Well, I mean some of these threads have some points but they are being really stupid. They just use no common sense, continuously go off topic, use horrible grammar, troll others, etc.
Both trolling and derailing are against the rules, so you can report that.
But for your first example, the last part of my point still applies. As for the grammar... I hate to say it, but you'll have to deal with it. You can point it out if you do it nicely, but don't insist and most of all don't attack them about it. It never leads anywhere but down the road of flaming and spoils the thread even further.

My main concern is just people using incorrect grammar and spelling.
Inproper thread:
hai guyz com and chek out mah channl, click mi linc. c//noob//desktop//myretardedvideo
That, and when people are plain f*gs and I cant report them for doing it. There is no rule against being mean, although there is a swearing rule so I could walk into a thread and be like "Yeah, up yours too pal'. Thats not wut your mom said last night. Problem?".
Proper Thread:
Hey guys, I made this cool video. You should check it out. youtube.com//watch//videoid
Edit: Another thing that bothers me is when people post texture pack threads or map downloads without pictures or a download link. I can only report them for having no pics :/
so, posting a topic raging about stupid people isn't stupid? hmmmm.....
Wow. Let me guess your age. Nine? I'm not raging. I'm making a statement. I'm trying to prevent stupid posts on these forums, and actually help it get better. What have you done for these forums, sir? Hhhhm. Answer that question. It is also funny how it took you like five minutes to post that little sentence. Whenever you type, your name gets set into itallics. Well, you would not know that because you did not follow rule #1.
I'm trying to prevent stupid posts on these forums, and actually help it get better.
But do you really think you're going to accomplish this with a thread, or by any other means? Isn't posting a thread about what should be common sense kind of stupid, in which case it is breaking its own rules?
Most stupid stuff already falls under various other rules, like shairn said. From where I'm standing it looks like you are just pointing out the obvious in an attempt to gain popularity and rep. (Whether that was the intention or not, it seems to be working.)
This is why a number of the forum's earliest members left in favor of a dark, reclusive hole in the internet whose name and location I cannot and have no desire to divulge here. Barring a few petty disputes which arose in its infancy, the place is a haven where we do not have to deal with such baffling inconveniences as outright stupidity.
I truly wish more people could enjoy it. I am sorry, however, that they cannot.
I agree with Crontic, but I must emphasize the futility of the cause at hand. As long as there is a medium where anonymity may meet exhibition, much foolishness must be endured. An impasse is observed.
EDIT:

It's a shame. There cannot be found a single exemplar of innocence in this conflict or any preceding it. This is, nearly to my dismay, why I must remove myself from it.

Yeah, but honestly just because many people post stupid stuff here, I'd like it more if you guys stayed, you guys were the 1st generation, you shouldn't have left...
Anyways, Crontic I agree with you, these past few weeks have been so, I don't know the word for it but unpleasant because of how many people have left due to this, and I'm getting really bugged.
I'm afraid that these forum aren't the way they used to be.
I used to moderate these forums a while ago, before the extermination (And later, the reviving) of the Chat thread. I was booted from the team because I was also a member of the place AI had mentioned, and the team assumed that I would spy on their adminny discussions (paranoid buggers.) In that time, I've been thinking of the natural cycle of forums that I can think of. It's cool at the start, everyone is friends, but as soon as things start becoming more popular, more heads butt, and then such an air of unkindness and hostility is made.
So far, this is exactly what has happened to MCF. Stupidity is a given if it's a website on the internet, but the way it has been handled here is... well, dissapointing. Sorry, mod team, I needed to say it. I was a member of you guys a while ago, and I think it's fair that I give criticism.
I fully support you, Crontic, though using less harsh language would be appreciated.

I am NOT going to see friend requests, so stop sending them.
We probably would've stayed, but the Administration went and alienated us be closing our little community down.
Yeah, pretty much this. Instead of really discussing anything with us, they just kinda shut the chat thread down and then we left after a bit of squabble. Then, later, they allow chat threads...?
Ahem, anyways, a bit off topic, Dig, even if First Generation posters do know what's up.

Of course there is stupid people on the forum. This is the internet, and what's the use trying to stop it? That's like trying to make everyone in the world stop using drugs, people will obviously still do it. Despite my shitty simile.

The point of the thread, as I take it, is to encourage LESS stupidity. I've used the tactic before, and it's rather effective in my opinion. You start mixing in more professional and intelligent posts to counteract the opposite, and soon it's almost as if you're peer pressuring posters to amp up the quality before posting.
Of course, there is always a few rotten eggs, and it takes discipline not to react poorly to them, but with time, I (almost) sincerely believe there is a [ghost of a/poor/fat/decent, you choose] chance that we'll have a better environment on MCF.

Considering it's handled right, you know.
You know, you don't need mod powers to make a constructive, pertinent post or to simply ignore a thread that you don't believe warrants a response.

But you do need mod powers to encourage the making of constructive, pertinent posts as well as the ignoring of threads that they don't believe warrants a response. Right now, it does not seem like this is happening too often.

How do you suggest that be done?
Again, I'd like to add that you shouldn't need an orange name for people to listen to you when you tell them to make constructive posts, especially when it's already in the rules.

For some time before our exodus, you needed moderator powers to not get punished for suggesting reform.

You really shouldn't, but we know that your voice becomes infinitely more important as soon as you do.
Yep. I see so much stupid. But this game is geared towards kids, and kids aren't going to automatically be super smart. Help them learn, grow, nurish them... oh wait, that's what moms do. Oh well.
