Wonderful map, Nate! I heard about your map from xisumavoid's Crypt Crawler let's play series. When I saw it, I had to try it out for myself, as it has such great gameplay mechanics, custom resource pack, and I just really like dungeons. Although it's been awhile since I played it, I come to you now as I still have your resource pack in my folder. I have to admit, I peeked at the redstone, and it's well organized! Although, I do have a couple questions...
How do you get the events to trigger just by players being in a certain location? A simple explanation on how to use the [x=#,y=#,z=#,dx=#,dy=#,dz=#] selectors. As well, how do the keys work? How do you get mobs to drop them? How do they work on gates? How do they work on locked chests? Full detail would be appreciated!
And most importantly, do you have any tips on how to make a texture pack as good as yours? Specifically, how do you get it to look so detailed? (My attempts come out looking rather simplistic...) And how did you get the armor icons to appear three-dimensional?
Thanks you for your assistance, and please continue to make amazing maps, such as this one!
Thanks for the positive feedback. I have done a video explaining most of the things you asked about. Here is the link to the playlist: I don't always explain things the most clearly when I speak. So if you have more questions, then please let me know.
The [x=#,y=#,z=#,dx=#,dy=#,dz=#] selectors are quite simple. The first x,y,z is the lowest corner of a region. The dx,dy,dz is the offset in each direction. Basically you are testing for when a player is in a certain cubic region. The region is defined by the lowest corner and the distance in each direction. For example: [x=0,y=10,z=-5,dx=1,dy=2,dz=5]. starting at the coordinate x=0, y=10, z=-5 then we offset in each direction according to the dx,dy,dz. So, you detect for players that are within: 1 block in the x direction, 2 blocks in the y direction, and 5 blocks in the x direction. I hope this helps.
First off, when you make a texture pack, you should get a good program. If you have Photoshop, you can use it, but if you don't, then you can download Gimp for free. I use Gimp. To make it look more detailed increase the resolution. By default, Minecraft textures are 16x16 pixels. But most of the textures for Crypt Crawler were 32x32 pixels. You can also add variation to shade and color. What I do is, I make the texture just using 1-3 color variations, then I pick a brush in Gimp and I use the doge/burn tool to make certain areas of the texture look lighter/darker. It can help turn something simplistic into something that looks more realistic and detailed.
Thank you for your support. I hope I can keep making maps that you will enjoy. Have a great day!
First Id like to say Ive done alot of looking into this map, reading and watching videos and i must say its rather impressive looking. Ive done some dungeons like this myself for live servers using command blocks so i know how much time you have invested in this and some of your concepts youve used in your redstoning/CB's are inspiring.
I have one problem though and i havent quite figured out what the solution is so Im posting here hoping maybe you can help.
I have no mobs. None anywhere...
Now i understand this is meant as a single player map and i am actually running this on a spigot server. No not for a live server just my personal test server im using in hopes of playing this map with my brothers.
The only plugins i have installed is map editors like world edit and voxel and other than that multiverse so im not really sure how any of that is affecting mob spawning.
Ill poke around a little more and try to figure it out but maybe you have an idea whats going on... Id really love to be able to play this with my brothers.
UPDATE: Not sure what the deal was but i reinstalled the map on a different server with a fresh server install with spigot 1.8.8 and only essentials in the plugins folder.. works great now everything seems functional and the mobs do spawn now... cant wait to run this with my brothers.

Thank you very much. I am glad you got it figured out. It seems like non-vanilla servers have a hard time sometimes running custom maps. At least that is what I have experienced. I hope you have fun. Good luck beating all the monsters.
What did I just play..? This was the best map I have EVER played. Better than Diversity 2 or The Dropper. And I have very high standards for a good map. I'll put the end stats of my character after each playthrough.
God, your map reminded me of when I used to play Hack Slash Mine. (For those that don't know, HSM was an RPG modpack for 1.2.5 available for the Technic Launcher)

Thank you very much! I had one 0 deaths playthrough but it was on easy mode. I managed to do a 2 death hard playthrough (I died to the second pit trap, and Deathlord). But that is after a lot of practice. Have a fantastic day!
Is the map updated for 1.9? If not, are you going to update it?
No, the map is not updated for 1.9. I don't think I will update it. 1.9 changed a lot of the commands. It would be too much work to change all the signs, all the summon commands, and the attack speeds. I would basically have to recreate the map entirely. So instead I am focusing on making new and better maps.

Sounds neat! Be sure to let me know if you make anything similar. We're currently updating Hypixel's Adventure Lobby to 1.9, and your map was the biggest hit in 1.8
Unbelievable. I remember there used to be mods that tried to replicate Zelda-like dungeon experiences, with the keys and whatnot, but I've never seen it done in vanilla. The best part is how, even when I did encounter bugs, you were always one step ahead of me with the debug book.
Probably one of the most flawless minecraft experiences I've ever had. You did a fantastic job. I can only critique one thing, and it's pretty minor:
The recycle bins might need a minor nerf since I can buy 16 arrows, put them in the recycle bin, and get more than 15 gold back most of the time. Then again, you have those spawners that are a more effective gold/xp farm, so it's not game breaking or anything.
I look forward to playing your other maps! Maybe in 1.9 with the addition of random loot chests, moddable armor values and weapon speeds, you can add even more crazy diversity to this sort of gameplay.

Thank you very much. I tried really hard to make sure everything worked well. So I am glad you enjoyed it.
I thought I made the arrows more expensive so that you couldn't make money buying arrows. Oh well, I guess I missed that one.
I do have big plans for 1.9. The loot tables are going to come in handy for a randomized dungeon crawler. Plus the extra attribute modifiers will help me make more unique items. I hope I can continue to make maps that you will enjoy.

Very cool, do more maps like this! Maybe with a storyline, more boss fights, something like Hypixel's maps.
I moved my account.
