Ah I see I kept looking for the secret in the pool but got frustrated and decied to burn eveeything so that it might reveal the room lol...
I decided to take that idea and keep it for the sequel instead... (Yes! There will be one!)
However, those who downloaded version 1.3, like you, have had the chance of seeing the preview.
Starting today, I will slowly start working on a sequel to this map. Surely, it isn't the most popular map out there, but I had fun making it, so I think it'll be equally fun to create and share the next one!
If you have any ideas, or would like to help in any way the creation of the next map, please say so! (You couldn't really help by building, unless it's with a schematic, since my online doesn't go very well.)
Review 9.5/10
+ the most amazing view of a mansion you will ever see the scenary is a delicious eye candy, it has a very interesting way to give out both the rules and the story in the same signs, there is a lot of easter eggs even with the creator explaining them ( or soon to explain them for what i can see ) this map will keep you entertained and will make you curious to explore the entire mansion
+ nothing really difficult if you have played other custom maps entirely focused on making you ripp your hair out, you will find that this map is not difficult at all, yes it has instant death traps that could potentialy leave you no way to continue the map, forcing you to break the rules but it makes it up for nerve shivering experience and the signs explaining such things are a detail worth to notice
- surprisingly short, well main plot wise of course if you playground both the ending and the side quest AKA: easter eggs, but considering you can even find them, since the difficult is in effect going to certain places will get enemies to chase you down, potentialy killing you and making this map harder to complete, not really a bad thing unless it takes away an important item you needed to complete the map
Conclusion: a MUST download just the mansion itself is worth seeing with your own eyes and with your favorite texture pack hehe i dont think it matters really wich texture pack you use it will simply look amazing, the puzzles arent difficult at all just tricky, but thats shouldnt stop you from playing, make it a goal that when you complete the map hunt down for all the easter eggs you might find a lot of video game refferences, i want to make a video but with both the ones your making and the one by potty im not entirely sure, that and i already went trough it once so its kinda hard to have that fresh reaction to the twist hehe needless to say i will think about it
oh yes suggestions sorry for making this a huge wall text hope you dont mind, keep the "and it all comes to a full circle" what i mean by this is that you go somewhere you solve some puzzle, oh Piston puzzles would be interesting to see, and once your done and take lets say a minecart you somehow end up nearly at the beginning but now able to explore new areas of this like Hub for the entire map which for the monarch it was the pillar something nice i would like to see is a meadow or just like an "open" area and i say that in parentesis because you would limit how far we can go this would also be perfect to adjust the new easter eggs in this "open" area
hope this helps but other than that thank you for sharing and looking foward to the new upgrades to the Monarch of Madness 83
Thanks for the lengthy review, I appreciate it! You made good points, and did bring up important details. I hope you found most, if not all the secrets planted around the map! I will be working not only on the successor to this map, but also on this one for a while. I know there could be some added details, although so far it seems to satisfy most of the players. I'll keep your suggestions in mind!
Wow, amazing architectural detail. Have to add this to the growing list of maps to try.
Glad you consider playing this one then! When you get to trying the MoM (I know, the acronym sounds absurd), be it tomorrow or in a hundred days, I hope you'll enjoy every minute of it!
These past two days, I've worked on a new area (two sections, to be exact) to add to the current map. Their existence will only add a spice of challenge to the adventure, with semi-difficult puzzles. Here is a screenshot (showing both areas at once... any guesses as to what it could be?):
I'm going to test it, and when testing will be done, it'll be added to the next version!
Sorry it took me so long to review this. I swamped myself with maps.
A very nice map. You DEFINITELY captured madness and awesome awesome scale. I can only imagine the effort. I really liked the way you circled us back to the pillar multiple times. There were a good number of jumping puzzles (not a big fan) but they didn't seem to be a huge problem. There were 2 spots where it took me a while to figure out what to do. I was honestly surprised when it ended as I thought it was going to be about twice this length.

