I am curious to hear from everyone, love or hate the game/direction of the game/notch.
What was the AHA! moment when you realized you loved and were possibly addicted to Minecraft. What was the first thing that you built that you were truly proud of?
My first moment was when I made a 5 pin combo lock for my treasure room.
On one of the first SMP servers I played on, myself and a group of other players struck off from one of the established towns to build a new one out in the desert. We spent many nights fighting tooth and nail against monsters as we struggled to establish the town.
It wasn't a moment, exactly, but that period in time perfect encapsulated everything I love about the game - exploring, building, working with other people, and the struggle involved in fighting nature to survive. That experience crystallized things for me, even though the map and the server have both long since faded away.
