there probably wont be an exiting tutorial today. i will try my hardest to make a tree tutorial tonight and finish it in the morning. a lot of stuff has come up today and the armor tutorial i had made does not seam to work. i will be looking into this. right now i think i would like to just have a few moments to organize everything. i am extremely sorry everyone for the inconvenience everyone.
update: just added a world gen tutorial. this one deals with adding trees. keep in mind this wont make your trees naturally spawn it will simply make a tree grow from a sapling. this tutorial includes 3 block tutorials as well as a peek at my core mod file. i am going to be posting a tutorial for custom bonemeal and how to use bonemeal events so that actual bonemeal will apply to your tree.
Any update on the stair tutorial or am I just being annoying. Even just an example of the code for the package and class would be great thanks. sorry to bug you.
yes about the stairs. they keep giving me an extremely odd error. i am going to finish up the bonemeal tuts and start working on stairs
then i will work on slabs and finally fences.
also don't worry about being annoying. these tuts are meant to help people. if you have a request keep asking till i give a good enough awnser
Any time estimate on the slabs tutorial? It'd be really useful!
im working hard
i just added 2 new source codes. one is my more swords mod and another one is an example of trees. i also finished up the tree worldgen code today aswell as bonemeal events and custom bonemeal.
i will try my best to get the stairs and slabs done by tonight. it is currently 2pm and i have no plans for the day so it all depends on how many errors i run into :3
ok looks like i got the slab tutorial done you can place it on the upper half of blocks too
there is some minor bugs with the slabs such as placing a slab block on top of a slab block that is positioned in the upper half of a block will cause it to place the slab bellow the block making the slab a double slab. i think this has something to do with minecraft's code or how i made the slabs work. this is however a minor bug and shouldn't be worried about to much.
OK just an update. the stair tutorial will be available in like 5 mins. i am just typing out the tutorial itself.
good news. the error is simple to fix. essentially it was just the order i had my code in :/
but more good news. the stairs will be mountable meaning they will place facing your direction like normal stairs. the stairs made with this tut will also be placeable upside down and they will form corners
Nice! Looks like good clean code with reasonable explanations.
I'll try it...
As for suggestions, I would REALLY appreciate an example of making a brand new
throwable item. I've looked everywhere and can't find one.
I've also tried about everything and am about to give up in exasperation.
My throwable item remains invisible... grrr...
A throwable item tutorial will explain two things:
1) how to make a throwable item correctly (which no one seems to know),
2), how to register a custom renderer for the item, which also seems to
be a bit of magic... (this should also be useful for new mobs!)
The context I'm coming from, is I've made a custom biped mob,
and would like it to throw something other than snowballs or fireballs!

i see. my friend isaac maker of the bacon mod has had a horrible time getting this to work however he did manage to get it done in the end. i know how to register rendering entities. i cant right up a tutorial real quick however. if you would like to learn i would recommend downloading the source code from elemental creepers and look in the client and common proxy classes.
So, I have to say, even with the bug, the slabs tutorial was great and really helped me out! As for the stairs I have not finished it yet, but you double posted some code. The one for the stairs themselves specifically.

hey, thanks for catching that. i must have pasted it twice its fixed now
So for the tutorial for the slabs one do you plan on fixing that bug? I'm trying on my end but I know it would help others out too.
Welcome lol
hey, honestly im not sure how we can fix it. essentially the way it works is the slab checks and if there is another slab being placed on it it will turn the block into one block.

Hmm. I did have a mod back when I ran modloader that did allow you to put a slab on another with it going where you placed it even if there was nothing on the other side.
Such as if you placed it from the top it would form upwards rather than disappearing to the bottom and vice versa. So there is a way. It's just a matter of how. I'll try to find a way on my end and update you if I fix it.

i voted for 'other' because it would be great if you did fences and gates. I don't think i've scene any tutorials on them (but i'm heading off to search on youtube for them now, so i probably shouldn't say that there aren't any at all until after i've checked there)

Please do it soon, because my mod requires that tutorial =)
