Following the launch of the new consolidated Minecraft game (also known as the Better Together Update), we have restructured the Minecraft Forum categories to better reflect the various versions of Minecraft. Mojang have officially designated non-Minecraft versions of the game as "Editions", for example, "Minecraft: Java Edition", and "Minecraft: Xbox One Edition". You can learn more about this change to Minecraft in this article. This forum structure update clarifies which category applies to which version of the game.
4. A new category, Minecraft: Editions, has been created. This category contains a forum for each Edition of Minecraft, except for Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Pocket Edition which continue to have their own categories due to their popularity.
5. Each Minecraft: Edition forum has been consolidated, instead of separate "Suggestions", "Recent Updates" and "Discussion" forums there is now a single "Discussion" forum for each edition where members can discuss all aspects of the game; current, future and ideas. Additionally, each Edition category contains a Multiplayer forum.
These changes should not have an impact on the way most members use the forum, however if you are not sure where you should post please take a look at the following information:
If you would like to discuss Minecraft: Java Edition, visit the first forum category, Minecraft: Java Edition.
If you would like to discuss the new Minecraft game, which is cross-platform and available on Xbox One, Windows 10, VR, Mobile and soon Nintendo Switch, visit the Minecraft category.
If you would like to discuss the old editions of Minecraft, such as the Xbox 360 Edition, or the Playstation 4 Edition, visit the Minecraft: Editions forum.
Please use this thread to share any questions you have about this change, or send me a Private Message. Thank you for your understanding
This announcement will be removed on December 31st 2017.

Does MCPE still exist as a separate product, different from how, for example, Minecraft: Xbox One Edition does - as an obsolete, but still playable game?
Put another way, won't all of the active MCPE players, assuming they keep their game updated, be on the "Minecraft"/Better Together version from now on? If I play Minecraft on a mobile device, which is the correct forum to use, MCPE only if I didn't accept the update, and "Minecraft" otherwise?
It's very possible I misunderstand how all the versions shook out with the BT update...

My understanding is that all mobile copies of Minecraft: Pocket Edition will update to the new Minecraft assuming players do not choose to block the update. However, I am not completely clear on whether or not this will prevent people from accessing the old Pocket Edition game, therefore at this time, I am leaving the Pocket Edition forum in place because it is a significant part of the forum. If it becomes clear that the old Pocket Edition is no longer used by many players because everybody chooses to update their game, meaning activity in that forum category shrinks substantially, then the Pocket Edition forum will be moved down into the Editions category with the other Editions. Sorry, I don't have a more concrete answer!
Since the Better Together Update, Xbox One is joined into the Bedrock Edition. So, all Xbox One forums are under the category "Minecraft Pocket Edition".
I sincerely hope that they can change the word "Pocket Edition" to "Bedrock Edition" since it is now unified and an official name for Pocket, Win 10 and Xbox One.
I'm confused; where should an Xbox 1 user (on the current version) be asking for support? I thought the "unmodified minecraft support" perhaps, because their "main section" is just called "Minecraft:", but that can't be right because there's no mods. That's presumably for java, because there is no section in support for "Minecraft:Java edition" (although that's where the other stuff for that version is).
Surely they don't post under "Minecraft: Xbox 1"? Because that'd be different from the main sections where xbox 1 refers to the older versions?
Who's on first?
The support category will be undergoing some changes, including consolidating the 2 different support forums for Java edition (clients), meaning "Unmodified Minecraft Client Support" and "Modded Client Support" will become "Minecraft: Java Edition Support". Due to a large number of threads, this may take a few days to happen.
Although the new Minecraft game is functionally the same across multiple platforms (mobile, xbox etc.) there is still the possibility that a player will have an issue specific to their platform, therefore if someone needs support they will navigate to the forum for their device. For example, if you are playing on Xbox One, you will navigate to the Support > Minecraft Xbox One Support forum. I will be removing "Edition" from the current support forum names to make this more clear.

