It was Yahtzee Croshaw from Zero Punctuation who said that the real joy of Minecraft is the amount of effort it takes to build something cool. To be able to spawn an infinite explosives and gold blocks leaves the game with little more than Garry's Mod.
When I first spawned into my first creative mode in 1.8 I was confronted with so many options of things to do, I did stupid **** that is impossible in survival, but offers little fun like blowing up lots of TNT, and digging down below bedrock, then flying up above the building limit and dropping down into it. I didn't find myself building anything cool. I just kinda ran around placing blocks.
In survival mode you can give yourself priorities. You know what to do when you spawn: start punching trees! Get coal! Start making a mine! And when you find yourself deep in your mine in the middle of the night, you can dream of how to build your house. You always have something to build.
I like having creative for servers, but I feel like in single player it just makes us a little less... creative.
I'm trying to resist a "cool story bro", so instead I'll start by complimenting you for the "(but I don't mind having it around!)".
What you're saying does have merit to it. In Survival mode, you need to worry about building safe houses and farms and such, giving people inspiration by necessity. With Creative mode, it's more open-ended, letting you choose your own objectives.
It's simply a matter of personal preference. Play whichever you want, however you want. It's a sandbox game.

People have been spawning items since Minecraft began. Why complain now that you can do it in vanilla?
