Thanks for the reviews and kind words everyone, it really makes me happy that people are playing and enjoying this. As for bugs and such, the
poison-to-blindness
effect in yellow wool seems to be broken for most people and will be absolutely fixed in the final release. That's what I get for using hopper clocks instead of fill clocks =/
Bert98, the teleporter does indeed sometimes act weird in multiplayer, thanks for pointng that out. Likewise, a book for the final wool seems to be missing for some people, so if anyone reading this is confused then :
The two souls are in Brown Wool and the Diamond resource area
Great map, and I really loved the concept. There are maybe a couple a small things that need fixing (see below), but the map is in beta, so it's understandable.
Bugs:
1) One area (I forget the name) was supposed to change the witch posion effect to blindness. Nope, that didn't happen. Not sure if that made it easier or harder.
2) I got to the final area before finding one of the souls, so was unsure where to go. Had a look at the redstone in a copy of the map and found a helpful book, but I hadn't actually come across it in the area itself. Either it was too well hidden, got blown up by creepers, or I'm a derp.
Good to hear you liked the map, Shadow! And the area you mentioned with the witch problem would've made it harder for you, BTW. The witches have a certain AI algorithm that goes Slowness, poison if slow, harming if both poisoned and slow, with the defensive potions being separate with them chugging health if they're anything less than full health, fire resist if they're on fire, and I think they can ingest a speed 1 pot, although I have no proof of it nor any idea of when they activate. Therefore, you never technically receive poison, so they just endlessly toss blindness and slow on you. This means they can never actually harm you. Just a bit of info incase anybody's curious how these evil things work.
And no, I actually didn't tell anybody about this map, although now that it comes to mind I'd love to help spread the news. If somebody could create a banner for this map I'd put it on instantly. Only reason I haven't done it is because I don't have the talent or ability to create one that looks nice.
Either give the Fire Resistance command block a player radius condition or make it a dispenser surrounded in bedrock, maybe have the sign say "stand here" or something. I made a clock pointing into it and got unlimited fire resistance. Unless that's intentional, then by all means leave it how it is.

Nice trick there, I didn't even consider that. I'll add a nice 10 block radius in there to keep that from happening, thanks for finding that.

Hey no problem. I love abusing things the mapmaker gives me I'll let you know if I find anything else that seems too good to be true. Really liking the map by the way. Very very nice change of pace from the huge sweeping areas in most modern maps. The areas have a challenge to them, but they never drag on. Need more maps like this. Even if it's just a second one with the exact same design concept - an excellent addition to the community.
Finally got around to another session and finished the map. It was very awesome! I have only three problems with the map, and they're pretty minor. First:
The Soul locations kind of threw me off. I managed to get the diamond block without dying or dropping it in fire in the green wool area, so when I got a foothold into Ghostly Gemstones and saw it had a lot of diamonds I figured it was for resources, or if you lost the diamonds in the green area, as there were only 6 ores and one block there. I didn't quite go far enough to realize there was a soul there, I turned around as I didn't need the diamonds. I got the soul from the brown wool area, and the loreified paper made me feel like I just needed to hold on to one of them, so when I made it to the altar and saw I needed two I was left scratching my head, and backtracking a lot. It didn't take too long to find as the areas are small, so maybe a little bit of a search is intended, or maybe I was expected to entirely explore each area - there were a couple I didn't. Have what I came for, about to die, time to bail!
One thing I love about modern CTM maps is that you're never forced to aimlessly look around for anything. It's generally apparent which wool is in which area, or at least that there is a wool or isn't or whatever. Even when people don't use signs/carpet indicating which/how many, you can generally tell "Oh that big castle probably has a wool." Unlike... og Black Desert, Music Discs in pantheon, books in Waking Up, etc. All of which I loved, but that's an annoyance. You obviously had the signs to the areas, so that's great, letting me know there's not a wool in the Fueled Fissures, so I'm not looking around forever.
But that kind of changed when you had 1 soul in a wool area and 1 soul in a non wool area. Maybe I would add to the sign "[Brown Wool] [??????]" and the other one just "[??????]." I don't know, I can't think of a good way to implement it without spoiling the surprise mechanics. But again, the map is so small (not a bad thing!) that it's really not that big of a deal, just something I would change to tip the scale towards perfection.
Second, and this is super minor, but it was kind of funny, kind of annoying, when I went to take a screenshot of the monument afterwards I realized that you can't take a forward facing screenshot in first person view unless you pillar/jump or break the glowstone lighting - it's just in the way of the monument. Most people probably take screenshots in F5, so that's really not a big deal, I just use first person for myself to keep track of what I have and haven't played.
