Thanks to codewarrior for MCEdit, a wonderful tool.
I loved Survival Island, and I'm sure I'll love this too!
Downloading now; I'll edit this or post again when I have a standard base set up.
Once again, this looks AWESOME though!
And I see you incorporated the Treasure of the Lost Curator into this :tongue.gif:
Edit: First Impressions:
Geez, this place is HUGE. You can't even describe it; it's just immense. So many tunnels, so many caves - I practically got lost trying to find my way back to spawn to get that coal. But you need to try this map for yourself to truly see how enormous it is.
Contrasting this with Survival Island, the difficulty has definitely increased. Nearly every place away from a lava lake is dark, which means there's plenty of space for mobs to spawn. So of course, I was greeted by a few skeletons and a creeper. But you can actually use the lava lakes to your advantage; the skeletons walked right in them while shooting at me, and I lured the creeper into another. Actually got some bone meal that survived the lava, so I used that on a bit more wood.
Again, just looking at the surroundings, I was sort've surprised to see a "Sun", or sunlight coming through the top. So I grabbed a few blocks, went up there, and found a..nice surprise, let's say. I managed to use it for my advantage, and started working on it. And of course, I did the inevitable fall-through-a-hole and fell about 70 blocks down, and, obviously, died. Recovered most of my materials though, so it wasn't too big of a worry.
Still though, this map is AMAZING. I can tell it won't be based on how big your home is, or how many materials you have. This is an EXPLORING map, and I'm already in love with it. You did another great job, Ashien.
Well, this isn't what I was expecting for your next custom map, but after enjoying Survival Island so much I'll definitely download this when I get home from work.
So do the caves stretch all the way up to the top of the map? Also, I'm really hoping to stumble on a snow/ice cave.
Downloaded this map just a little while ago, so nothing photo worthy to share yet. Have to say tho, having a lot of fun. Been a while since Minecraft actually had me paranoid and watching my back every moment. :smile.gif: First impression is: Very cool and lots of fun.
nice map, but i would highly apreciate if you put a tree in it! it must have glitched and that one tree at the beggining never dropped a sapling. but really is there only one tree? im not mad i mean its still a good map and all but can you maybe do an update and put more than one tree please and thank you.
Hey guys, stopping in to show some of my progress so far. This map is amazing!
I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with the lake yet, but I found another huge underground lake also. The cave systems are huge beyond belief and I haven't felt this excited when spelunking in a while. You really brought the excitement back to Minecraft for me.
Also, if you dig around in the upper layers you will be presently surprised at the ore drops... I was!
Oh, and I found the Treasure of the Lost Curator! Very sneaky... very sneaky indeed!
Here is my cactus and tree farm so far. I'll probably expand them out later, but they work for now.
And here is the trap that I built around the skelly spawner.

Yes, the caves stretch all the way from the top to the bottom. There are no snow / ice caves, but I might add those in the next version.
So far, I went to explore the mysterious light from the ceiling, and found a nicely placed hole to my doom.
I made a drop trap for my skele spawner, and i'm finding it hard to leave the initial area.
But other than that
THIS IS FREKING AWESOME

I originally had a few trees, but everyone liked it better with just one. It makes it a bit more challenging.
I have another map that I'm working on though with a bunch of trees so be on the look out for it. Thanks for the feedback.
I didn't get any saplings from the first tree that I cut down, and had to re-install the map. I don't use bonemeal since it makes it too easy, but it really isn't all that hard once you get a sapling or two.

i got 5 saplings from the 1st tree but i planted them too close to the lava so when they all grew up they all got set on fire and i had to start over
What Map editor do you use do make these maps? I just love this. Underground.. Its my heaven <3 It just gets annoying when (on survival island also) when trees don't drop saplings.. :sad.gif:
Am I the only one pouring over the "cave map" image above hoping to find the spawn point? :smile.gif: Or any other point of reference...
Found a few things (resources/etc.) while exploring near-ish the spawn area. Was hoping to find some signs or placed chests... Alas, no luck so far. Went up to visit the light, and yes, digging around at the top layers yields some interesting finds. I dug into a very shallow cavern with a lava roof... Oh, and a passing cloud(!) scared the redstone out of me...

Good stuff!
That screenshot is just one of the systems in the 1200x1200 world. Including the one that encompasses the starting area, I believe there are ~30ish full cave systems.

Wow! Well, I've only been exploring "up" from spawn, so I know I have another jillion other places to go. Thank you for creating/posting this map! Any chance you'll post some additional spoilers/guide/hints?
My spawn's been over run with cows/pigs/sheep so now I'm working on keeping them away from my cactus/tree/reed/wheat farm. Then it's back to exploring!
