At the very least, I too would like to see the name changed to "Hardware/Software Support" as Budgeh mentioned.
Exactly what I was thinking. So you have the main section, and merge Software and Hardware, which shouldn't cause too many problems due to software support not being the most active place on the face of the earth.

But the entire point of the main section was for things that can't be put in either hardware or software. Doing that would make duplicate sections.
I'd just like to point out that instead of asking for feedback from the community on making this change, the forum staff made a change that is clearly not agreed with by most of the regulars, and are now choosing to argue with the community instead of actually listening to them.
Hilariously enough this change will probably create more work for the moderators rather than less.
SeaWry and some of the older regulars spent a ton of time on creating a nice organized guide on computers and computer building. It was stickied and was very useful to a lot of people for a long time. http://www.minecraft...nowledge-guide/
Even though FM87 eventually removed the navigation links in the OP, it was still quite useful.
With the new structure, that thread is no longer in the stickies and was replaced by the less important "Post your Desktop Wallpaper" and "Speedtest.net Results and General Internet connection and ISP Discussion" thread.
That thread being unpinned was actually a separate thing from this. A little while before this restructure, we went through all the OT sections to review their pinned topics.
If some of you think that topic should be revisited, feel free to make a topic about it in this section, but this topic is for discussing the forum section changes.

I have a GREAT idea! Let's unpin the most useful pinned topic in this section that answers most of the questions asked!
I am absolutely sure that this change will NOT reduce the number of threads popping up in the main section related to support questions.
QFT
With Hardware and the main section there to collect all the "How's My Build?" flotsam, it was trivial to find interesting topics in the Software section.
Are we going to keep a topic pinned after the OP is edited to say
Except it is not irrelevant. There and topics which could be answered by reading that thread, such as the headphone section. People come looking for advice on which to get, and are usually given one off of that list. There are also a lot of new users just blindly picking parts. If they read that thread, they might actually give decent suggestions.
If having the first post like that really concerns you, just turn it into a table of contents with a link to each post.

The problem is, nobody even looked at that thread. Most of the traffic for it came from regulars that already knew what they were doing and just wanted to discuss ways to further improve upon the thread. It quickly became apparent that it wouldn't be used and there was the problem that it needed to be updated periodically. Nobody is around anymore that would be willing to keep the thread alive and updated because the majority of the previous members just left that section for dead after it continually fell apart over time.
To be honest, there's no point in even having that thread pinned anymore since it gets so little use.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.

"This thread doesn't get enough people looking at it. Let's unpin it so less people view it!"

That's kind of the point? The whole point of pinning threads is so threads that receive lots of attention are easily found. Why pin a thread that nobody looks at?

From experience: The people who most need to read stickies are also the ones who are the least likely to read or even notice them.
So many issues on the forum could be avoided if people actually read things properly, some even post things in completely the wrong section even when the section title obviously says the topic is irrelevant to it. Stickies are just not a solution unfortunately.
For that particular thread, there is nothing stopping you updating it and re-posting it.

What I'm saying is that unpinning it doesn't make more people view it.

Actually, there are a few things stopping me and other users of the forum. If there was nothing then it would have been updated.
1. The old thread isn't really outdated. Sure, some of the suggestions have newer versions out, etc. but is it really worth re-writing an entire thread just because of a few outdated suggestions?
2. So few people actually read the stickies that re-writing one is not worth it, especially if it's not really that outdated.
The list goes on, but I can't think of any more right now. Either way, it's not worth updating since the changes would be minimal.
What I'm saying is that unpinning it doesn't make more people view it.
And I'm just saying that pinning it doesn't make more people view it. We used to have another pinned thread titled "HOW TO POST IN THIS FORUM" made by Quatroking that was very informative and clearly laid out the rules for the Computers & Technology section. That thread was made three years ago, yet we have had countless threads made where the OP clearly never read those rules. Just because you have a thread pinned, doesn't make it seem anymore important to most people. The majority of people here just come to post their problem and get it fixed as quickly as possible. They don't care enough to read rules before posting.

The pinned ones don't get read much either. New people won't read them because all they want to do is make a topic asking something already said in a pinned topic. They didn't come to read the pins.
What about Science getting a whole new section. I hear bad things about PPN.
I think Computers used to be in there and all topic turned into a political war.
(Though I could see Science fitting in there)

Science it self doesn't have enough content to it. I think it's new home is as good as it will get as it's in there with the "current events".
Science is something that doesn't usually turn into wars. Hell 4chan even had a proper functioning chat that wasn't half swear words and other obscene stuff about space elevators.
From experience: The people who most need to read stickies are also the ones who are the least likely to read or even notice them.
This is primarily the most correct thing here on the Sticky Thread subject. My point was while that general computer information thread was hard up written under coordination; it was in vain anyway and we all knew that. We just did it for the effort and just to have something to do. We made pun jokes of how poorly viewed it was in IM chats, so it is nothing of great loss. More less severely outdated information on some of the sections.
The segregation of the C&T board now is just in pure dismay, for I have watched it for a few days now.
If you want to really organize that place to a cleaner layout, this is how I would say.
Prevent any posting in main area for Computer & Technology, but create sub boards instead. Computer & Technology > Computer Building > Hardware Support > Software Support > Technology Information & News
> General Computer & Technology Support
Problems all solved.
A sticky thread that needs to be on each and every Computer & Technology sub boards, mainly for Computer Building, Hardware Support, Software Support and if need General Computer & Technology Support.
How to post your DXDiag log file.Cortesy of cestislife
While this is not usable for OSX (Mac) or Linux Distros, it helps solving window's problem a lot more easy as well giving better responses.
Hilariously enough this change will probably create more work for the moderators rather than less.

This. Just this. So much.
To add to this, not 100% sure if this is possible but if a pop-up notification similar to infraction notices could be displayed upon entering the section for the first time, reminding users to read the stickies before posting a thread, that would cut down on a lot of unnecessary community and moderator work.
So the mods seem to be ignoring this thread now, even though today there were about 10 threads moved out of the misleading "support" section (which seems to be about or even less inactive than Software Discussion and Support was) and nearly all the regulars are against it.
Just one more reason that I love the moderating team here.
