The picture says it all. (It's an abandoned mineshaft that generated aboveground)

95% of teens would scream if Justin Beiber was about to jump of the top of the Empire State Building. If you are in the 5% that would grab a seat and some popcorn and yell JUMP! JUMP! JUMP! post this into your sig.
My avatar-Madison Gotha. She knows various weapons, she's a mage/sage, and is somewhat immortal. Madison has the capability of taming and communicating monsters, a genetic trait passed down by her father. 26 physically, 1400-something mentally, and a Lofty Peakian/Zenithian mix. Doesn't really like being called an elf and hates being called human..

If you add (chance=1.0) to the end of the preset given above, you'll get a world that is nothing but abandoned mineshaft (and your computer will hate you; Amplified is nothing to this, I tried it and it literally took 5 minutes to generate terrain, then it nearly froze up with "post render out of memory" warnings (I think the GPU running of of RAM? The game reported there was plenty free) until I restarted it and used Tiny render distance, and that still lagged a lot, just as it warns in the link above).
In particular, "chance" sets the probability of an abandoned mineshaft complex generating per chunk; the default is 0.01 for a 1% chance of generating while 1.0 gives you a 100% chance, although it is lower near the origin (0, 0); for example, only 1/10th as high within 8 chunks:
As an aside, I modified the above line of code to remove the second part, which then required a big reduction in the default chance to get a reasonable frequency; in other words, the default chance is really way too high, as can be seen on this map of one of my worlds (vanilla generation) well away from the origin.
I got three different shafts above the ground in my world.
Yay for confused miners!

But you knew that already
How do I generate that?

Yeah, I thought I'd see a picture of someone spawning in a sea of lava or something.

Not a glitch, they just messed with the super flat presets.
What did you do?

Please quote me so i can know you responded. Thanks!
You just use the classic flat preset, then for the decoration, you put in mineshaft. So the preset will be like this:
2;7,2x3,2;1;mineshaft
To me, it looks like an adventure map.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
I got three different shafts above the ground in my world.
