Instructions:
1. Open your .minecraft folder.
2. Go into the bin folder.
3. Open minecraft.jar using WinRAR or a similar program.
4. Delete the META-INF folder inside the minecraft.jar
5. Open the folder titled "title", it should be the last folder before the class files in the minecraft.jar
6. Open splashes.txt
7. Here you will see all of the "splashes" that Notch has made. To put in your own, just type in your little phrase, and separate each phrase using a return. Create and delete as many as you like.
(Sorry for my terrible handwriting, it's hard to write with a mouse.)
You cannot use returns within your quote as they will make a whole new quote altogether. Have fun making your own "splashes"!
Here is an example of what you could put in the splashes.txt file:
A WINNER IS YOU

So I went in to change my splashes, and ended up deleting all but about 20 of them and added a few of my own. But when I start up minecraft, all I get is one that says "missingno". Anything I can do to fix it?

I'm sorry, I found it out while looking through the minecraft.jar file, I knew that somebody had probably already found it out, but I thought I would post it just in case anybody wanted to know. I'm sure somebody posted it before you also, as so many people play this game, and many of those people mod their minecraft.jar file, and many of those people look around in the minecraft.jar file for something easy and cool they can do to mod the game.
TL;DR: I did not steal your idea, i found it out independently.
EDIT: I looked at what you posted.

Sorry if this has been said before but I am new to this forum and have no idea how to use the search bar.
Go into the minecraft.jar file. After that there should be a folder called Titles. Whithin it there is a text file named splashes. Go into that there should be all of the sayings that pop out at you. If you write something new in there like " I need a Doctor" it should eventually show up sometime. To see that this works, make a copy of the splashes file and delete the original one. Make another text file and name that splashes too, write whatever you want in it and then place the new splashes in the titles folder. It should show whatever you wrote in the splashes file. There you go thats how you change it. Then you can replace the old one back or just keep the ones that you made.
This also haves me thinking that you can change the MINECRAFT title too. It has a picture in the titles folder that I am sure that you can switch out to whatever you want to be shown.
I think I'll keep this thread up as it has a more detailed explanation of how to do it, and you did not say to delete the META-INF folder. And like you said, "I'm sorry if this has been said before."

Well actually it works without deleting the Meta-Inf folder.
By the way, Thanks.

Why should he give you credit if he found it out on his own. Sure you found it out first, but he didnt look at your post and copy it. If he legitimately discovered it, than no credit needs to be given (unless he looked at your post, which i think he didnt)
