Me and my friend spent a good 3 hours yesterday trying to figure out how to host a server. We could not manage to figure out how, and help is needed and appreciated. He is trying to host a server off a Mac, so if you know why I cannot join the server, please help. Thank you :biggrin.gif:

I have hosted several Minecraft servers before, and host a small one for my friends. Anyhow, I would guess you need to forward the port Minecraft uses, which is 25565. You can learn how to forward port here. Select your router from the list and follow the on-screen instructions. However, I personally HATE port forwarding, I have done it in the past and it is a pain. I would recommend using Hamachi. Although on this site it says it is 33 bucks it isn't it is free. Anyway, you and your friend both need to download Hamachi, you would then start a network by hitting the network tab in the Hamachi window, then your friend would join that network you made, and then you would start your MC server as usual. Your friend would then connect through your HAMACHI IP which should look something like this 5.XX.XX.XX on the top of the Hamachi window.
If you have any other questions feel free to post them, I will try to answer them when I have spare time.
come on if you have a good router its easy but if u have some cheap **** its well...
and if they want to have a server for more than thereself hamachi isnt that good..
It's not hard, never said it was hard. Just a pain :tongue.gif:

Ok thank you, he's working on it right now and we'll hopefully have it up by tomorrow. Also how do you make it so the server is on 24/7?

Leave the computer and the server running x3. And craftbukkit only makes it easier to put in plugins. You still need to forward the ports. Which I have a hard time doing. Is it cus I have a Belkin router?
Edit: Nvm. That guide that was posted is helping me xD

I already use craftbukkit...Either way you need to port-forward on craftbukkit right?
