Because a moderator agreed with a regular poster? Is that the whole issue, then? Because I have this feeling that it is totally the issue.
"Oh, noes! A poster said something sensible, and a moderator agreed with him! WHATEVER SHALL WE DO NOW!?"
I mean, by this point, I can make no other conclusions. It can, literally, be the only reason you guys are so strongly in favour of having the rules followed to the letter.
The issue was that this topic was in the wrong section and a moderator let it slide (and endorsed it) because he thought it will make his volunteer job easier. Bypassing the protocol for rules and announcements.
Admins and moderators are people too, not everything they say is always gospel, that's not at all the issue. Obviously moderators want to contribute to discussion as well. But there's responsibility in being a moderator, part of which means following the rules.

FINE... I've moved this now to another area......
now watch just how little members will actually read and take this on board.. because its no longer in the area the topic was written about...
why the hell do i care... its obvoius a lot don't.. so long as they can get their precous mods and flame others
You don't need to read the rules to be bound by them. Keep on dealing with the individual problems as they come up and push for the quick submission of an official rule posting if you actually care. : )
Don't just give up and ridicule the community you volunteered to help.

the thing is that my decision as a moderator meant absolutly nothing to some people..(even though other moderators backed me up .. in both private and in public) those are the type of people that keep on getting warnings and temportary bans.. because it's not what they wanted and goes against them... they think they've won.. because now there nothing that they have to look at in their faces every time they go into their mods area reminding them how they should be behaving.
I WILL be posting a sticky.. in every day english.. (not noterised or as formal as the rules) and i'll be stating everything that i've stated in this message . as an open stickied global announcement where it WILL be an ongoing discussion ON ALL THREADS .. as it is necessary for community envolvement and discussions on all these things. this site is here as a community hall.. and everyone is expected to behave appropriatly. We shouldn't need bouncers at the doors or walking around to kick people out. not to the extent there is on this site, I've run many sites and forums before and this one is by far the rudest most uncaring lot of flamers that i've seen in the 20+ years i've been involved with on the internet. and its Western societys fault. not many respect each other.. they all try to put each other down so that they are at the top. but guess what.. at the top of a dung heap your still in a dung heap
we need to change it from a dung heap to a medow where things and respect can grow, where your not worried about how your going to get flamed because you did/said something
no matter how many admins or moderators we have .. its never going to be enough untill we can get the majority of the ACTIVE members caring what happens here .. they have to change and become more respectfull of themselves and others
It received a rather positive response (ignoring the opposing argument)
Fixed that for you :wink.gif:

why do you or I care? for all the people who support the idea and for all the modders and members who have already left due to a hostile environment.
Because its for the better, i completely agree with a post like this being posted officially as a global annoucement, as its not just the released mods subforum that has these problems. There are always going to be trolls and flamewars, the best thing to do is to hit back authoritatively and let them know that this kind of behaviour will not stand. Not to make passive aggressive remarks when someone calls you out. As someone helpfully posted the definition earlier, that's pretty close to trolling in of itself.
The problem is the sheer amount of trolling and flaming going on, the solution is to create a clear definition of it so that moderator activity does not cause more fuss than it dealt with. Moderators need to act quickly to remove offending content before it sparks more of it, to do this they need to know the rules and to have an agreeable definition of what constitutes what instead of only acting on what gets reported and what the moderator takes personal issue with.
When this comes to dealing with certain re-offenders perhaps things need to be run a little harsher. The tools are there for the moderators to use.

I completely support it. Even if the moderation/admin team decide that something drastic like: "This week we'll be quick-banning anyone who trolls or flames for 24 hours without an appeal, this is the end of the line for members of the community who think they have the right to be disrespectful to other community members"
I'll support it because its an effort made by the moderation team to combat one of the biggest problems plaguing the boards right now. (Plus it would be an interesting experiment to see how the boards look without it!)
........wow.
THE POINT IS.... Dont be mean to other people's work. if you dont like it, say what can be improved not what sucks. if something is in the wrong forum or section kindly tell them unless its spam then just tell the poster something stupid and troll the hell outta his topic.
A stupid question will recieve a stupid answer
as for this topic, yeah the moderator was kind of in the wrong for refusing to move this topic to the correct section until tons of people asked him to.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
i love creepers
I was drunk. Then I did salvia.
And I ended up on my kitchen floor crying and hyperventilating because the cereal box monsters were going to get me
if something is in the wrong forum or section kindly tell them unless its spam then just tell the poster something stupid and troll the hell outta his topic.
no. thats taking the inforcing of the rules onto yourself
eg: if someones posted in the wrong area then just report it (stating what area you think it sould go into, preferably provide a link to the topic as well where you think it should go ). we'll move it
If you want to post something then carry on as though it was in the right thread / area then when we move / merge the posts they'll look as though nothing had happened.
(apart from the mod edit message warning them and telling them of the incured consequence where applicable as decided by a staff member)
If its spam or any other broken rule, please just hit the report and state what rule you think they've broken
by typing in a responce you could get a warning too.. as it could be taken as a flame , also it means that we have to edit/delete your post to get rid of it if we are moving it to another area, or edit it to get rid of a quote or reference to their message or it'll look silly
ANY responce they get from you will FEED them and make them want to do more of the same or worse retaliate siting that you were in the wrong.
I have been a bit soft myself on posters.. not any more.. I don't care if the warnings are in the same post, made straight after one another.. they'll all be dealt with according to the rules
Changes I'd like to see in the rules:
I'd like to see added "Ignorance of the rules is no excuse and will not be accepted, by posting in the forums you've agreed to obide by them" (meaning that youve read and accepted them)
I'd like to change the rule about swearing to not allowed at all and also about slang words too not being allowed eg: frikking a , noob , etc... as we have non english speaking members and members that are only kids. they should not be reading stuff like this on these forums.
I'd also like to see the bans need to be increased 2nd warning should be 7 days, 3rd warning 1 month
I'd also like to see any thread that's not had a reply in 3 months, should be deemed dead and locked
Because there ARE so many Threads / Posts made daily there is no way that even triple the number of moderators could read them all as quick as they are posted we need people to use the report system and not take matters into their own hands , they need to just report and ignore. If some slip through the net (remember we are all only human.. even moderators / admins) they should just be ignored if they have been reported.
No these aren't knee jerk reactions they are what I've placed on many forums I've run in the past
these are just my thoughts, not necessarily what other staff members think

For sure, the thread is dead.
It received a rather positive response (ignoring the whole "wrong forum" discussion)
