I have an idea for a minecraft game which combined both real-time strategy games like Age of Empires and Warcraft III with first person elements (A lot like Natural Selection 2) but due to my poor talent for actually physically making stuff I imagine, my low creative patience, and simply lack of available time due to how busy I am I wanted to post this here to see if someone could help me with it.
Game does not have a name yet and suggestions are welcomed.
Summary
The game is a team game (likely going to be at least a 10 v 10 game though I suppose it could work with smaller numbers) where both teams start on either side of a large map with but a town center and a set of plots around it. Your team can spawn as either workers or militia initially to gather resources or defend your side. Workers can then use the plots to construct different buildings to help your team. Your team gathers resources such as gold, wood, stone, and iron to building structures, train units, and upgrade them both.
Just like the players, buildings have health and the goal is to destroy the opposing team's Town Center.
Gameplay
Teams are selected in a lobby by choosing a side (Red or Blue). They then are teleported to a team lobby where they can select their unit type (starting unit types are only worker, which gathers resources and builds structures, and militia, which is the most basic unit used for combat in-game). Units cost a certain amount of resources (both team's start with a specific amount of gold, wood, stone, and iron) and once a class is selected and the amount of resources is paid, the player spawns as said type of unit at it's corresponding building (Workers and Militia at Town Center, Infantry at Barracks, Cavalry at Stables, etc.). Players then work as a team to gather resources, build infrastructure, and defeat the opposing team.
The no-man's land between the two teams is filled with resources, mob spawners, and traders as well as plots for frontier outposts either team can claim. It is also used as a place for strategic movement to get the jump on your opponent.
Buildings built on plots can be upgraded and upgrading a Town Center advances a team in Age. Unit receive upgrades from certain buildings as well (namely enchants or automatic permanent buffs).
Ideas for Gameplay
I was thinking that maybe workers, while gathering resources, store said resource in their inventory and if killed those resources could be picked up by another unit. Resources, in order for a team to use them, must be taken back to the Town Center to be deposited in a chest to be counted.
I hope at some point to add in selectable civilizations the teams can choose from which add a unique traits for the team as well as change the team's appearance in terms of structures and armor (Kinda like Civilization or Age of Empires)
I hope to be able to add in hero units eventually into the mix as well that can be chosen if the team has a specific resource (Kinda like Warcraft III and War of the Rings)
Thinking of having both bases set up much like games like Evony though without the insane wait for building time for structures like a library, barracks, or simple walls.
Difficulties with the Game
Need a large amount of people to make it an effective game
Said people need communication to operate effectively which can be slightly difficult via text (Though can be solved via selecting a leader of the team).
A lot of technicalities in making the game and likely a difficult build
Likely a very long game to play
Despite all this I think it would be a fun game to play. Unfortunately due to me being in the Navy and other reasons I am unable to do so. I'd really like some help. Please reply if you are willing to do so or just to give me feedback on the game. It's still in development and any ideas are welcomed to be shared and discussed.
