You awaken in a dark cell with no recollection of how you got there. Your only surroundings are the chipped brick walls and the moans of your cellmate neighbors.
Your mind races as you hear the footsteps of guards outside your prison. Only one thought flashes through your mind: Escape.
As Maxwell, you will be forced to solve puzzles that test your Minecraft knowledge and reflexes, both mental and physical, as you make your way from your cell and throughout the grim facility that houses you.
~Maxwell's Escape: A map by Cnecomicz~
I like to think this is a different sort of adventure map.
What it lacks in artistic builds I believe it certainly makes up in thought-provoking-ness and quality of playthrough. Even if you know exactly what to do, it still should take you about a half hour to a whole hour. There's a bit of a developing storyline, developing characters, all that jazz.
There's a readme included in the .zip, but it basically boils down to the following rules:
-Don't cheat
I've got a couple of screenshots here, but the real excitement comes when you download and test the map for yourself.
I've also got a video playthrough by a friend up and ready, in case you happen to get stuck on a part (Hey, if you don't, I haven't done my job right), yet I'd be delighted if you wished to record your own.
I'll post the top quality
(I'm not that picky)
recordings of anyone that wants their video shown. More views for my map and more views for your video, everybody wins.
So here's the first part of my friend's playthrough; watch him (drunkenly?) stumble throughout my map, accompanied by a chorus of sweet, sweet voices.
If you're up for more spoilers, watch the rest of these videos. The first one doesn't give away too much in terms of solving the puzzles, but be warned, these next few videos show everything and its mother.
Part Two:
Part Three:
Part Four:
Part Five:
I'd like to tell you more about the map, but this is really the kind of map where, to enjoy it, you have to get your feet wet. Looking at screenshots and watching playthroughs doesn't give it justice, so download it and try it for yourself!
But don't take our word for it! Here what people have to say about the map here!

Hey,
I just finished playing your map sir.
I have to say I absolutely loved it.
This story driven escape was expertly crafted.
The freedom to think really made this feel more like an escape.
My Rating for this map is 4.8 <--- My highest rating ever!
Take all the clarity and brilliance of a full size Maxwell's Escape and put it in the palm of your hand with this new, slightly improved portable model. The new, slimmer design allows for easier control while still allowing maximum flexibility and resilience. That's because we built Maxwell's Escape on a robust framework that supports full compatibility with other systems, but doesn't sacrifice the original mesquite flavor, or that signature *crunch* you've come to love. Forged in the Himalayas by genuine Appalachian steel smiths from the Andes, and then hand woven into intricate patterns designed to match even the most problematic complexions, you'll see a difference after only a few days of using Maxwell's Escape. Each piece in the full collection is hand numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, and is guaranteed only to rise in value. Available in rose, fuschia, coral, salmon, pink, and harmony. Sizes S, M, L, XL, and CFIMFF (Can't Fit In My Ford Festiva). Do not take internally, unless you're into that sort of thing. Not available in all states, only as a gas or solid.
Loving it so far! Just one problem. In your read-me you keep saying that there are no dead set rules and that I should decide myself whether I'm cheating. And that makes me super anxious that I'm playing it wrong. :sad.gif: Maybe that's just me though. :laugh.gif:

