I have a HP Pavilion dv6 notebook and every time I go to play minecraft the AMD Radeon graphics driver stops responding after about a minute of playing and then the Java SE Binary crashes.
My specs are:
6 gigs ram
2.2 ghz 2nd generation i7 quad core Processor (turbo boost up to 3.1 ghz)
750 gig HD
AMD radeon 6770M graphics card
Built in intel HD graphics
Switchable graphics is on "fixed" to maximize the performance of minecraft because if its on dynamic minecraft always lags but never crashes (it only gets about 10 fps)
I've only had this computer for about a month. Its brand new. Everything is up to date, I am using a 64 bit machine and I am using 64 bit java. On switchable graphics "fixed" from the bios menu the game is getting over 70 fps at most points, still though after about a minute of playing the game freezes, the AMD graphics driver stops responding and then minecraft crashes/stops working. Please help.
I've found a way around it, thanks to http://leshcat.blogspot.com.au/ , this person's made some updated drivers called unifl (for combo graphics cards like ours) that are up to date. Once I installed this, following all the directions, no more crashes.

Do it at your own risk tho.
So I've been having this problem since I got the laptop around christmas time. And it saddened me that HP didn't provide updated drivers for their notebooks, seeing as you can't really get the switchable graphics drivers from AMD or Intel. So I lived without Minecraft for a while on my laptop. But I eventually really wanted to play when I'm other places. So I saw this thread and tried the drivers quoted above. And I must say that it did allow me to play Minecraft. However there are a few things I'd like to point out.
- After installation, I found that Vsync didn't work, no matter what setting I had it on, or what setting I had it on in game (not just Minecraft), it didn't work. But I can live with a visual tearing.
- With the original drivers, I could play Skyrim on all fulls with the best anti-aliasing, etc etc, no problem. With the new ones, Vsync doesn't work, so there's a little tearing, and if I leave anti-aliasing on, I get severe pixellation in Skyrim. But it is easily fixed by turning it off.
- The last thing, and possibly the most important, was how hot my laptop now gets when playing any game. I'm a big Heroes of Newerth player, and I found that my laptop almost hit boiling point mid game, everytime. Now, take into consideration, I was running it on fulls and it was running with minor hiccups, so take it for what it is.
So, all in all, I believe the drivers to be stable and relatively safe to use. Depending on how much I actually decide to play minecraft on this laptop, I may revert to the old ones to be able to better play Skyrim and perhaps other games. Also, I found the laptop to run a little cooler on the older/official drivers. One more thing I should note, on the older driver, I would be able to play HL2 games on fulls, but eventually the laptop would get really hot and crash the game. With these newer/unofficial/different ones, I can play any HL2 game on fulls for an extended period of time with minor hiccups and no crashing. I think I would recommend these for someone who's looking to get the most performance out of this lappy for gaming, I would just warn you to take breaks and/or get a cooling pad. When I saw my CPU and 6770m almost hit 90C, I started to cringe. Oh and I guess I wouldn't use these other drivers if you play Skyrim and need to have all that stuff enabled. I hope some of this info helps people with this problem.

I've tried 32 and 64 bit java (not sure if it's actually USING them tho), and different settings in game. I have a feeling it's HP's drivers.
