Remember when we switched from PHPBB to IPB? Nearly everybody complained, and basically everything was wrong. And now the layout changes, and people complain again. Not because the design is wrong, just because the design is different;
In a few months, I'm sure you'll see that the software has had some neat upgrades.
One thing that I don't like, though, is that the font size is hardly consistent, which looks messy. Those 'latest news' articles are nice, but they don't have to be that huge.
As a software engineer by trade, I get that the UI changes came with the new framework and that software has to update eventually, and in the end I think that the new layout is much more intuitive and well laid out. The complaints come from old users that have used the same UI since before Curse even ran the site, and are trying to readjust.
However, I do have one complaint. The "Hot Topic" and "poll" and such logos to the left of the thread names have been removed and replaced with a button for going to the first unread post, and I miss them as it is a pain to have to look at the number of posts on each thread to see how popular a thread is. And also the fact that .gif avatars are broken, as I loved my Nyan Cat avatar to death and now it's just a broken image.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Random acts of petty fanboyish hatred?
Everything in profile feed is posted by the member now, it felt odd for the fact that i had rage about me being a faggot posted by me.
Now how odd is that.
1. The black bar. Please for goodness sake keep in mind that you're not Facebook. (Actually FB looks better. Ahem) It's okay to me.
2. The insy winsy avatars. We don't have telescopes affixed to our eyes. I heard they're going to be fixed soon (at least 24 hours to be specific).
3. The dumping of the classic BBCode reply window layout. I hate Arial. Which is why this is in Georgia. There's the 'toggle editing mode', but only if you're fine with raw BBCodes
4. The dumping of the lava buckets for hot topics. Today I glanced at the chat thread and thought I'd went blind. The Chat Thread, new? Haven't seen that
5. The adding of the avatar beside the last poster's name. By the way all my pictures come up as broken ones on this computer. Some do, here, too. As I said, I hope they're fixed sooner or later.
6. The enormous space that the 'latest news articles' (unless that isn't permanent) and the pinned threads take up. Oh yeah, because we're blind and can't see them at all. You could at least ignore them...
7. The enlarging of the overall forum font. The forum would look nicer if the font wasn't so much like a kindergarten kid's type-out. Ctrl [plus] (minus sign). I can't think of another way.
8. No thingy-ma-jig to switch back to the old layout. That should've been added when the old layout was applied. This is the base for the 3.2 already, there's no way switching back to the old one
9. The crowding of buttons, words, pictures and links. If you didn't try to crowd so many things into one page my eyes would've suited better to it. Where?
10. Switching photos to avatars. Also the 'set avatar' option is gone. As I said, it's merged.
11. The reply window keeps switching back to the front of the sentence at random interval. Mine's when you're pressing Backspace to delete stuff.
12. The switching of the profile settings and things like that to the black bar. ??
13. Making Notifications more obvious by putting them on the black bar, too. And no, that isn't a good thing for me. I thought it is, already.
Overall, I'm neutral on it (although I stated I 'liked' it on Twitter, that's when I have zero knowledge). I only hated the fact that you can't switch from 20PPP to 50PPP, but eh, well.

Oh yeah, I also hated that there are no 'transparency' anymore for the avis but I don't know.

I'm leaving the forum, if anyone cared. You can find me on OC or FFR.
It's too large, I need to zoom out a bit every time I visit this place otherwise my eyes will start to hurt.
Also, the upper bar is too laggy in my browser, so sometimes it completely craps it's css code and bugs the whole damn thing.
A revert button would be nice.
The other thing, much more annoying, is:
I just got used to the forum layout and it's functions.
This happens all the damn time. Whenever I get to know some nice functions and know where my towel on this forum is, it is changed. Happened too many times, already. Now I'm lost again and I feel like a 2-dimensional being lost in a 3-dimensional maze.
Unfortunately the new format isn't optional for anyone. The base IPB 3.2 software changes it from 3.1 and we needed to update from 3.1 to fix the mountain of errors (like My Content not working properly). So it's either a buggy slow forum with the old UI or a fast forum with a new UI. You can't have your cake and eat it too...
This was my reaction. There was nothing wrong with the previous version.
Oh. That makes sense! Because of the search function ( which actually worked ) we shall **** up everything else! Great idea!
Constant 502s, 500, no data received, BBCode breaking, HTML breaking, posts inside of posts, posts extending into signatures, and this is just the recent stuff. 3.1 didn't work and everything was starting to break. There are probably a dozen threads on the last few pages yelling at us to fix things.
phpBB search didn't work. It broke constantly and had to be removed many times.
IPB search and my content constantly broke in 3.1.
3.2 should help fix a lot of problems.
Not to mention IPS was abandoning support for IPB 3.1 in favor of 3.2, and things would just keep going downhill with the site from there.
Don't like all that space at the top of the page. It seems like a waste of space. Plus that helpful little menu in the bottom right for navigating to different sections has gone. :S
On the navbar to the right of the "View New Content" button is the "Quick Navigation" button which serves a similar purpose

Not sure what you mean by the space, perhaps the ad area? As for the thing in the bottom right (which I never noticed when it was there) sounds like the new thing at the top right, the 'Quick navigation' thing
Psychic edit: Ninja'd by Jefe! That's a cool feature though, I like how it alerts you to new posts whilst you're making one

Let's be clear, phpBB had a faster UI and the search bug was because of the * character causing issues, when it was whitelisted it worked fine until some idiot started abusing it again. And yeah, there were a LOT of other issues with phpBB, most people don't remember how bad the spam was, and how unstable it was because of that search issue.
As for the rest of it, I agree.
My only remaining grievances with the update are the bugs outlined in a previous post of mine, the disabled BBcode buttons in the editor when in non-visual mode and the nerfed settings panel. Everything else I don't mind too badly, although I'm still adjusting to the new theme.

As far as the UI goes, I dont really care, I visit this site for the users content and not for how big an avatar is. Accurate and usable search is a high priority for me. However, the most important thing to me above all else, is being able to view the site quickly, meaning fast loading pages and no 502/503 w/e errors. Mmo-champion, owned by curse as well, seems to have a lot of trafic, useable search, and never have I gotten a message about overloaded backend servers.
I am leaning towards don't like. I can't find my Watched Topics and the Recent Topics replacement wasn't needed. Not to mention that my profile pic is my avatar pic and my avatar pic is my profile pic.

That's a bug, it's been noted and will be fixed.

At least no one has a blank 'profile pic' anymore.
But yeah, I dislike it in a way.

phpBB was a nightmare. People seem to forget we were lacking things like the search function...

Plus it's slower.

It's hard to follow your dreams when you run from your nightmares. --
I may go give IPS my word if it's so.
Thank you.
I hope they return it in 3.3 or whatever comes next.
I'll still go follow it up anyway.

Thanks, I just did so.

I think it's also on a different forum software
Registered users as a whole is probably quite irrelevent, its simultaneous users that probably truely matters.
