Welcome to my new map: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. This map is a 1st person story of Harry's life in JK Jowlings first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The map will, when complete, feature every area in the book. While making the map I am trying to make the locations from the book as authentic as possible by using maps and pictures of the areas from the movies and JK Jowling herself. Hope you enjoy the map!
Beta Testers Needed
As of now the map is only just getting underway, though I have spent probably 15 hours on it already. It only features about 10 minutes of gameplay so far, but I want to see how the Minecraft community thinks the map is so far. Because of this I have released a pre-release download down below featuring Harry's life up to the Dursley family going to the London zoo for Dudley's birthday. It is probably only 10 minutes of gameplay but I want never the less to see how you guys like the map. I'd love if you'd download the map and play it through and then come back here and tell me what you think. This will help me improve the map and you will be on the credits wall in all future releases!
Progress
Introduction (Completed)
Number 4 Privet Drive (Completed)
Little Whinging-neighborhood Dursley's live in (Completed)
Very impressive map! I'll be sure to do a Let's Play of the map once it's fully released. Only two things that I have to comment on: 1) When I first loaded the world, I spawned in the "mirror" version of Pivet Drive and it took me a while to find out where I was supposed to go;2) It took me a long time to find out what I was supposed to do with the pressure plate given to me by Uncle Vernon so you might want to give some sort of hint. I can't wait to see how awesome this map will be once finished!
Good map, however, there are somethings you need to fix
1) In the parkour area, you can get the chest without doing the jumps.
2) Find a way to make it not re-speak the text when you exit a room, (T-Flip-Flop Maybe?)
3) I spawned outside of the green wool room, and was in creative.
Besides that, I enjoyed it! I can't wait till it is finished and I can play it with my co-op friend! Good luck!
Wow, thank you guys so much for the help! I have really appreciated it! You have mentioned a lot of things to me that I never would have realized by my self and I'll be sure to mention you guys in the credits for your help! Keep up the amazing ideas!
Okay guys I've updated the download link including all your suggestions! They have really helped make the map better. You guys will all sure be in the credits!
That was good, but I have a few things. 1. I couldn't find all 8 nuggets... D: 2. It was a little glitchy... when I talked to Petunia it showed a conversation with yvonne and 3. Is it alright if I post my recording? It was overall great and you did a really good job at making the houses and it was really fun!
I found that:
1. You spawn with 14 signs
2. You can access the chest in Yvonne's basement without doing the course.
3. You can access the front of Number 4 before you get the Pressure Plate by going into the Backyard and heading left until you hit the map boundaries, then, by turn left and heading forward, you are in the Front Yard.
Overall a good map. If it was complete, I would give it a 9/10. I will follow this tread.
Great map bro, probably my favourite map so far..
Few things to fix up though..
I started with 14 sings, Parkour in the basement you can just jump up and crab the chest.
It didn't explain clearly were to go once you have the key to the car. but I figured it out.
Maybe put some cool items or a score, secrets and hints in secret chests in other houses or tricky hiding spots. Other than that great map, looking forward to see more
nice bro i also started with 14 signs.... the lever was to easy to grab but amazing i really enjoyed and started to get into it... thnx and i really look forward to the future of this map.. i also think you should put kinda like prizes or special colleging items through out the chest and maps and have them affect your score some how hahah this was fantastic loved the detail hope to see more
1: you should a pressure plate in front of the mirror in the dungeons of hogworts that gives you flint (renamed the sourcerer's stone).
2: in Hogwarts, the sorting hat teleports you in a room and says on a sign 'Griffindor!' and then a way to teleport back.
3: you should have glass with sticky pistons at the zoo with the boa constrictor (out of wool) and then have the glass close and dudlys in there (you step on a pressure plate to open the glass).
4: you should make professor Queril a boss fight at the end, make him out of wool and give the player a flint and steel to burn Queril/Voldimort.
5: Ron and Hermonie be wolfs the player tames on the bus so they follow the player around.
6: give the player a egg(s) to hatch the dragon (chicken) in Hagrids hut.
7: unicorn out of wool and cauldron with water being the unicorns blood.
Hope these suggestions help! (P.S. if you add me in the credits, ING is Creeper_A_Geeper and could you put a link to my Youtube channel Pigman Puncher (I'll probably do a LP). =D
Pretty interesting how there is a hidden lava source near the back corner of the yard(I heard it, I didn't dig for it).
Now if only you had a better hand in red stone and command blocks you could have kept the player in the yard, grounds of the Dursley's home, till after the front door is unlocked with the pressur plate, or people could just skip the front door, go to the other house's basement and jump(Like the previous comments here says) to grab the key, which would end the game unfairly in a matter of seconds.
Maybe if you use a pig or a special Red stone clock As such you can be sure players stay in a certain area till they clear a challange(Add pressure plate to the door to permanently disable those command block clocks).
A fun little addition you could do for people who has the time, and wants to drag out the world of Harry Potter, you could add special mini tasks. Like when on chapter one, you can set up where we have to farm, and run around the block to do tasks for all the neighbors, to get Dudley his breakfast, and random other junk, to get small rewards(Not from the Dursley, but random people, if you give them what Dudley gave you), and some easter eggs(Use of Daylight sensors) give people special treats for traveling the right places at the right time.
But in general I really liked the map. It was a pretty nice short de-stresser from the normal survival, parkour maps I usually do.
would also like for the text to be not so much heavy, i felt like their was too much info, i just wanted to get on with the next quest line. Maybe you should announce the quest and while the player is moving, but the story line dialogue in after the quest being announced.
But that extra text is what helps even people who never read the books understand how much the Dursley's love to hear their own voices, and bark demands at Harry.
While since this is the first start to the beta of the map, it is more than acceptable that he adds such text as a 'filler' to the lack of content to the map.
I really like this map! For it just being a WIP it's really interesting, there are a couple of things that could be tweaked. The first thing is at the parkour you can just jump up near the end to get the chest. This could be easily fixed by having the mini hallway turn into the wall. Next (At least for me) I couldn't always find where to go for things and where to place stuff. If that is the way it is supposed to be then I apologize for this comment. Other than that it was a really great map and I can't wait to play the final. Thanks!

That's just a video of my play through...
