If you ask me, these forums have no sense of humor.
NO meme posting
NO funny pictures
NO replying to SPAM
NO insults whatsoever
NO cursing towards other members
I mean come on... I know some of the rules are for the safety of people's feelings and to keep the forums clean of stupid spam, but the point that you can't even post a single picture for humor and you get a warning on your account is idiotic.
I took a break from Minecraft and started playing BF3 and let me say, their forums are full of humorous posts and pictures, and nobody seems to have a problem with that. I don't know why anyone would. I see no reason why I cannot post A SINGLE BBCODED .GIF like this
on a topic.
It makes no sense to me. These forums are just so drab without any colorful images or text images like such
I disagree entirely. First of all, you actually want people to be able to insult and curse at members with no repercussions? Because that's insane, and it certainly has nothing to do with humor. Second, if you're just going to post meme pictures all day, what's the point of even posting? It's annoying and, frankly, rather stupid. Third, if you absolutely need insults and memes to have fun, then...I mean, wow. I can't say much else besides that.
Plus, as far as I know, you can post memes and "funny pictures"...you just have to include some words with it too.
Yeah i totally agree with you, all those points that you listed are in all the other forums i go on.
The only reason i go on this is because its minecraft.
But i do think there needs to also be a serious side of the forums as well.
Meme posting is pretty much posting spam - they aren't funny after the first time. If no one posted anything but memes, this forum would soon get boring.
No funny pictures - this isn't even a rule.
No replying to spam means don't reply to spam bots or general spam which is of no relevance - all replying does is bump the post and make it more difficult for moderators to handle.
The entire rules stem from "be nice" so no. Insulting is not allowed, and I can't see why anyone would want it allowed. I certainly wouldn't want to visit a forum where insulting (which would lead to flame wars) happened all the time.
Again, cursing towards members - it's essentially just insulting them. There's no polite way to curse at someone, and therefore it's not allowed.
If you're posting nothing but an image, it's essentially spam since you have nothing to add to discussion. We're a discussion forum, not a spam forum. If you want to include an image with text, go nuts.
Because troll calling and calling someone stupid are both insulting. Again, I'd rather not come to a forum where I'd just get insulted.
No funny pictures must be a rule because I got suspended for posting this in a post I wrote
It's all a matter of opinion here, but every single time I post any picture on any topic... BOOM warning. This is the only topic I haven't, most likely because the moderators on this section aren't going around warning players for BS
Sent Yesterday, 03:09 AM Seargant1000, you have received an infraction for Meme posting. This is a 1 point infraction that will expire on 04 August 2012 - 01:09 AM.
Hello Seargant1000
You have received an official board warning for an infraction of the forum rules.
Topic: Throwing Knifes
Infringement: Meme post
Post in question:
Spoiler
Please do not post gifs of memes in threads unless it is specifically needed. This is considered a one word post or a meme post. Please make sure to review the rules before posting again.
If you receive another formal warning and another warning point, your account will receive a posting restriction for 3 days. Your warning level will decrease by 1 after 30 days.
You seem to understand here why some of these things are against the rules. However, part of your dislike for the forums may come from a simple misunderstanding. It is not against the rules to post funny images or memes. It is against the rules if they are the only thing in your post. Add a simple sentence on topic and you'll be fine.
But of course images containing VERY rude content would be removed and the poster would recieve a warning
And of course, all of the other rules apply to the post. There is a rule against TL;DR, for example. Because if you didn't even read the post (and have nothing to add), why respond?
Almost sure I will receive another warning even though you say that if I say something be/after the image, I will be safe from being accused of meme posting... Suspension in 3. 2. 1.
There are laws. You get punished if you break them. Why are there laws? So the U.S. isn’t a bunch of crazy people naked throwing bombs everywhere. Why do you get punished? So that you don’t do an illegal activity anymore.
Now, he is asking for freedom, such as being able to throw bombs everywhere and shoot guns naked. However, it will offend other people, and he doesn’t care. Why does he want more freedom? Because he his limited. However, as said, it will offend other people, and he doesn’t care.
If you put it into a more real-life sorta situation, it’ll probably be more reasonable.
I see your point, yet I also see the Admin team's point. This is more of a matter of if the forums are "funny" than if the forums are fun themselves. Just saying.
Admin team, I understand that for the sake of feelings and "spam-freeness", there is a reason for warnings.
I see how other members say no because memes are insulting and stuff and should not be allowed.
In conclusion I just want to say that if you really want to have some fun, go to the game forums or whatever it's called. Also, does it really take 3 people from the Admin team to set 1 guy straight? Many times humour is made to make a point. I know because I use humour to make a point. But if you misuse humour to make a point of how stupid someone is and then start "trolololing" him/her, I don't want you on these forums. I want to bring the attention of the game forums again. Those forums a lot of times don't even have a proper discussion. So are these really 100% discussion forums? I vote yes for humour but no if is used severely against someone. (ie: "yo Steve's so stupid. He fell into a pond of lava. Ha ha! Steve, you're so $@?&ing stupid! Go die. BWAHAHAHAH)
Meme posting/image posting is only against the rules if there is nothing else to your post or the meme breaks other rules (such as troll calling or the meme is off-topic/meant to derail the thread).
Personally, I find memes annoying. There might be the occasional instance that a meme is funny, but then there are a million copies of that meme posted over the internet. Would you go to a comedy show where one guy tells the same joke one million times? I'd be surprised if I made it five minutes before wanting a refund, yet on the internet that same thing seems worshiped.
Beyond that, we're trying to make the largest number of people happy. Most people can live without reposting the same garbage on every post without it annoying them, but the people that hate memes would find it severely annoying to see hundreds of memes every day.
So you want to post memes or images? Be on topic as well and we wont care, if you can't be bothered to post your own thoughts on a thread, be slightly lazier and don't bother posting on that thread at all.