Thanks for the feedback! I just love that warm bubbly feeling in my belly of praise in my mind, or perhaps that's all the Potions of Harming I've been drinking! As for your concern, there are a couple of ways I can approach that question, none of which are going to console you that much, I'm afraid:
1) You're trapped in a prison! There are rules for escaping those things?! Next time I get stuck in the slammer for griefing, get me one of them fancy rule books!
2) A let's play should be coming along within a week or so. It's my friend playing through it, and I'm sitting right next to him, and he didn't even do everything exactly right. I refrained from saying much, and he managed to beat it just fine, even with his lone-brain-cell handicap.
3) If you do figure out that you've been going at it slightly wrong, let me know in the forums! I can edit my map a bit, and re-release it with the added hints and tricks.
Once again, thanks, Skyreah, for the playthrough! Let me know how your escapades in escape end up!
Hey everyone! I just wanted to update my progress a little bit.
For those of you stuck on my map, or for those of you who enjoy watching videos of people play videogames instead of playing them yourselves, the first of a five part playthrough is taking its virgin voyage on that big ole sea YouTube. Go cheer it on!
In order to avoid posting a double post, I'll just go ahead and make this a two part post. This second part applies to all you Minecraftians(?), not just the Bulletproof6246 we all know and love.
The other part is that part two of our walkthrough is on YouTube. I've hidden it inside an extra set of spoiler tags because it really does have a few spoilers that would give away some of the harder puzzles in the map. Watch- if you dare.
Hello everyone! Hope the map playthrough is going well, and if you haven't downloaded it, now would be the best time! For a limited time only, lasting from now until nebular collapse, Maxwell's Escape is free to download here off of the Minecraft Forums! Act now before this offer expires, or you'll be forced to purchase Maxwell's Escape for only three easy payments of $19.95, and one complicated payment! We won't tell you which one, but one these payments will be difficult!
Anyways, part three of that video walkthrough is up. Thought you ought to know.
Hey there, everyone! Sorry for all the multiple posts, but that's your fault for not posting in between my posts! :wink.gif:
This one's an update telling everyone that the complete Let's Play is on YouTube right now! If you're stuck or want a taste of the action before jumping in, watch the playlist here.
Also, don't be afraid to leave me some feedback! Every little bit helps, even if it's just "I'm downloading." I'm motivated by the community's response and I'm striving to make this map the best it can be. So g'head, don't be shy; tell me how much my map rocks, blows, changed your life, or has affected you at all.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I'd love if you decided to do a review! :smile.gif:
What all would that review entail, beyond what you've said in this post?

Wow, thanks for the great review! It means a lot to me. :smile.gif:
Do you mind if I start a "Testimonials" section on the first post, and quote you in it?

Thanks so much! :smile.gif: The first few reviews I've gotten are up now; they seem pretty positive!
I look forward to seeing so many new reviews from the community! If anyone has any feedback or constructive criticism to contribute, I'll gladly consider their input!
Hey everyone, this is a bump masked with a bit of information so it's not entirely pointless. :wink.gif:
For starters, I'd like to thank everyone who has downloaded so far. There's been 167 downloads, which doesn't begin to compare to some of the more high quality maps, but for me it's phenomenal, and I'm really grateful. To those of you who have tried my map, thank you so much, and I really appreciate the support you've given me. To those who haven't, please check it out!
I also have a couple of ideas bouncing around in my head to update this map, making a few of the puzzles clearer and such, but I'm not really sure if I want to do that. Most of the puzzles are supposed to be intentionally tricky, because it's not exactly easy to break your way out of a prison. In addition, there isn't really rules to breaking out, so if you manage to safely get out of there and completely bypass all the challenges, you might miss some cool little tricks, but you still beat my map fair and square.
Pero al fin y al cabo, I really do need some input from people who play my map. Videos are the best so I can see just what goes through your mind, helping me to clear up some things that have been continuously ambiguous, but even a little written feedback with some thoughts works wonders. I've got a huge project (expect to see teasers soon!) in the works, so I need to know what works and what doesn't, if not for Maxwell's Escape I then for what's to come.
So to wrap everything up, thanks again everyone for being so supportive toward my map! It means a lot. If things lean toward that direction, I'll be releasing an updated version really soon.
I still need a little bit of input towards the revisions. I have some ideas but I really can't tell how someone who has no clue how to already beat the puzzles would go about this map. Input is greatly appreciated and really needed at this point.
Still dropping hints about that big project, scattered throughout my previous posts and this one. It'll be exciting. :smile.gif:

Fancy new Scribblenauts mod?! Someone get on that right now!
