HEY- I was wondering if anyone could help... i'm doing a survival world for 1.8... and i thought- does the semi-automatic mushroom farm used in HE Training map still work in 1.8? or atleast the general idea?

As far as I remember the mushroom farm in that map, it seems it should still work. The biggest change as far as that goes is that mushroom stew is no longer the "wonder-food" it used to be. But the farm should still function.

I wander through CTM maps, getting lost, fighting monsters, and somehow accomplishing things. I'm never too sure how, but I do. Come join me, pets!
Before returning to the Rumbling Cave, I made sure to grab a water bucket, which got a reasonable amount of use clearing away the gravel out of my bridging path. Eventually I got over the tower next to the wool box, and I dived down the pillar of water. After a fairly tense encounter with some blazes, I managed to run back to the shore and, despite some fierce defense, I managed to run past it all, break through the glass and block the path back up. It was forward into Intersection 3 or bust. My first priority was to get to, and dig up, the shortcut back to the Blackened Library in Rattle-Bone crypts, the area that caused me no end of trouble the first time I played through the map. This time, thankfully, I have a computer that can run at more than 10 FPS. I restocked, grabbed Rockbane and, one run through the crypts again, going through one of the rows of crypts in search of the wool boxes, made it back to I3. The journey was short-lived, though, as I had to run back for a bucket, specifically, for lava. Back after another back and forth, I made it first to the first of two diamond veins. This is where Rockbane is so valuable, because without it, I would have gotten a total of ~30 or so diamonds. Not enough. Anyway, more digging and, after a bit of a problem with a hole letting cave spiders through and Ragefell's efficiency breaking the silverfish-infested stone, I managed to get to the second diamond vein and the Purple Wool. Finally, on my way back through Rattle-Bone I manage to find the Blue Wool in one of the crypts Back at the VM, I craft some diamond armor and place 5 pieces on the VM: The 3 resource blocks (Iron, Gold and Diamond) as well as the Purple and Blue wools. Now, only three remain, one in Rattle-bone Crypts, two in Black Heart Citadel. The final assault will begin soon...
Soon...
Wools Claimed:
All except Green, Red and Black.
Death Count:
1. 1) Point-blank Ender Crystal explosion.

Mushrooms are slow. Make sure it's dark enough, and be very patient. That's a big problem with mushroom farms in CTM maps; they take so long to grow they are no longer a real good option IMHO. BUT it would be a fun addition to a vanilla world.

Btw guys, veches said that he was going to make more maps like a month ago in his videos. Said something about working on them with the 1.9 updates, and not 1.8. So just you know, don't feel like super hostile is over yet.

Don't know what to build? Here is a "What should I build?" generator!
Thanks! I read that to spread, the light level has to be under 12... but 12 seems awfly high... also, it is slow... but spreading... the only problem is that only the brown mushrooms are growing, not the red
Edit: Nevermind! It's working perfect now! thanks for all your help

It was time to return to Intersection 3 and take on the final area. But, on my way back I stopped off in Rattle-Bone crypts to search for and (eventually) find the Green Wool, vindicating myself by beating this area with no deaths (Compared to last time where I died at least a dozen times here) Then, dumping off the green wool in the Black Heart Antechamber, it was off to Black Heart. Oh, right, I should mention that I disarmed the traps earlier, on my first visit to I3 (The cannon in the wall I broke the TNT, the disappearing floor I built another floor over it). Crossing the Black Heart Bridge, it was up to the Black Heart Ramparts where the resistance was fierce, but full diamond armor was fiercer. Eventually, the entire place was...well, I can't say conquered, more like "declawed", as there were dark patches where enemies could still spawn. Advancing through the Black Heart Library, the Black Heart Spider defenses and the Black Heart Upper Ramparts, clearing out, lighting up and destroying spawners along the way, eventually I got to the Black Heart Tower Stairs. This is where things went disastrously wrong. First, I check for blaze spawners under the stairs and find one. I break it, then climb up to the Black Heart Tower Entrance Layer. I proceed to clear out the base, albeit without some close calls. I notice that blazes started spawning and realize that there must be a second spawner under the stairs. I locate it, but while trying to break it, a skeleton spawns and shoots me off, right down to the Black Heart Tower Base. I had no Feather Falling. The fall was ~40 blocks long. Crack! After respawning, I knew I had to hurry to get my items back. I quickly crafted a new set of diamond armorand grab some miscellaneous supplies (Bow, sword, pick, Feather Falling boots (!!!) and the few golden apples that were stockpiled, in lieu of actual Fire Resistance. This turns out to be a mistake. Anyway, I rushed down to Black Heart and, while running through Rattle-Bone crypts, I eat one of my 4 golden apples at which point I learn that these are the nerfed apples, the ones that give 4 seconds of regeneration and that's it. Nevertheless, I make it to the Tower and, with Feather Falling this time, jump down to my items. This time I survived and was able to rearm myself properly. One quick pillar up to the Entrance Layer, it was time to assault the Black Heart Tower Roof where I find a trio of skeleton spawners. So that's where...anyway, after breaking them I look up at the Black Heart itself and decide that nope, I don't want to climb up and get shot off by the numerous skeleton spawners located on the ribbons. I go down, locate where I am more or less below the heart and start rapidly building an upwards pillar tunnel. With some stops for more bricks, I eventually make it up to, and grab, the Black Wool. Only red remains. I pillar down and make my way back to the Black Heart Tower. This time I enter it, break the spawners en route to the final fall, pop my last Fire Resistance potion (I used the other 2 in Black Heart Citadel proper, mostly as insurance against Blazes) and build down to the absolute bottom. The blaze and creeper forces down here didn't stand a chance and, soon enough, the Red Wool was mine. All that was left was a (more or less) uneventful journey back to the VM and...
(Bah, damn potion swirls obstructing the view)
Closing Comments:
I managed to vindicate myself and have a proper Spellbound Caverns experience. Last time I could barely run at 30 FPS, often dipping to 10 and occasionally under 1 FPS. Now I was able to beat the map proper and, while it was not a flawless run, it was a definite improvement over my old one. As for the map itself, I have nothing to say. It's more aggressive then previous maps when it comes to sheer spawner density at areas to take advantage of the improved armor and potions that came out before. All in all, while it isn't my favorite Super Hostile map, it's still a good one to play through.
Wools Gathered:
All of them.
Death Count:
2.
1) Point-blank Ender Crystal explosion.
2) Fall in Black Heart Citadel after getting shot off by a skeleton.
And with that, for now (hopefully not permanently) I am off.

It's dramatically less effective than it used to be - once giant mushrooms were added (in Beta 1.8, I believe), normal mushroom spread was nerfed so they'd stop spreading once a certain density was reached. As long as you restrict the area into which the mushrooms can spread and regularly harvest them, it should still work, but giant mushroom farming is much more effective (though you have to do it manually).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
After Sunburn Islands: Complete ALL the monuments! After obtaining 1 wool in Inferno Mines: Complete all the monuments?
Note that this is in Single-player, can't wait for my friend to get a laptop.
Definitely worth money, would pay 10$ just for Sunburn Islands! (The storage base makes me decide to go to dungeons with nothing so I can fill up the chests :p)
Lethamyr E wasn't too rage-inducing, but here's a tip to save a lot of time: Bring beds with you and set up camps at dungeons.
NOTE: I haven't actually beat Inferno Mines or Lethamyr. For the former I'm basing off the impressions I got for how far I got, the latter I haven't even posted. Plus, this isn't an exact difficulty order, just a rough estimate.

Does anyone know where I can download Vech's map Gift? The download link on Andrea Buchanan's website is broken.

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
Note: I've played almost all of them, all but the last three (halfway through Waking Up). I also like to rush in with a few torches, light up the area, die, repeat. (This is why Nightmare Realm is last... bed destroyed=game over). I also have played all of them on peaceful mode (cheating, but getting to know the map so I know what it is like). Side note: Infernal Sky II beaten in 8 episodes (about 30 minutes each). Beat that
Hey there great games - I'm playing the Legendary one right now, collected tons of stuff, chests and chests full. but am not sure what the goal is on this what is the goal please ?
Read the first page, and the signs in the starting area!
But if you're too lazy to do either of those things a CTM map is a map designed to have the player go through various environments and collect an objective to complete some sort of monument (CTM = Complete The Monument). In Legendary's case, the Victory Monument isn't available right off the bat and you need to do a bit of exploring before you find it. Vechs' Victory Monument consists of the 16 colored wool and the Iron, Gold, and Diamond Blocks. Most areas you go through should have a chest full of wool, and in Vechs' newer maps (Legendary is quite old) you'll find the wools in brick structures called Fleecy Boxes.
TL,DR: Fight mobs in different areas, collect wools to finish the Victory Monument

Lethamyr E wasn't too rage-inducing, but here's a tip to save a lot of time: Bring beds with you and set up camps at dungeons.
It's not an exact order, but a rough estimate:
Easy: Infernal Sky II, Sunburn Islands.
Easy-Medium: Sea of Flame II.
Medium: Spellbound Caves, Kaizo Caverns.
Medium-Hard: Waking Up, Legendary.
Hard: Nightmare Realm, Inferno Mines.
NOTE: I haven't actually beat Inferno Mines or Lethamyr. For the former I'm basing off the impressions I got for how far I got, the latter I haven't even posted. Plus, this isn't an exact difficulty order, just a rough estimate.

I'd switch Inferno Mines and Waking Up

(In order from easiest to hardest)
1. Sunburn Island
2. Kaizo Caverns
3. Spellbound Caves
4. Sea of Flame II
5. Infernal Sky II
6. Lethamyr (mostly because it's very random and the continent is massive. I don't recommend it, though. It is very repetitive).
7. Inferno Mines
8. Waking Up
9. Nightmare Realm
Note: This is just my opinion, but I'm pretty sure most people agree on the order of the last three maps and the first map.
In other words:
Sunburn Islands is the easiest, the top 3 hardest are Inferno Mines, Waking Up, and Nightmare Realm.
Also, play the maps in the intended version on the mindcrack page:
http://superhostile.mindcracklp.com/
Have fun.
I would say:
Infernal Sky II
Spellbound Caves
Lethamyr
Sunburn Islands
Sea of Flames II
Kaizo Caverns
Inferno Mines
Legendary
Waking Up
Nightmare Realm
Note: I've played almost all of them, all but the last three (halfway through Waking Up). I also like to rush in with a few torches, light up the area, die, repeat. Not me but:
16 minutes 23 seconds
