Q. OMG HOW DO I KNOW MY APP NUMBER!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
A. Relax, its easy. Just go here, click the application you wish to know the number of, and the number in the URL is your application number. At the moment it will most likely be 4 digits.
Q. Why hasn't my app been processed yet?
A. Be patient, it can take a while to process your app and hundreds of others.
Q. How long will it take to process my app?
A. Depends on your app number. If youre in the current batch, 1-4 weeks, but unlikely to be 4.
Q. Aww, declined. WHY WONT YOU ANYONE OR ME WHY!!!
A. Think about how hard the admins work to do this and how much applicants there are. It would be impossible to tell everyone why.
Q. I just realized my app wasnt great so I sent a new one. Will they pay attention to the old one?
A. No, the mods/admins only pay attention to your latest app.
Q. I just edited my app and it sent another one. HELP!!!!!
A. Relax, that is a system glitch and will probably be fixed
Q. What do I do if I'm denied?
A. Unless you know for sure why (which is unlikely), think about it, report, stuff like that, and try again after a month or 2 later
Q. I only have [INSERT POST NUMBER HERE] posts. Will that affect my chance?
A. No, it won't, Quality > Quantity
Q. Will age affect my chance?
A. No, as the OP says, they have mods who are 12 and mods who are 50
Q. Any advice?
A. The best advice is to be honest, be yourself, and dont lie about any of the questions.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!
PS. I'm normally going to post this every so often and include new Q's and A's
Well... Some people write applications like: "I will be good moderator, I promise! Please accept me" - with 100 errors in a few words.
And yeah that's also true, If you will say that you won't give that or that guy a moderator because he is not suitable for this then there is 80% of chances that he will flame on forums...
Advice for people who write moderator application:
- Write long and meaningful application.
The admins say size doesnt mater, but meaningful might, again, this comes in handy:
Short concise and most dense with information will make it easier on the admins. Long and verbose apps just makes you look like you want the job more but may provide no more useful information. You might as well make it easier on the admins and yourself and keep it simple and to the point.
Like everyone has said, application length and post count does not matter. Your application doesn't have to be a page long, and you don't have to have 2000 posts.
My advice to all of you is this: Answer the questions in the application truthfully and adequately. Tell them exactly why you want the position. If that requires you to write a full page, go for it! But, if it requires 2 sentences, do that too. Don't try to add extra information in to make it look better. The Admins aren't judging you on your ability to write an essay or who posts the most, they're looking for who want to help, are willing to help, and will make the best impact on the community.

I meant lucky as in small chance of becoming moderator(I guess)
Anybody has a chance of becoming a Moderator if their application is straight forward, clear, and sensible. Just keep on contributing to the community (help other people, report members that are breaking the rules etc.). As long as you can prove you deserve to be a Moderator, you will be sure to become one.

Well, I think about bad things more than good things, so expect "lucky" from me a lot.
There's no chance there's no luck. Its just performance.
Try to get mod with a bad app and bad history is like trying to buy a car with 5 bucks. You will not buy that car.
Trying to get a mod with a good app and good rep is like trying to buy a car with 100k bucks. The dealer would be stupid to deny.
Its a simple, set in stone criteria (although it may not be that clear). If your good, your gonna get it.

It's okay as long as you smile at the world, the world will be sure to smile back. (Got that phrase from a book)
