So the mods seem to be ignoring this thread now, even though today there were about 10 threads moved out of the misleading "support" section (which seems to be about or even less inactive than Software Discussion and Support was) and nearly all the regulars are against it.
Just one more reason that I love the moderating team here.
General Support is HD&S and SD&P merged into a single section.
I can find threads from April 23rd, 5 days ago, on the front page.
It is not a very active section, but it is definitely better than having two separate dead sections, one of them exclusive to Build Threads (HD&S).
The segregation of the C&T board now is just in pure dismay, for I have watched it for a few days now.
If you want to really organize that place to a cleaner layout, this is how I would say.
Prevent any posting in main area for Computer & Technology, but create sub boards instead. Computer & Technology > Computer Building > Hardware Support > Software Support > Technology Information & News
> General Computer & Technology Support
Problems all solved.
Like I said above, this new structure looks good, but would not work.
The C&T section is not extremely active and does not have a lot of traffic to have 5 separate sections.
Again, Hardware and Software are together for this reason.
The purpose of the new structure, other than providing a cleaner layout, is to make it easier for users to browse the place.
One thing we noted after the structure: Build Threads are taking over the main section.
They used to stay in HD&S and spam the place, and now they're flooding C&T.
Perhaps, we could create a new subforum for > Computer Building, in order to keep the other 2 sections clean.

Those in italics are just examples, however I seemed to forgot to note that, but the support one however is just a better name revise to current "General Support".
The board may not be active, but organization still does no harm in any to avoid confusion.
A sub forum or child board for Computer Building is fairly required as it is easy saw that is a problem with build threads. Hardware and Software are best together, thread tags do not exist for nothing really if one chooses to use those to further declare their thread topic.
General Support is fine, but the name of "General Computer & Technology Support" would best suit it, without being overly complex or too long named.
But simple said, just a board for Computer Building will best most beneficial sub forum.
Oh, and for note, when I say sub board, is just a sub forum, not a child board at most. Old habits I have from Simple Machines days.

Actually, inactivity is harmful, especially for content that only needs to be viewed to be helpful. I could easily split M&M into a dozen of extra topics for organization, but it'd only make threads receive less views because X didn't happen to be browsing that section and see a topic name that interested them.
If you want a specific example: I made a section for reviewers in the M&M section. It was almost universally wanted, requested, and after a few weeks of watching threads related to reviews get traffic I decided it might be a good idea. Threads barely got any views except for by people requesting their content be reviewed. Those threads struggled in the normal sections, but basically died in a section made for them.
Someone may not be specifically looking for a thread, but happen to see one titled similar to an interest of theirs and decide to read more, or see a similar issue and find out how someone else fixed it.

Not entirely what I meant though. C&T never was too well organized with where does threads go ideal. But there sure is tons of computer building threads. So having those orderly put into their little sub forum would be quite easy flowing on the eyes since they are most active (not purely, but majority wise) threads in C&T. Such should not affect nothing in a bad way, but will help keep the mass majority of the ignored threads be visible for once; instead being buried by computer building threads without technically changing anything.
I get what you mean, though here it would be help exhume those that are buried alive. Or to say help alive non computer building threads get seen more often instead being buried by computer building threads that are best fit to their own sub forum given the mass number of them. This is something that has plagued C&T always. While computer building threads are normally always active, they are plenty of other non computer building threads that are as well. Activity should not be affected by such small change.

Well, I don't browse the section in question, so I really can't provide any specific insight besides an example of splitting a section into too specific of a category basically making it unread except by a very small community. Ultimately, it's up to the admin on what goes on for the section, but just understand that if a section is too specific it does cause problems, even if it is more organized.
Edit: Just looking at the section, I don't see why it needs to be split even more. Maybe at best enforce tagging, but right now there is a 30 hour gap between last posts on the first and last post of the front page of Computers & Technology. Why does that need to be made even slower? General support is by far slower, having a multi-day last post range. What benefit would be gained by making mods have 5 sections instead of 2 to look at when it already takes more than a day to remove something from the front page?

Primarily my reason for suggesting a dedicated sub forum for Computer Builds. As this is what you mostly see in there and nothing else because it gets pushed back and never saw or chances really to get on front page often.
If this is done, then general support has no purpose and there can be just the main forum which is Hardware, Software and General Support all in one, then a sub forum just for Computer Builds.
Less splitting really and more friendly to allow lesser viewed threads be seen that otherwise are buried by Computer Building threads.