Third, also very minor. When:
The portal opened in the black wool area I didn't have materials on me to light it, and had to backtrack quite a bit to get flint and steel, when I had just come into the area from backtracking, so I was entirely equipped and didn't need a refresh. It was slightly cumbersome. If It were me I'd give the player a fire charge into their inventory when the portal appears, as I assume it's not lit due to a limitation of command blocks. Another option being having the portal a block outside of the bedrock wall, already lit, and having the command punch through 2x3x2 including the wall and bedrock, revealing the portal. Maybe back another for your sign. Again, super minor, but something I'd change personally, so I figured I would mention it in case you're going to release an updated version and agree with my views
Thank you so much for all of your work on this map! I enjoyed it very much and hope to see more from you in the future. This will actually probably be the first ctm I enjoyed enough to replay with my friend
Edit: Haha, I'm an idiot. I was flying around looking at stuff in spectator and saw the chest of books outside the map, and am assuming this book was present at the altar but I lost it somehow. Maybe it fell into the void nearby. Looks like you covered your bases there, and intended for players to have to backtrack if they didn't find them the first time through. I take back point #1
Double edit: I also apparently missed the chest opposite the altar. Point #3 is null now as well.
Lets see you make a fool out of me with those glowstone blocks, huh? I go look and they're gone? I'd like to see you try it!
Very nice map. Clearly more well thought out than I had given you credit. One of my favorites!
Last edit I promise:
By the way there's a hole in your bedrock barrier in the red wool area that takes you from the entrance to the wool corridor.
Thanks for all the feedback dbptwg! You're not the only one who had issues with finding those :
That book was hanging on an item frame above the altar, but it looks like it vanished somehow. The next version will have it in a chest instead, since item frames are way too buggy. Also, how did you find that one block hole, since that's really specific
Also thanks everyone who's downloaded and played! Minimalist has gotten over 300 downloads and my mind is quite blown. You're all awesome!
Also, how did you find that one block hole, since that's really specific
I was actually digging around removing everything but bedrock in the red wool area, near the end, seeing how possible it was to tunnel in there, as I had noticed a piece of bedrock and previously was under the impression you weren't preventing sequence breaking. I started digging around toying with the idea of speed running the map, due to its small size, wanting to see just exactly where and how you had limited movement, and chanced upon it. I actually wasn't sure if I had broke it myself with a double click, so I loaded a new save file and it was still there!
I also checked a few other areas, but you were golden everywhere else
Seriously though. If for some reason you're reading this and haven't played this map, do it. It's easily one of my favorite maps and really deserves more attention. Perhaps I'll make an advert signature for the first time ever - you deserve more praise for your work.
For a map with strictly 24x24x24 areas, this map was very enjoyable. The amount of detail in each of these areas really makes the experience all the more better, and certainly keeps from making the map too monotonous. Although I did have a few bugs/problems with the last area in particular, in addition to some minor nit picky things, I would highly recommend this map to anyone just getting into the CTM genre or is looking for a break from the more difficulty CTM maps out there.
Specific Comments [SPOILERS AHEAD]:
I'm not sure if this was fixed or not in the version I was playing in, but I did not receive that much mob spam as some people seem to be having (Although that could be due to my more faster paced playing of CTMs).
Balance in this map was pretty good, although the amount of potions and food that was given out made the map a bit too easy for me (in addition to magma cubes in the Laboratory area (Brown wool I think?) that got me a decent amount of 8 minute fire resist potions making the later areas with blazes and such relatively trivial). Food was never a problem (ended up with a stack and a half of pork chops by the end of the map, in addition to the infinite bread with the loot button), though toning it down a bit may not be a bad idea.
I really liked the use of guardians in this map. Although I do find them annoying to deal with in and out of water (they just flop around so much out of water its impossible to hit them with anything :P), I think that this map used guardians fairly well. However, I did end up just tunneling in blue wool, making the area pretty easy. I do remember you saying that tunneling is the bane of this map, but I believe that there are ways to combat it (silverfish stone, for example). I feel like Black Wool's guardians were better executed, as tunneling wasn't as optimal as it was in Blue wool.
The last area was a bit tricky for me. I ended up backtracking several times to find the souls, in addition to realizing the glowstone dust and the bones in the chests were supposed to be left untouched after going into creative mode and checking the redstone behind it. I also didn't realize that I had to break the stained glass in the Lunar area, and not the actual glowstone.
Final boss was pretty trivial too. Again, the amount of potions + fire resist I had, not to mention the full diamond gear by the end, made the boss battle feel kind of anti-climactic (The skeleton part of the boss somehow managed to get stuck in the wall after falling from the mob underneath it, so it ended up suffocating to death).
