First of all, pardon my bad English. It's not my mother language.
Second, sorry, this is probably a stupid question. I understand very little about minecraft mods and all that (I've never used any so far).
Well, I just learned all the source files you need to work with are written in Java and I dont have the slightest familiarity with that language. I know some C# though. Is there a way to write mods using a .NET language instead of java (specifically server mods, since I'm interested in building a few simple features for my friend's server)? And if there's no way, I'd like to know if Mojang has any project to make mod creation available to .NET developers (even if I have to use XNA, for some reason. I don't mind, as long as i don't need to learn a new language. I just dont have the time. I'm still in school - not even high school...)
And if Mojang has no such project I'd like to suggest that they maybe could think about starting one. There are a lot of people in the world and they know a lot of different programing languages. If people could develop for minecraft using .NET, a lot more people would be able to join, since .NET is a common platform for a very large number of programing languages.
Sorry, my post was too long. I'm done now. Thanks for your patience, readers.
I think it is possible to do so, but it'll be so tedious (or won't work at all) that you are better off learning a new programming language.
A .Net Platform would be possible, but would need drastic changes to the current Minecraft code to do so.
I suggest to you are better off learning a bit of Java, and watch some minecraft tutorials as you can learn a lot of the syntax and other parts of the language.
I started with C and C++ and then moved to C# and just after learning the C# basics I started looking into Minecraft modding and found that Java is very similar to C#. If you know some C# and jump into learning Java you will quickly see that most stuff is the same or just small changes, atleast on the level you will be modding on anyways
And of course programming concepts are language independent so if you understand the concepts, then it's no problem to pick up the new terms and do the same inn Java as you did inn C# ^^

http://thenewboston.org/list.php?cat=31 could be a good place to start getting into Java if you only know some C#
Good luck on your programming adventure!
