of non flammable blocks as you be making bridges over the lava. Destroy the ceiling block in the middle of the lanes every few block.

Good suggestion, I'll add it in the guide when I get there.

A very big secret: If you have a fire resistance potion, Jump into the crater of lava in the volcano. Continue going down until you see a chest.
In the small volcano go down into the volcano , I recommend getting 2 potions first, jump down into the small volcano until you reach the bottom. You should see a hole leading to coal. BAM! A seemingly endless supply of coal. ( I got about 3 stacks before I left)

For the first volcano, I think I already posted about that chest in "Treasure Hunting". For the second one, it's the same vein as the one found in the cave system, so it's not really necessary to go down there. But it's a nice tip, using fire resistance potions. I'll add that.
All of the secrets I know:
At the cathedral of suidae, there is a Zistonian space program which has signs with level 10 knockback and behind the piggy's head are 2 chest containing weapons, tools, food and etc. There are Lso some hidden pigmen spawners.
Brown wool: This is the most difficult wool in the game.( winks*)
The railway to the victory monument has rooms containing coal and some little treasures( not ores or diamonds )

If not, upload a screenshot so I can see.
Also, the brown wool is considered Vechs' "joke wool", which can be too easy, strange, confusing, or really hard.

Introduction

There's also another Low Stone Tools and Food chest.
Alright, so that's that. You see the cave loops downwards into a dark and scary tunnel, and you probably hear ghasts and zombies all over the place. First off, get down on the ledge. Build a barrier as quickly as possible, while deflecting ghast shots. If they ever get across you, the window will break and let lava in onto you.
Was that too easy? If not, go right on, you're in for a surprise. If it was too hard, I recommend you try to do another dungeon. Again, if you decide to continue, you have 2 options:
In the chest down below (make a way back up, a zombie might jump on you), you'll find a small rail set, some glowstone, glass, and something that will help you a LOT... a [miniature] farming set! Before you continue on through Spire Depths, I recommend you go back to the Victory Monument and start farming before you loose it or run out of food.
Alright, last thing you need to do is go get the wool. It's located behind the bedrock box at the end of the tunnel. So you have the two basic options to invade this area:
Dungeon #03 - Halls of Flame North (Magenta Wool )
Don't forget your netherrack mine.
Dungeon #12 - Shut. Up. Spiders! Augh! (Blue Wool )
Some other suggestions:
Dungeon #16 - A Snowball's Chance... (Black Wool )
The gate to the final dungeon...
Alright, this is going to be intense. The terrain is simple enough, it's the type you find in the nether, with the following modifications:
Netherrack, Soulsand, Gravel --> Snow
Lava --> Ice
Y100+ glowstone --> Diamond Ore
Y40- glowstone --> Gold Blocks
Glowstone --> Glowstone
Plus other minor modifications
Woohoo!
Remember to post screenshots/videos of your save in the Map Progress section!
This map has not yet been published, so there won't be any guide here.
Meanwhile, check out another guide.
Ok, sure, although it probably will be finished. Should be added within 8 hours, since I have school.
Map Overview
WARNING! This entry contains spoilers for the entire map, including secrets!
This section will not be available until most of the guide for this map is complete.
Up Next... Resource Farming
Yes, but this makes it difficult to access the coal afterwards. I'm making this guide in a way that no resources are wasted. Also, the lava can't reach all the way to the other side, ghasts can still spawn and shoot you into lava :/
But thanks for the tip, I'll think it through.
The guide for this map won't be worked on until previous ones are finished.
Help me on some grammatical errors. It does not sounds right. If u need help for making the guide for the spider dungeon,do not ask me.I chested to get to the wool.
Within the lavaUnder the lava in the glass tube
Remember to put any secrets/screenshots within spoiler tags.
I still think you're talking about this:
Also, the brown wool is considered Vechs' "joke wool", which can be too easy, strange, confusing, or really hard.
