Hello and welcome to my advanced guide on how to add "smooth" curves to a mob design using techne...
In this guide I will be showing you a very simple way to add a smooth curve to a mob design using rectangular cubes...
All right here's the situation this would be used for!
So your making your mob in "Techne", la de da de da, and you come across a problem, OH NO! you need rounded spiky hair on your mobs back! You cry for a bit, but then you compose yourself and send a formal letter to the president of the USA asking how to make curves in "Minecraft"... But, he doesn't know what "Minecraft" is and most likely doesn't care so you don't get a response and go along in your life never knowing how to create the simple thing that is a curve in "Minecraft", but don't fret! I'm here and I will show you my method to the madness I just described above.
The Tutorial
First start off with a thin rectangle and place it at a 90 degree angle.
Then Make a few of the same rectangles literally complete copies of the first... make about five..
After that start aranging the rectangles down from each other a set distance.... see below
Like this...
Example 1:

|
|
Then starting with the second highest rectangle start "pitching" there angle by ever increasing increments of 10 as you get lower so the little lines will start crossing. this example is not the position they will be in... keep in mind..
Example 2:
| 0 degrees pitched.
| 10 degrees pitched.
| 20 degrees pitched. ect ect...
Keep setting there pitches until you see a curve.. once you see that curve.. you'll know what to do from there :smile.gif:
Now what I recommend is to try this with lines first in a paint program... anything will do :smile.gif: I use GIMP.
Here's an example of using the method I described above with lines in paint.
Now here is a bonus tutorial on how to setup/use this on your mob. :smile.gif:
The tutorial #2
Step 1: Plan out your mob on a piece of paper and note where you will need curves.
Step 2: Make the basic shape of your mob.. That includes only the body, the head, and the feet.
Step 3: Start adding in the details of your mob, but don't go insane and take to long on this step because things are about to get fun..
Step 4: Using the template above start adding in the curves; please note that you can stray from that template.
Picture of this method being put to use... :smile.gif:
Added The video! :smile.gif: Should help clear things up a bit on how it works... this is a 2D representation of what you would do with the actual squares.... just imagine the lines are thin rectangles :biggrin.gif:

Look up "The Great Sea" In the texture topic Its awesome!
This is a really basic way of making nice curves on paper etc. already taught to us in preliminary school :smile.gif: But it's nice to use it this way. May I ask for what kind of mobs you would need curves this large, by the way? :tongue.gif:
Did not know they taught this stuff... Mmm well I'm making a custom mob right now called a razor back its got a large tuft of fur on its back that's sharp... hence the name razorback :smile.gif:
also.. it doesn't have to be large it can be small as well.. you can manipulate it to suit your needs.
Really the only reason I put this method up is because I didn't witness it being used in mods such as "Mo' creatures".... thought it might be helpful.

I don't get how this or the tutorial deals with minecraft at all.
-.- it shows how to make curves using three dimensional rectangles.... since there are no curved lines in "Minecraft" this should be useful for creating them.. it opens up a whole new world for "Minecraft" mob making.. its called advanced mob making for a reason.. This isn't a tutorial on how to use "techne", you are already supposed to know when your read this tutorial
"Techne" being the program used to model mobs in "Minecraft"

Just try it in paint... follow the template.. its really hard to explain how to do this.. I may make a youtube video.