My Final Score: n/a - a full inventory of random junk :smile.gif:
Lots of words in the starting area. I -think- I know where to go (thru the door). Not sure the point of the pool.
Didn't die from the long drop, but fell again and killed myself.
Mansion(?) looks awesome. I like the details of the buttons for decoration.
I am thoroughly intimidated by the scale. This first room with green wool jumping... do I go up? down? straight ahead?
I went up. Got a bow, arrow, sword, food... but it's on peaceful. I think that's what you recommended... Still - awesome view.
Crazy jumping puzzles and a little maze
Ooh - a map. interesting
impressed with the snow/ice visuals in Frigid Sprint. although i'm getting a little frustrated with the actual race :wink.gif:
Aha! I see what's going on. These puzzles are uncovering the sand blocks into the control room. Very nice. SLIGHT recommendation -
use gravel instead of sand (for the gray pallet)
'burn the green wool' - do you mean cyan? or is this dark shadowed square green? probably. i didn't get flint yet anyway
ok got it. this maze is simple, but messing with my head. where am i supposed to run TO?
not sure if the fire nerf is messing up this part or not. i see sand. that's a good sign.
am i allowed to place blocks to keep track of my path?
the loot in hidden chests is totally random? i love it!
the signs in the dust dorm made me chuckle
more jumping... and more spectacular views
hmm... i blew the glass and went into a crypt with no exit. am i supposed to break snow in here?
well... I blew up the room with the graves but i don't see what to do. going to check the forums
hmm... somehow I missed a chest in here with a wooden shovel - but it's all pitch dark now
"climb upstairs.." where? am i supposed to plant a torch and melt ice?
ah. it's done. i thought it was going to be MUCH longer
nice overall. not really many suggestions for improvement. it's... crazy

Thanks for the review! I'm quite surprised you gave it a lower score (by one point =P) than my previous map. I was more satisfied with this one overall, and it got much more positive feedback, so I thought there other one was crap in comparison... Hehe.
I will consider changing the sand to gravel, although I dislike the look of it when using the default textures. The many moments of confusion are normal, since that's what I was aiming for during the creation of the map. A lot of pointless areas were necessary to add to the madness! At least, I guess I achieved that specific goal in question.
Now, I'll go back to ameliorating the map, and working on that "issue" you brought up twice: The length. How much time do you suggest it should last, for someone who doesn't know the map?
I reread my own definition of 'progression' and i may bump this from 2 to 3. My original score was only thinking of gear and score/loot items, which are n/a here. But the progression of puzzles and rooms is well done. As i even said, i liked the multiple uses of the pillar.
As to the length, it's not an issue. I prefer maps right around the hour mark.
But in this case i was surprised for 3 reasons.
1 - you noted it took 47 minutes for you.
2 - the scale of the mansion is huge, i felt like i was only half done exploring.
3 - i felt like the story just hit a high note with the reveal, and touched on the butler. I thought it was going to go further down that route.

1 - It did, but I made sure to grab every secret route/chest on the way, so it could have been even shorter.
2 - Indeed, that is an issue I wouldn't mind attending, as there is a lot of potential in the empty spaces of the Castle (left open to future ideas).
3 - Hmm, I understand what you mean. I do agree with you on that point, and therefore, I may add a bit more "content" between the reveal and the ending.
I died seven times on the first problem and just quit. I felt like I was trapped and had to Escape, and I don't do that kind of maps. Sorry. It's not a map I can handle.
But then again, I see you have over 1 200 DL:s, why do you need my review?
I also see that Rsmalec is on the case, that's all the review you need. :smile.gif:
I just enjoy all sorts of review I guess. Thanks for your honest opinion though! Just a question though: What first problem? There are a few, depending which way you follow.
Wow, I'm surprised to see my maps next to so many other great maps. I'm glad you seemingly enjoyed my work enough to rate it as such! Your feedback has been great help.
I don't know if this is considered a spoiler or not but just in case.
You are amazing for having Still Alive play in its entirety with note blocks and have it travel up and down the hallway with you.
Thanks ^^ Although I might have to insert a ladder next to the entrance of the secret so that people can get back up, instead of simply jumping in the incinerator. What do you think? Is the secret worth dying?

It is pretty awesome but I did not appreciate having to die to be able to enjoy it.
Version 1.6 is released! If you wanted to play the map before, now is the perfect time! The story is now a little longer, so the map could last around 20 minutes longer. If you find any issues, or would like to give feedback of any kind, don't be shy!
