Terribly sorry to Thadiwyn for saying I'd offer pointers on your map and then vanishing for a few weeks. AP exams caught up to me like nobody's business.
I'm not done with all the hairy bits of school yes, so I'm not going to pledge myself to any maps right away (though I'll still see what I can do about Doomsday and I'm waiting to hear back from Kerblahh), but I'd just like to throw out a mod suggestion to you all.
It's a set of mods that add additional mobs to the game, both dangerous and useful. I can personally vouch that the Special Mobs mod adds a refreshing dose of new mobbage to any map and I absolutely suggest it to anyone with a passion for CTM. I can't say for certain how well the utility mobs balance out against them or the maps, but I'm going to find out pretty soon here if I find the time. Unfortunately, you won't get the mobs to spawn from spawners, but that's about the only qualm I have.
Do give it a look, it's a wonderful mod that's not receiving the attention it deserves.
Special mobs is very different from what I would do in a mob buff mod, what I would do is much more complex:
- make slime splitting geometrically correct, and eat slimeballs or other slimes to grow. Slime size 10 would be 4x4, and split into 1024 tiny slimes. Luckily, it doesn't spawn naturally, and you can only get it by feeding it slime.
- add sword skeletons; they are capable of blocking and have dangerous reach, they have a delay before they attack, and anticipate your attacks to block, then strike.
- add chaotic blazes that fire homing blaze rods at you :3(rare)
- add rapid ghasts(rare)
- add ender knights(rare)
- add fallen heroes(rare uber zombie)
- add zombie proffesions, they usually don't matter
- add sandstone silverfish
How would people feel about me using a trap that has the potential to create a holy ****ton of lag? (As in system crippling levels of lag.)
I know recording especially is highly system intensive, and I don't want to ruin LP's, but at the same time it is a wonderful trap...
I've already created such a trap
I wouldn't recommend it. I used several clocks to change blocks states back and forth and wound up with a hemorrhaging computer. I since scraped it and tried to simplify the idea to another area. Same kind of problem arises. I'm not sure if you're intending to using clock circuits, but minecraft does not handle them that well.
But I also know that loads of half blocks, tnt, lava, water, pulsers, etc. can create problems as well. I don't know if I qualify as a "knowledgeable" source, but my favorite traps are some of the simplest. Less is more.

I too have just recently begun creating a CTM map (Yes ColdFusion, the fact you made one after Adventure Mapping has convinced me :P) called Septum Immoriel. At the moment I've only got three wools down, but if anyone would be interested in Beta testing/balance testing or is just interested in it in general, here's the forum thread, which will be updated as I work!
I'm considering reviewing some maps. I will have lots of time to spend when not playing on multiplayer (when my friends are not online). So if any of you guys want me to review a map just send me a link.
Whoa. I have not been playing Minecraft for a long time now (busy with projects and stuffs). So I'm coming back to Minecraft and I will continue making maps. Also, I just found a post on reddit about using MCEdit to edit what villagers trade, so an idea for a CTM map might be rescuing the villager and giving him a few diamonds for the wool
It's been a long time since I posted on CTM central, but I'm glad to announce Moon II. After 3 months of hard work, everything is finally complete! I love the look and feel of the map and I hope you enjoy it too!

Moon II is a big map. It features tons of different environments and is more difficult than any map I have ever released. To give you an idea of the amount of puzzles, traps, and secrets available, there are over 30,000 pieces of redstone. I don't think there is anything quite like this map.
I designed this map to follow the same look and feel of a video game. Anyone who has played games such as these:
Megaman
Doom
Super Mario RPG
Goldeneye
Halo
Bioshock
Zelda
Super Mario World
will love this map. There are plenty of subtle and obvious references to these games, along with many other non video game sources, that are laid throughout the map. Hell, many of the areas in Moon II were designed in mind to emulate these games.
In Moon II, the player is a test subject in the ATC training facility. While Smith (a administrator at ATC) contends the course is just a simulation to test skills and abilities, it seems the corporation has much bigger plans in mind.
I hope you all enjoy the map! Click here to go to Twisted Logic.
Any CTM mappers wanna play on a vanilla server? Myself and Timetoslide (of Deathly Trails fame) are playing on a new world, and need some more mappers to hang out with!
I'm going to go ahead and call it the Official CTM Central Server! That's right! In bold and everything.

We are all officially screwed now.

Message Timetoslide to ask to join if you are:
A ) a CTM Mapper (tell us your map thread)
B ) not a petulant child
C ) wanna build cool stuff!
Time wants to know what you plan to build too! Join us!
