I don't seem to be having any mobs spawn at all, do you?
EDIT: Yeah done a bit of testing and no matter what I do no mobs are spawn.
We (my husband and I are playing over LAN) have been able to get other mobs (a cow and some sheep) but no squid. We made sure our land was at level 64. I don't know if it really make a difference. I know I have spawned animals at level 59 in another game. Also you need to be at least 23 blocks away from your spawn point (the original island) for them to spawn at all.
PS. It took a long time before they spawned. Oh, and I don't know how much of a difference it made, but after we removed one side of the fence, with a gate, our spawns picked up.
I have seen no hostiles whatsoever, so not sure what is going on I tried making a mob farm and am getting no spawns.
Did you make sure you took out all the torches? What kind of spawner did you make? How far are you from the spawner? We made two different kinds of spawners for hostile mobs ( , and ). Both of these work well for us.
If anyone is looking for a nether fortress chunk in this map to farm blazes and withers the closest one is at -80,80 to -96, 96
I also found all the islands they are 1000 blocks out in every direction forom the spawn, 8 lands into. I am personally going to edit the map for msyelf and make them more in the range off 150-200 blocks before my actual playthrough as for me that is just obscene.
Edit: I have edited the map and moved all the Islands to 100 blocks away and set all them to there natice Biomes in a 6 chunk radius. Now I am happy.

Yeah they do spawn it just takes literally forever.
Squids spawn in water between layers 46 and sea level which is 63.
I finally got mobs spawning did not know about the range from spawn thing thanks for that.

I see that a lot of people think the islands are too far away. And yeah, thinking about it 1000 blocks may be a bit far. I'll see if I can find a way to make a patch or something so that progress will not be lost.
EDIT: Forgot who asked this, but making an enchantment table is possible!
1. You can make books out of leather and paper
2. You can get obsidian by mining the nether portal in the nether, putting the obsidian in the nether chest, dying to get back to the overworld, and then going back to the nether to respawn the nether portal
Just an idea for future maps. Ocean biome with a monument chunk. I would be really cool to be able to make a guardian farm. Even if you didn't include the monument, just being able to spawn squid a little easier would be nice. Still can't get the beasties to spawn in my game.
Unfortunately, as I found out the hard way making Skyblock maps, the guardian spawning is broken in superflat worlds. A guardian spawner would compensate, though, but they won't spawn naturally in monument chunks in superflat worlds. Elder guardians will generate when monuments are generated, but no guardians ever.

A guardian has a VERY small chance to spawn if there is a direct access to the sky. You should have a ceiling for better rates.
No, I mean it's literally a bug, filed at Mojang as MC-59314 in Jira.
It has affected superflat worlds since 1.7 and was confirmed again in 1.10.
Unfortunately, this is how most people make skyblock maps.
Guardians simply don't spawn.
Has anyone gotten squids to spawn in the 3.04 map? We've tried near (but more than 24 blocks away from) the main spawn island, AND out at the swapmpland chunk. No squids spawning at all.
Any ideas? YES we have them at 63 and below. Lots of water, but no squid.

2. You can get obsidian by mining the nether portal in the nether, putting the obsidian in the nether chest, dying to get back to the overworld, and then going back to the nether to respawn the nether portal
3. You can get diamonds as loot from ender cities
That was me... Lol I was already on my way to doing all those steps before you posted but if I may say, IMHO.
1.That is a LOT of work. Maybe I have been overthinking it, but that
requires you to build a villager farm, trade to get a diamond pick break
down your portal and ext.
2. 1000 blocks is extremely far to expect people to do things legit. A lot of people
would prob just stop playing and go to a server that they can buy things
from in an effort to save time. ( I know personally that is going to
hurt bad for me because my OCD insists I only build with stone brick.
Yes I know my personal problem, but I hardly build with wood because it burns too easy and I can't stand the way cobblestone
EVERYWHERE looks. As i said I know, my problem, but that is a ton of
even more grinding for me).
3. I haven't been to the ender cities on this map yet, but usually loot chests can be extremely random now with the new loot tables and the End Towers and Ships can generate very far away, which brings me back to my point in #2.
I am still enjoying the map even though it seems like I am complaining too much. Oh and if you figure out a way to update things and for me not to loose my progress that would be amazing!

Idk if you are trying to build a squid farm for some reason or if you are just trying to get black dye for sheep/glass, but if it is just for sheep or stained glass you could always just fish for them. Rain storms happen quite often on spawn island and ink sacs come up VERY often as junk. Then all you need to do is dye a sheep and shear it a few times.

We built out to the small islands with slabs, so that nothing can spawn on the path and knock us off. Also, slabs stretch the materials. To go 1000 blocks, you only need 500 cobble, and that's less than eight stacks for each island. Yes, it's a drag, but it's totally doable without cheating. I would rather have had the islands about 300 or 350 blocks from the start island... out of sight but not quite so far out. But 1000 is not unworkable.
Not sure about building into the darkness in the End yet, but since we can't handle the dragon yet, it's a moot point.
One note, just out of curiosity at what HeroWorkBrine meant about the Nether being a "big box of nothing", when I discovered a bedrock wall, I _had_ to know what was past it. . . . there's a normal Netherworld outside the box, FYI.
I know it is doable but I personally don't like working with slabs, lol I always get that glich where it goes to the bottom half of the block and then I fall and ugh... I just meant esp for newer players or people who haven't sb before it can be a lot.
Good to know about the nether. I had assumed that that was the case because of the Ghasts I would hear spawning but could never see. How did you get out tho? Did you do the tree/bedrock glitch? I didn't think that worked anymore.
I absolutely love finding a good skyblock map!! It's what got me into minecraft, and I've been hooked ever since
And its really awesome to find a map that's actually current, so THANK YOU! lol
I do have to say, the islands being 1000 blocks away is a bit grindy, and I do hope you'll find a way to tweak that a bit. I wish I could see them far off from the main island, but even 500 away each would be a huge improvement.
And I agree with whoever said about making the goals achievements somehow - but I know next to nothing about all that, so I have no clue how difficult a task that may be. One of my favorite maps had a set island and you'd just put the items in a chest, and it would drop the reward items (unfortunately, that was a 1.8 map, and the command blocks messed up all the rewards T_T)
But again, I REALLY love your map! I'm just about to start heading to my 3rd island

I friggin' cheated. I saw that bedrock wall and I went Open to LAN and enabled cheats, so I could break out and see if the rest of the Nether was there. Then I put it back and went back to playing without cheating.
Get as close to 0,0 as you can and go 1000 blocks east, you cant miss it. There is both kinds.
I have found four in the NEWS, I haven't started trying to go in the NE/SE directections yet because it would take a bit more blocks to actually path to it but I am assuming that there are islands there too. There are only 8 in total and only 8 directions you can go on the map.
speaking of that island in particular, I am surprised there wasn't a "Breed a mooshroom" challenge added to the new challenges

There is a way to break bedrock, you just have to enderpearl above it first. You need a tnt minecart. Youtube it, I can't remember it now...