All in all, was a pretty easy map for me, but it should provide a decent challenge to slower/less experienced CTM players.
I haven't played Minecraft consistently for the past two years, hardly touching the game at some points, or only watching select youtube videos. I never really fully invested in anything minecraft until I found this map. I was feeling an itch to play a ctm map (because I never have truly beaten one, only ever gotten to around the black wool and then rage quit). But now since it has been ages since I have jumped into the minecraft universe, I have felt some sort of dedication playing Minimalist that has come with maturity. It's a nice ease into the game again, and it is brilliant. While this map is meant to be completed in a short-ish amount of time, I am not rushing it at all. If anything I am trying hard to lengthen the map. When I reached intersection one, I built a base. A mediocre one at best. It felt nice, even though a base is supplied at the Majestic Monument, it was still nice to feel as though I established myself. I have taken due care in making sure I have conquered each and every single area. Currently, I have beaten everything up to Intersection three, as well as have created myself a new forward base at Intersection three. This one a lot better than the Intersection One base. I think I have found every emerald ore and special loot thus far, I don't want that to change. I am also planning on adding a separate monument for the special loot.
Sorry for the life story, I guess this is just another way of saying that this map is FLIPPING AMAZING, and I am glad that you created it.
Quick Questions:
- I think my inventory glitched and gave me two extra emeralds, somehow, what is the maximum amount of emeralds that you could have by intersection three (considering I haven't gone into any Intersection three areas)? I don't want to be cheaty
- This may be too soon to ask, but are you making / planning on making another map?
Thanks for those kind words zenzangzong2, glad you're enjoying the map. I also set up bases every time I get to an intersection, so you're not alone there ^^ Anyway, the intersection 1 and 2 areas should've given you a total of 7 emeralds, assuming you didn't have a fortune pick. And I am indeed planning on making more maps, I currently have 2 in the planning stage right now and will certainly post some screenshots when I start building.
I've considered it, but I think my next map is going to be larger. It'll definitely be as non-traditional as this one is though, that's for sure. I might revisit this concept again in the future though, since the level design was a very fun challenge.
I decided to start a playthrough of this map, and so far I'm thoroughly impressed with how well you've used the 24x24x24 limitation I'm having so much fun with this map! The balancing has so far been quite well, a few areas can be quite challenging, but that's half the fun!

I really enjoyed this CTM map. I haven't played a ton of CTM maps, probably ~7 or so, but this one was my favorite...... by far. I often get bored in some of the large CTM maps. It becomes more of a chore to me to get through long repetitive areas. Never had this problem in Minimalist. I was very impressed with how large you made some of the areas feel even though they were only 24x24x24.
So here are my spoilery thoughts:
1. Very impressed by Trepidatious Tree: Couldn't believe it was 24x24x24. Felt way larger. Eventually this area became my farm area.
2. Only felt "spammed" by enemies in a few spots: Nightmarish Nursery. Tons of baby zombies (can't remember the custom mob names) at the bottom of the ladders down. Ghastly Glacier (Worst part about all the ghasts was their screaming when they spawn in walls. VERY annoying.)
3. I was let down by the black wool area. I loved the less gravity part of the Lunar Lair, but felt that the area was too easy. Not sure how to make it tougher, but I had all the diamond gear / great potions by then and never felt challenged by the Lunar Lair.
4. Witch blindness didn't work in the version I played. Not sure if you thought you had fixed this yet or not. I downloaded this a while ago. just an FYI.
5. Didn't have any problems with figuring out the soul thing.
6. I love that you limited the Lapis and the Nether Wart. Other than my little rant in 6b, I thought the map was very well balanced.
6b. I'm not a very good judge of how hard CTMs are. I consider myself a decent but not great minecraft player, I died around 8 times playing on normal. i would have limited the Nether Wart even more. I believe you give soul sand with the Wart in the lab in I3, i wouldn't, I'd wait a bit before giving them the soul sand. You gave a lot of potions in chests throughout the map, And I had a TON of potion supplies, getting the netherwart+soul sand made it instantly possible to make basically unlimited potions. Or maybe the map is hard enough and this is a dumb suggestion, like I said, I'm not a very good judge of things like that.
7.. The only area that I didn't really like was the Hedges area or the coal area.
8. So I actually played through twice since I enjoyed it so much.
8b. Side question : Where is the stone that grants all the health? I recall having it at the end of my first playthrough, but not at the end of my second..... Did I forget to complete something the second time? Is it out of the map (I flew around in creative after I beat it the first time to see how it was laid out)? Did I just miss it? I honestly can't remember how I got it?
9. Great job. I will be keeping an eye out for anything else you make. Especially if they are again small compared to the other huge CTMs out there.

Suggestion for the map:
