I went and created a custom adventure-type map, and I think its ready enough to be played in mass. This is my first attempt at anything like this, so be nice :smile.gif:
Be sure to read the ReadMe and Rules before playing Don't cheat.
Map has:
-Traps!
-Dungeons!
-Puzzles!
-Secrets! 5 hidden chests with diamond gear tucked away along the "path" of the game. (and a very satisfying noise will signal when you find one)
-A story (made with .txt files) that gives you hints/maps to the next area of interest.
-Platforming!
-Plenty of monsters and good times.
The few people that play tested said it took them around 2 hours to finish the map and locate all the secret chests. If you take the time to play through, I'd love any feed back and comments you guys have about the map. Too hard/easy? Sections you don't like? Sections you loved? How long it took you to beat, ect.ect
Enjoy.
Short teaser of the first few minutes:
and some pics!

Nice, I'd love to play through it right now! Unfortunately I must sleep now ... But I'll try to play it tomorrow, and I'll tell you how it goes!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Hello? Eat my tarts? In this cosmic dance of bursting decadence, withheld permissions twist all our arms collectively. But if sweetness can win- and it can- then I'll still be here tomorrow to high five you yesterday my friend. Peace.
That was quite good for your first Adventure map. I really liked following the maps and reading the notes outside of the game. That was something completely original as far as I know. The Orc camp was a highlight as well, following the craters and then getting shot by arrows was really fun. The destroyed cabin looked great as well.
I didn't really understand the redstone puzzle. It seemed that no matter what switch I pressed, nothing seemed to happen in the redstone area of the room. Maybe put another note or just a couple of sign's explaining what to do cause I was kinda lost at that part.
The Diamond part at the end was kind of a ******* move but it looked spectacular.
All in all, I had a fun time playing it, and for your first adventure map, you are miles ahead of a lot of other people. 7.5/10 Great work.
^^ Might want to look around the Pyramid a little bit more. The hint you want for the switches is subtle, but there. :smile.gif:
Bump with some more previous player impressions:
Just finished it. It was a lot of fun, and I love how you made a real adventure out of it instead of just throwing the player in a dungeon. Please make more! -Vertigus
My god, I just tried that adventure pack. It's easy to see that you put a lot of time and effort into it.
take the diamond. go on, it's not like it's cursed or anything.
...thank you for making this. I will reiterate and say this is the most fun I've had in minecraft since building my first fort -blackmage795
It was really fun to go through...! This is a concept I'd love to see take off. -dyzzy
And a very short teaser...
Please give my map a shot and leave some feedback :smile.gif:
Looking good there!
However, there's a rule alot of people handle: 'pictures or it didn't happen'.
Those are mostly the people that pee in their pants, fearing for virussus on each single thing, but ofcoarse there are other reasons: People want to know what they download.
Sure, they know it's some piramid adventure map, but with pictures they can see what it looks like.
As for making pictures:
-Make pics of diffrent things and aspects of the map. Don't make multiple pictures of one thing, there's no use for that.
-Make pictures of the things that look the best of the entire map.
Follow that, and people will go all "Whoa, looks nice! I'm gonna download!" instead of "Omg no pics it's a viruz!" or "What the picture shows me doesn't look anything good. I don't see much else too. Nah, not going to download." or "Trolololo random flame because this looks like ****".
Eh I don't think it's TOO hard. I could see somen getting into trouble if too many creepers spawn. Honestly if you are really having a hard time just set it on easy, I won't mind.
The jingle wasn't too hard to wire up, just 8 note blocks with some delay circuits. Once I made it work I made a schematic and copied & pasted it to all the secrets on the map. Most of them are wired to an unseen lever thats attached to a dirt block, and when the player digs through the block, the lever stops providing power. Hook that up to an inverter and the signal runs through the note block and plays the sound.
I can post the MCedit Schematic if anyone wants it. But please don't laugh at my awful wiring job.
Just played through it and I must say this is one of my favorites. The notes and maps were a great idea that I honestly wouldnt have thought to use myself. And you implemented their use superbly. Though there werent as many puzzles as I would have liked, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I look forward to playing any more adventures you might make in the future.
Thanks gents :smile.gif: Glad you liked it. I think I'm going to start building my second map tonight. Don't expect it any time soon though: I've got plans. Big plans.