There is no such thing as "Bedrock Edition" so we will not be using that name. Bedrock is the name of the underlying platform used by the cross-platform Minecraft game. The game built on the Bedrock platform is called Minecraft and that is the name we are using, you can find the Minecraft forum here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft
The Pocket Edition forum, as mentioned here, will most likely be moved into the Editions category in the near future.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Modded minecraft is a completely different thing; more different (from "java") than bedrock is.
Those are two of the most active areas on this entire forum, and there is an absolute, clear distinction between modded and unmodified. Merging them will make 1 single forum huge and a mixture of two totally different types of request.; a great many people use only unmodified, and have absolutely no interest in modded, and vice-versa; the challenges, the knowledge, the skillsets and the questions are completely different.
The reason to have separate forums is to make it easier for people who browse the forum to find threads that are relevant to them, however, in the case of Minecraft: Java Edition support, having the separate forums causes confusion amongst people posting about their support issues, we are regularly moving threads to the right support forum. The forum has a prefix system which we will enable to allow people to specify if their thread relates to a modded copy of Minecraft: Java Edition, or an unmodified Minecraft: Java Edition, and this can be used by people browsing the forum to determine if the thread is relevant to their area of expertise which is the only reason to have separate forums. Furthermore, although the Minecraft: Java Edition support forums are active, they are receiving single-digit new threads per day, so while this will increase the number of threads in one forum it will still be less than one new page of threads per day.
If you must make this change, for example to distinguish if you are talking about Minecraft In PC or Xbox360, I leave my support to continue updating the forum
Indeed, there is no version called Bedrock Edition. I have seached it. There is only Minecraft:Java Edition, Legacy Console Edition and Minecraft(Bedrock).
What about changing the Pocket Edition to either "Minecraft" or "Minecraft(Bedrock)"?
I noticed that version prefixes for mods and such were removed recently. Why is that? Doesn't it make it harder to look for mods that support a specific version?

That's certainly not intentional! Which forum/category are you seeing this issue in?
I don't care about separation of forums. Curse: come work with us. Ugh... Get a more appropriate name. Although the work Curse may indicate some kine of free expression, there is no choice in Minecraft Better Together. Yes, I may wish to curse on this matter, but I do not wish for my grandchildren to be exposed to Curse or Fantasy Violence as options. Even if I screen and want what they have to offer. I am somewhat fed up with Microsoft, Xbox after 3 days of chaos in Minecraft. What I may have tolerated before, because I could screen and control what showed up, somewhat, on my 4 laptops on which my grandchildren play, is now in chaos. And I am no longer Riverboat1234, due to Better Together, which should be the Worst, beyond for better or worse, yes WORST. I have two new Riverboat identities, due to Better Together mayhem, and getting stuck as Riverboat 1234 in a forever endless loop, on my main laptop. Unfortunately, Microsoft is in pandemonium and hopefully, with time (how much time?) that mess will be resolved.
I noticed missing prefixes tags in "Mapping and Modding: Java Edition" category and forums like "Minecraft Mods".
Thank you -- I'm unsure what happened, but I have fixed it, you should now be able to use prefixes again in the Mapping and Modding: Java Edition forums. Thank you for your patience.

Yeah! How is it non-Minecraft? I would understand it isn't Windows 10 edition, but Java Edition is still Minecraft :/
"Minecraft" is the name of what we know as the Better Together Update. Minecraft is available on Xbox One, Windows 10, Android, iOS and VR.
Minecraft: Java Edition is not the "Minecraft" game. Yes, Minecraft: Java Edition is still a version of Minecraft but it isn't the primary version, therefore it is "non-Minecraft".
So you're telling me I'm no longer playing Minecraft, because of some marketing bull?
How extremely rude, to tell me that "Minecraft" - the game I've loved for 7 years - is "non-Minecraft".
Do you think that the movie "A New Hope" is not star-wars, because it was renamed later? Would you tell a star-wars fan that that movie isn't a star-wars movie?
Try telling them that it's not the primary version too.
I am not arguing my opinion, I am stating how Mojang have organised the various versions of Minecraft. This thread is specifically regarding the restructuring of the forum, it is not regarding any decision made by Mojang or Microsoft. Please get in touch with Mojang or Microsoft directly if you'd like to discuss the naming of the game, or use a relevant thread on this forum if you'd like to discuss it with other players.
Minecraft refers both to the game in general and a specific version of the game, the cross-platform version available on xbox one, windows 10, android, ios and vr. For a forum that intends to use the language used by Mojang it is incorrect for us to say "Minecraft" when referring to "Minecraft: Java Edition", hence in this context "Minecraft: Java Edition" is not Minecraft. The reason I was using bold (Minecraft vs. Minecraft) in my earlier posts was to differentiate between Minecraft (the brand) and Minecraft (the cross-platform version), I apologise if this was not clear.
