Just figured out how to speed the launch process for minecraft with forge 100x (ok, maybe not that much but it will *feel* like it XD)
What usually hangs the launcher up after installing forge is the grabbing libraries stage. It can take *forEVER*, just to try and download files you already have. Well, no more! Using this method you'll be cruising along fast again in no time.
Open your forge modded ~/.minecraft/version/'s json file, open it in your favorite text editor and change it to look like this
See that line "serverreq": false, ? this is the magic. What it does is tell the launcher to not download the libraries, and it gets you right to the game very very fast comparatively. Its very important that you do this right, however. The .json file type has a certain syntax that *must* be obeyed! Or else all hell will break loose!
The only caveat is that since they are local files they won't get updated all the time, but you can keep an unmodded version of Forge-1.6.2 and run it from time to time to get new libs.
Enjoy getting to your minecraft quicker, I know I do
You managed to decompile and continue without me giving source code? O_O Bro, you are a god. Of course do whatever the [REDACTED] you want!!!! Good luck on it

Ok, on macs it's very simple too. Go to system prefrences > sharing> and enable web sharing. Next, click on "Open computer website folder" and put your libraries stuff in there. Tada

This only works for macs i think, because terminal is for macs. And in cmd the sudo command isnt a thing, i also tried windows powershell, doesnt work either.
Just got confirmation that this method can be done easily for windows/mac/linux, without installing packages/software. Modding the json file is enough!

Yeah, I specifically said that the details were for ubuntu, but installing apache will make it work. But, as noted above, you don't need extra stuff to make it work, just the url line. Also, linux has terminal as well.

Yes, Window's command prompt is different and I don't think sudo exist on it.
Already been noted, and has been stated that it is not needed. Furthermore the first post detailed that it was ubuntu-specific, but could be modded for other OS's/distros.
Try adding the "url": "http://127.0.0.1/" lines to your json and see if you don't get 4x or higher launch speed.

It is OK I don't use forge but if I do i'll try and keep this topic in mind

Heh, it would speed up even non-forge profile, lol. I just put it forge in the title because adding forge to minecraft 1.6.2 slows launch quite alot more than normal mc. but even vanilla mc has many external libraries it tries to redownload at each and every play, even if the library is already up to date.

Can u put clearer windows instructions? This topic does not teach anything about how to install in WIndows, just makes users use roundabout ways in order to figure out what they need. It shouldn't have Windows in the title if there are no clearer instructions than current one.