It's hard to follow your dreams when you run from your nightmares. --
The forum rules are in place for a reason. As Hazali mentioned, it's not fun if you come back to your thread in which you asked for help, only to find it's devolved into a meme war or a discussion revolving around different sorts of hats.
It is possible to have fun on the MCF without the excessive use of images that have gone viral over the internet and are barely amusing in the first place. I spend hours on these forums every day, manage to have a great time, and I do it all without coming close to a rule infraction. Memes are simply a form of immature humor, they rarely lead to productive conversations, and usually end up as spam.
The OP complains about the fact that insulting other members counts as an infraction. I'll be honest here: Insulting and flaming other members is in no way fun for anyone involved. If you find it amusing to flame someone who might not have made the most accurate or intelligent question or statement, so be it. Even people who support the OP's claims that the rules against insulting should be repealed can admit that being teased, insulted, or flamed is in not at all amusing.
1. No meme posting or funny pictures.
You are allowed to include memes or funny pictures, it's just that you need to add text to explain how it relates to the thread.
2. No replying to spambots.
Spambots are already a big problem on the forum. If you reply to them, it makes it harder for the spambots to be controlled and deleted.
3. No insulting/cursing other members.
If this wasn't a rule, the MC Forums would erupt into flame wars. We don't want that. In fact, when a member gets flamed, they get really upset.
(Oh gosh, I'm probably going to get warned for this. Before the warning comes, here's what I'll say: "I'm sorry.")

As for sense of humor... I'm no comedian myself, but I've seen plenty of funny posts here. Even staff take the opportunity to let loose once in a while.

Even replying with a one word post gets you suspended for seven days.
Example:
OP: HAI GUYS WELCOME TO MY THREAD U LIKE IT?
Me: No.
SUSPENDED. And yet the guy who made the stupid thread did not get punished.
Another example:
OP: I just made a cool mod!
Me: [Youtube video of M. Bison saying Yes! Yes!]
SUSPENDED.
My point is, you are right, and I agree with you.
(I just know I'm going to be suspended for posting this.)
Sheesh, people. Ever heard of free speech?
