bRanN's Beastmaster
Speed Challenge Version 2.15 for Minecraft 1.8.0 or Higher
Kill as many different MOBs as you can in just 40 minutes. Each MOB is worth a specified amount of points and gives a customized drop. Plan your route carefully as some drops will be more useful to you than others. Good luck Beastmaster in Training!
Map inspired by Etho's Speed Challenge #10: Beast Master
Etho's Original Challenge
Etho has a Speed Challenge series where he gives an objective and a time limit. If you want to participate you just follow the rules he has laid out. His Speed Challenge #10 was called Beast Master. The objective is to kill as many different MOB types as possible. The rules are; play in hardcore and give yourself a 30 minute time limit. Points being awarded at 1 point per unique MOB.

What makes my map different than the original challenge?[
o Hardcore? Not quite... For my map the limiting factor will be time.
You have 40 minutes to kill one of each MOB, don't expect a full clear on the first run.
o Point System - 1 Point per MOB? Ha! Some MOBs are more rare than others,
therefore, some MOBs should be worth more than others. Now they are.
o Automation - Tally sheets? Stopwatches? Why bother ... with 1.8, Minecraft
can keep track of everything for us! The challenge will end once the timer runs out, and the
game will tell you how many points you've earned.
o Rewards - Killing a MOB more than once won't give additional points,
but it will give you specific items per kill. Gone are natural MOB drops, but I think
you'll find there new drops more useful.
o Multiplayer Friendly - Compete by yourself or with a group of friends. You may
want to turn off PvP ... or not.
What are you waiting for? Take on the challenge!

I've been told that to complete this challenge in 40 minutes would be impossible...

One More Thing...
For those of you that like to plan ahead, here is a list of the
MOBs, point value and associated rewards:
My strategy would begin with getting a piece of flint then finding a cave to easily kill a Spider / Skeleton / and a bunch of Zombies. That will give a bow, some arrows and a bunch of iron. Killing any Creepers along the was as well - they drop obsidian...
Why? Because there are less MOBs in the nether, and if you get them all you can earn "Gotta Fight 'em All", and that gives you Resistance II for the rest of the map.
Played it. I really enjoyed the mechanics, and you chose a good spot to spawn the player (in relation to certain places certain mobs need to spawn).
I emailed you re: the timer issue I had, but here's my score(s). My video will air December 22nd. http://www.youtube.com/rsmalec
At 30 minutes after pressing 'Begin the Challenge' button, my score was 15. (The timer said there were still 10 min remaining).
When I entered the nether, there were 4 min left and I got my score to ~24.
After coming back from the Nether and letting the clock run out, I had 41 points. (~58 min)
So I'm not exactly sure how I should count my score. But I swear I did not cheat on purpose.

Thank you so much Ron! I will be fixing this very shortly. I will also look into the timing of the clock, I knew it ran a little slow, but I didn't think it was off by that much.
For anyone interested, I will also put up a video of this issue and my workaround over the weekend.
Review Summary
Inspired by a survival challenge in an Ethos Lab video, how many unique mob types can you kill in 30 minutes? Take this challenge and find out! Mobs are each worth a specified number of points for the first kill. Normal mob drops are disabled, but for each kill you get a particular item that can help or hinder your search. The land mass chosen for the challenge is great, as it has all of the necessary features to complete the challenge.
Total Rating: 16
Innovation - 4 (clever mechanics in hub and in-game)
Detail - 2 (vanilla world)
Experience - 3 (tense!)
Challenge - 3 (survival with time-limit)
Progression - 4 (well-chosen game area, well-designed mob drops) To read more about how my rating system works, or to see how this map compares to over 555 other maps I've rated, click the image in my signature!
Note: the timers were broken in the review version, but this has been fixed in the current.
Woot! Finally got this thing updated! And it's smooth now. Should be no more bugs, and I tweaked some of the rules to make it more balanced. Check the chart or the in-game book for a list of what to go after. Pardon the chart, I'm in the process of laying it out nicer.
I may also add a small guide to this post if there is enough excitement for this map. Otherwise, I'll be working on the next project on my list - a custom UHC with some fun twists.

I did a test run on this and I absolutely love this challenge map. My score was 36 on this first run so I don't think that was too bad considering. I will definitively be posting some vids on this one. Thanks bRanN for making this; it is a ton of fun for sure.
