I'm sure there have been previous threads regarding this but I am curious to other peoples opinions nonetheless.
I have only been playing Minecraft on and off for a while now, and have recently upgraded to v1.0.0 from BETA v1.7.3. I have then, as a result, been introduced to a number of new features including the new swamp and forest biomes. I can say with a lot of confidence that I now strongly believe the minecraft world is ugly. The seed/world I had been playing when I made the transition of my game version has now almost completely lost its vibrance. I think the addition of new grass blocks have played the major role in this, but I am still trying to figure out all the details.
What are your thoughts on why the game world become so ugly since previous updates?
I miss Alpha. That was the best Minecraft version. The terrain looked so good and natural. Forest stretched out like oceans, mountains were higher, steeper...

When I'm sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead.
Their = Possession There = Place They're = They are. LEARN IT.
To be honest, I like the new looks more than the old ones. The only graphical change that saddened me was the loss of the fluorescent-green grass from alpha, but I'm over it.
you just updated to 1.0... why not 1.1 if you're skipping so many versions anyway? 1.0 was a dud in that notch/jeb forgot to reimplement hills and mountains throughout forest and desert biomes, but fixed it for 1.1. i don't like the swamp biome, either, but the climbable and rolling hills are much more natural looking. to get the "higher" and "steeper" elements you're asking for (well, first off even 1.0 mountains had inverse slopes which is the "steepest" angle possible) would require a raised sky cap.
if you really don't like the new terrain and now the same cubic meter blocks have become ugly to you, get a better texture pack and play on a seed generated with the old terrain. if new features are of no value to you, go back to 1.7.3. i hardly see complaining about the game's progress as a valid way to implement change...
^agreed. the game is far from an rpg. and even if it were an rpg, it could still be sandbox, it just depends on how YOU play the game. you can turn off village generation if that's what pisses you off so much.
Edit: My bad. I didn't even read your post thoroughly. You were talking about the terrain generation. NVM. But this is still amazinggggggggg ;D^
But yeah. The terrain generation is too similar. All seeds and biomes look pretty much the same. What we need is it to be a little more like this. http://www.minecraft...ate-11-support/ Maybe tweaked a bit, but yeah.

That's just it. I am playing on a seed generated with old terrain from an old version. I am also still playing with my previous texture pack, Ovo's "Rustic".

So yeah, in an update or two, terrain generation will be the same or better than what it once was.
YUM YUM YUM!
Play this map, has all the biomes, made with sprawling mountains. Oceans of trees, truely beautiful. Youre welcome.
