I've been playing minecraft on and off since early beta phase. I came back after a long hiatus, and I'm enjoying a decent singleplayer map. I've almost done everything I set out to do, but I'm having problems with making maps.
The way I remember it, the center of the map = where you are standing when you activate it, or view it for the first time. The first time I viewed my first map of the game world, my physical location at creation was midway between the map center, and the southwest corner. Map center was about a 2 minute swim into the ocean - north east of where I assembled and actived the map..
I was confused, but I figured maybe, if I enlarge the map with another 8 papers, I'll see enough territory to help me out. The new map was 75% blank - only thing illustrated was the south east corner, and the cursor illustrating my position was not in the map. I wasn't that far from where I created the first map. I figure either I'm bugged, or there is a new mechanic in map creation that isn't on the wiki at all, because I have examined it in great detail, and haven't found anything that explains the seemingly arbitrary placement of map center.
So can someone link me to a decent page or thread explaining how maps work? Because the wiki isn't helping me at all. Maybe I'm bugged. Something seems off. But I'm not having fun with this instance anymore.
EDIT
Never mind. Kept searching and I figured it out. Mods have my permission to delete the thread. I really think maps that center on the creation point make alot more sense. But what can ya do?
