So, I decided to test falling damage because I didn't see any thread around about it.
I've heard that death occurs at a fall 20 blocks high, however I tested holding shift+falling of the edge. It came out a bit differently:
1-3 blocks 0 damage
4 1/2 dmg
5 1 dmg
6 1,1/2 dmg
7 2 dmg
8 2,1/2 dmg
9 3 dmg
10 3,1/2 dmg
11-12 4 dmg
13 5 dmg (yes, it jumped a whole heart)
14 5,1/2 dmg
15 6 dmg
16-17 6,1/2 dmg
18 7,1/2 dmg (and again)
19-20 8 dmg
21 9 dmg (here too)
22-23 9,1/2 dmg
24 =
It's safe to assume any higher drop is instant death as well. I might test this further with different circumstances and different levels of water, though apparently 3 blocks or deeper water negates all fall damage.
(Tested with no armor and both on peaceful and non-peaceful)

You data implies that this equation might be wrong (either that or an error in your data, or a rounding error in MC is causing it).
If you do test this with the varying amor types, be sure to update the wiki entry. It'd be useful information for everyone :smile.gif: I've also been able to safely fall into 2 deep water (I think). Might want to test water deepness and see how that affects the damage done. Does 1 deep water help at all?
I like where this is going, but be sure to update the Wiki entry with your findings so everyone can benefit from them

1 water always stops the fall for me, but only if I'm holding space as I fall into it

Oh neat. I've definitely died when falling into 1 deep water, but I doubt I would have been holding space. I'll have to try this out. Could be a neat way to make a "secret room" that most people would die if they entered.
you know what...I'm gonna test the water thing right away to confirm that it actually works, because I'm not 100% sure...it may not work if the height difference is too big, for example.

edit: yep, it seems to work all the time.
I've just done a bit of my own in-depth testing.
the water trick only works up to 54 blocks.
(as in 54 blocks above the water)
<- you
<-54 blocks
<-water
still absolutely amazing, though.
since that is just for 1 block.
with two, you can fall 108 blocks. (I also tested this one)
so the most water you will ever need is 3 blocks of the stuff - since the map hight falls a little short of 162.

I made a pillar from sea level (64) to the maximum height (130) and it worked for me...weird.

are you sure you had only one block of water?
Keep in mind I sneak-fell off the blocks, might be that is a factor. Also sadly, I can't test it since I can't play it at my friend's anymore, and I don't have Beta bought myself. Also, it might be just me, but jumping instead of falling increases damage more than the height of the jump (that is about 1 block).

Something that spikes my curiosity is the effect on mobs. And what about incomplete water?
I want to put a loot chute on my mob gravity trap, but I want to see how much water flow I can use. Also with fences, while would reduce that height by 1/2 block as far as falling goes.

LurkerI like to think I'm clever.1 water always stops the fall for me, but only if I'm holding space as I fall into it
good job, mods, good job
Hold space or die, mwahaha.

I hope this is true.
I wish this forum had some sort of rep system.
because I would give you all of it.

Jump out a five story building while wearing full suit of armor, just a flesh wound.

we need to find some more testers.