Assuming this current range is normal, there is a 30 hour window on the front page if no one posts in the thread at all. If no one is responding within a day and a half, how would segregating rarely viewed threads into a section that doesn't seem like it'd receive much traffic help? How would them being on the first page help more than them already being on the first page for 24+ hours?
If the lesser viewed threads are all put into a section which is then not viewed by many people, it isn't actually going to help anything. They're better off in a section that gets some random traffic and have the potential of being viewed by someone who may not be a regular than being put in a section that would only be viewed by a few regulars.

I just have good feelings it is more easy flowing this way. I would not judge those neglected threads to their doom if I did not have good feelings they would be better this way. Since I know several when they can post on the Computer Building threads only. Right now it seems dead lately but this is how it is sometimes.
Those who find joy in answering Computer Building threads, can easy find them if they were in their own sub forum. The other threads can then have space to be on front page that are active.
I see what you mean though and it is very reasonable. Though I believe it will be fine given the amount of time I have spent in there.

The main problem I'm seeing is it may end up only being those people who enjoy answering them actually browsing the section.
As originally stated, all my assumptions are based off of a single glace into the section, so I wouldn't use my statements as a basis for whether your suggestion is actually good or bad for it, but just pointing out what could be problematic and what I looked at when I was an admin.
If you still think your suggestion is good, then so be it, I'm really not in much position to disagree nor do I think your suggestion is necessarily bad either.

At moment I have to use your assumptions as some form of a counter to my own hypothesis assumptions of the good to come from combining General Support, Software and Hardware into one and making a sub forum for Computer Building. No one else really to disagree yet otherwise besides Koumus' reply, but that is to the old design that I had thought up, but this one here seems much better. Since simply renaming General Support to Computer Building and well that is all really.
But it is just a suggestion really and nothing more really. Simply going off the fact there is far more often Computer Building threads then any other thread. Putting Hardware, Software and General Support all into one would allow them to be hopefully more active. Computer Building should not be affected at all.

I think the one thing you are missing out, is that we aren't a "Computers and Technology forum" This is the Minecraft Forums, home to the forums of Minecraft. OT isn't priority here for many people here hence why the slow topics, we don't need so many sub-forums because we aren't here to talk about computers 24/7. Hell, the whole OT isn't required because there are many forums elsewhere which do these topics MUCH better.
Computers should really be 1 forum and that's it but having two forums is cleaner topic wise, one forum for support and one forum for discussion. Nothing else is required as that is all that is needed. If you want a more dedicated forum for computers, there are plently out there. Especially all the subreddits there are.

I am not even sure what you are talking about. Users tend to not like being shoved elsewhere to get support for their PC just to play a PC game the forums are about.
All I am saying is suggestion about renaming General Support sub forum for Computer & Technology to Computer Building and just let the main parent forum Computer & Technology be for General Support, Hardware and Software discussions.

This is more specifically aimed at the ones going here for overall support. While we have a great userbase knowledge, there are places with more knowledge and information which we can benefit from instead of here. (reminds me, I need a new motherboard.) I totally agree it's nice to have this section for support and builds as I learnt so much about computers from here, including my first build but it doesn't mean we require such a big section for it.
The "General Support" is in most need of a name change. Most of us agree here and it still confuses me what exactly we can post there. As I've seen topics about builds moved from "General Support" which I think it should go.
General Support should be renamed Hardware/Software Support which will cover any bugs, errors, help required and build helps. (Make sure to mention builds in the sub-forum description.
General Support could use a name change possibly, but other than that, it's okay. It's a little inactive, but it still gets more activity than some of the forums in the Minecraft support section. The only issue is that C&T is getting flooded with build/upgrades/specs threads.
So how about changing the name of 'General Support' to 'Hardware & Software Support' as well as a new sub-forum for all the 'will this laptop run minecraft', 'is this a good graphics card' type threads, and of course, build threads? Basically like a computer build forum, but a little more broad. I'm not sure what we'd name the sub-forum, maybe something like 'Computer Builds & Hardware Advice'.
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but what happened to the stickied thread that had the template people could fill out when requesting builds? It's very useful to have, but I can't find it anywhere now.
Removed/unstickied, because apparently all previous sticky threads were useless and never read. Just like the majority of MCF sticky threads.
Just like how it would be ultimately useful to have an mirror link thread to the How to create and post an DXDiag for C&T main forum front. Since DXDiag logs can help get a clear understand of many things most users are not really literate to understand and find and post otherwise.

So much can be improved, but so much not care.
tbh, I think the format one was probably the one most read AND used. I noticed many people using the format and if not, after it was requested, they did it.
