How can I get wood? I made a base almost beside the spawn, which direction from the spawn should I go? I think I went back and to the left for the entrance. The tunnel I made is about 8 blocks past the spawn going the default direction, am I close?
UPDATE: I found a tree. And dirt. Cut the tree down, grabbed the only sappling ( :sad.gif: ) and swam back to my house. The tree is growing inside my opened area, I have a furnace, a work bench, a stone pick, 4 torches, and a bunch of dirt.
For all of you who are complaining: Right at the spawn, move over 2-3 blocks, and dig a bunch of sand. Collect 8 at least, prefferably 12. Make sandstone, and place all the blocks in a row, above sand. Dig under the sandstone and you should have an air pocket. From there, go out, collect more sand, and repeat, until you have a nice base to stay in. Then, kill yourself, and from the spawn, go completely straight, making small 4-5 square big air pockets to get air, and then keep going. You will find a tree, directly straight from the spawn. As close to it as you can, make an air pocket. Slowly cut the tree down, collect all the wood, wait for leaves to die, collect saplings. Then retreat back to your house, plant the saplings, and wait. (Dirt is easily found near the tree, grab a bunch. It's useful because it doesn't fall like sand, and you don't have to collect 4 sand and craft it like sandstone.) Wait for it to grow, and make a tree farm.
At this point, you will have
-Wood
-A shelter
-Knowledge
I think you should start in a small place WITH air to begin, so you don't spawn and die over and over. Like, a 2x2 room made of glass, so they can't take the resources the place is made from, but they can not die, and they can see.

I actually did that on my map. :smile.gif: I don't want to hijack his thread with a link to my map though, so I'll PM you the forum link.
Yo Fig u should definetly make a youtube vid of how to survival
I actually shot some video last night of my 3rd playthrough of his map... But by the time it makes it to Youtube, I don't know how well you'll be able to see it... I was playing in the dark for the first 5-10 Minutes.
I'll see about throwing them up though, so people can at least get a GENERAL idea.

I'm making a video of the stuff I made before I switch to the new version, I actually started hitting the edge of the map and needed more water so I gave it an hour and changed 93 million blocks. I'm planning to add some adventure to this map for later versions like pirate treasures and shipwrecks that don't change the challenge but give you something to do.
I'm glad to see so many people actually playing this and I'm going to work and update as often as possible.

I was thinking about having a glass box but I did not want to steal the idea from figment and I still want it to be difficult. if you start with air then most people would just dig down and never actually move around underwater. if people are forced to move underwater then they will end up in a less than perfect spot. That is why I moved the spawn on version 1.1 You spawn near trees but you are then forced to move 20+ blocks away. This will help prevent people from just bunkering down the whole game and getting bored.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to add a sense of adventure to this map? I want to keep the survival part but have hidden objects hidden in some parts of the map. Ive already come up with a sunk pirate ship and the remains of a city but I want better ideas so I went to the INTERNET.
The maps awesome, I already have a pretty big base going on (Protip, immediately at spawn dig into dirt to make an air pocket, then dig upward into the leaves of a tree to make another air pocket, then start hitting down the tree. Make a furnace, light up some logs for charcoal, make a door for entrence while blocking the water, and your set. And when you find a cave, constantly dig into the side or the ceiling for air pockets, and place torches.)
I've found diamonds, and have a portal to the nether. Oh yeah, and do you want access to the surface? Make a boat, put it directly under a 4X4 area that has water directly over it, get in the boat, break the blocks, and you'll shoot right up to the surface. From there you can swim all across the map without fear...only getting down would be tricky.
Oh yeah and for a sense of adventure, maybe make the spawn point a sunken ship.
I don't get how this would be a survival...
IRL, you would die a quarter of the way down.
irl u dont have floating dirt either ... :biggrin.gif:
Ya know.. I didn't think we had IRL either.. But the other night... as I was falling asleep.. I heard this SSSsss... Sound as I drifted off.. I woke up and could see in my neighbors bathroom.... Is that weird?
