I'm trying to make an electric-powered minecart, but it isn't working. I've read everything I can find, but still don't have an answer. My set up is very simple with a redstone-torch, a switch, and then rails.
Does anyone know why this doesn't work?

Using Java 32 bit does not stop minecraft from crashing!
I'm not sure what boosting has to do with it. Everything that I've read links minecarts, toggles (switches), and power. Just like toggling a door open or closed with a switch. From what I've read a minecart can be activated with a switch.
No, you can power rails, which makes the rails change direction, but you can't make the minecarts move with redstone. Trust me, I've spent many hours making minecart tracks.

You can't make electrically-powered devices on a large scale? Even something that's just one-way movement? Heck, I have an electric train-set somewhere in my basement. That seems like a huge oversight. Like HUGE. No offense to Notch or anyone else.

Wow, you're not too bright.
Take a look at how long ago these things were posted.
Last year, eh?
I was playing Minecraft at that time, too, and powered rails did NOT exist then.
*Sigh*

As has been suggested: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Booster

http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Elect ... ed_Devices says "You can still have the wiring power the rail directly." Which I take to mean that you can power a rail (and thus a cart) with electricity.
