Okay, so here's the story. Originally, I was going to get a Seagate Barricuda 1 TB HDD for my gaming rig that I'm planing on building. Then, my dad "decided" that I shouldn't, because they fail too often. From what I've heard, Seagates are just fine.
So, does anyone know of another HDD for $100 or, a good enough reason to show my dad that Seagates are fine?
Here's my build. The reason I have a z77 motherboard is because I'm planing to get the ivy bridge when it comes out. If you have any suggestions for the build, please mention them.
for 120 dollars it is not much more than the hard drive, so, again, if you can scavange a hard drive from your old pc you can buy at ssd and use that old hard drive.

Can you use the old hdd from your previous laptop/desktop? Because for 100 dollars you can get a small, budget, SSD drive. Only if you can use the hdd from your previous computer though.

All I have at my house are laptops and I can't really scavenge the HDD's. I was looking for a main hard drive, not a 120Gb SSD, which isn't enough space for main storage.
Tell your Dad that the only brand to watch out for is Hitachi when buying drives, even though WD owns them now the quality hasn't improved by much. What does he know if he says that Seagate is terrible? I own an external wireless drive of theirs and it has been operating smoothly without a hitch for almost a year.

I guess have to try further convincing him.Does anyone have any suggestions on my build, though?
I don't trust that psu. I would recommend an extra 30$ or so for a 750-850W PSU, made by XFX or equivelant.
Also, seriously, ? Who the hell buys operating systems these days? I am not saying you SHOULD download it, but I am just surprised
that people still buy software these days =/.

You probably don't need the z77 motherboard, a z68 one will work fine. Also, if this is going to be for gaming, you might want to step down to an i3 2100 or so, and use that to get a better graphics card.

How would I get said OS without using the internet and you need an OS to use the internet,

He said he is going to get Ivy Bridge when it comes out. OP, don't order that build until it does. The GPU is fine, no point in getting a better one.

I have a lot of issues with your post. First off: Rosewill makes very good PSU's, and 650W is plenty for this build. Second, Illegally downloading an OS is the worst thing you can do. You'd take a risk with the thing that allows you to actually use the computer? I'd rather pay $100 and get something that I know will work. What if a virus comes with it, and ALL of your files are corrupted with no chance of ever getting them back? Cracked OS's are often slower. If you need a free OS, get Linux.
Also, OP, get a Lite-On optical drive, that's just me being picky though.
It's for personal preference. The MX518 is getting a bit old, to be honest. Isn't the G400 a remake anyway? I myself think the G500 is the best mouse they sell, but if you like the G400 OP get it.

Yeah, I was thinking Rosewill was fine. What's the difference between Lite-on and Sony. I want to get a really cheap optical drive because all I need it for is installing the OS.
Also, what's the difference between a modular and non-modular PSU?
Non-modular: No removable cables, cheaper
Modular: All or most of the cables removable, more expensive

About the PSU, how about this?

z68 still works with ivy bridge.

z77 is slightly better for the Ivy.
