(All I'm refering to are Zombies, Skeletons, and spiders)
Spawn conditions: (Correct me if this is wrong)
WON'T SPAWN - within 24 blocks of player OR at light level >=8 OR 128+ blocks away from player OR on transparent blocks
WILL SPAWN - 24-128 blocks (radius - cube) from player AND require light level of <=7 AND 2+ air blocks above the block they spawn on (This means there is a 256 by 256 area that mobs spawn)
Just to Clarify:
The 128 blocks away from player DOES count diagonal, meaning this is in the shape of a cube, not a sphere.
Mobs are aware of you if you are within 16 blocks. This means that spiders can sense you THROUGH WALLS and may clog up your grinder if you don't take care of them outside of this range. Other mobs however CANNOT sense you through walls, not even transparent blocks.
Mobs will spawn within 128 blocks from a player in ONE direction, correct? So 128 is the radius, not the diameter.
Things I'm unsure of or just want to clarify/verify:
Mobs won't spawn within 24 blocks? Somewhere I heard/read it was 16 now.
And does this no-spawn area include diagonals? Is it spherical or cubed?
Mobs spawn within the entire chunk vertically regardless of distance? Or does this same 128 limit apply?
Max amount of mobs?
Max amount of friendly?
Original post:
So, I want an exact list of mob spawn conditions, if anyone out there actually knows them.
From the info I've looked at it seems the most I could find was that they won't spawn within 16 blocks of you, and they spawn roughly within 126 blocks.
But, I want the exact numbers and such.
Mobs spawn 16-126 blocks away? How does vertical factor into this.
Is this counting corners, or is it a radius?
The reason I ask, is I want to design the most efficient mob grinder I can design, without going and pulling one from the web. But, I need to know these things to make it work.
So, if I built a grinder from Y 1-256, would they spawn all the way up and down, or does it simply do 126 within player range, or what.....

Someone intelligible please respond.
First of all, mobs will spawn at any distance greater than 24 blocks from a player, but will instantly despawn if there's no player within 128 blocks, making the effective spawn range from 24 to 128 blocks from a player. I believe that this range is cube-shaped, not spherical, with the player at the center of the cube.
So, that means that there's a cube with sides equal to 49 blocks centered at the player where mobs won't spawn, and they will spawn anywhere within a cube with sides equal to 257 blocks centered at the player (note that the block the player is in counts as a block for the cube's sides).
So, if you build a mob tower from y=0 to y=256 (which is impossible, unless you use nether portals to clear out the bedrock), mobs will spawn in most of it, or all of it if you're at least 25 blocks away from the edge of the spawning structure.

Linking 45 minutes of video does me no good. The first thing I see when i click the first video is Minecraft 1.0
I want up to date info, I know things have changed since 1.0
Give me solid info, and back up your facts with a wiki or something, but plz, no videos unless it's maybe 3 minutes and really does cover everything. But it must be up to date.
