1: Architect, im actually training to be an architect in real life and i love building things and i dont simply build regular square buildings, i make use of all the materials on offer and i try to vary my designs. I would really appreciate this job and i hope you will accept me as this.
I'm sure he would be delighted to have a future real life architect playing as an architect on his server. I sure would enjoy having one on my server. In fact, I believe that any server owner in their right mind would love to have one.
Making a cool building is more than knowing how blocks works together. At some point it becomes an art. I always, been better with science stuff than artistic stuff. I can build very practical or functional buildings but when it comes about looks I unconsciously try to replicate something I have seen somewhere (when I do not actually just make it square...). While a great architect would create something original somehow (or accidentally similar to something).
In any cases, I'm pretty sure he would let you in and let you in as an architect. On the other hand, I don't know how many blacksmiths are needed for one town. So all those asking for that position might need to worry.
2: Miner, is my second preference as i like the adventure in caves but getting ores is one of my favorite parts o minecraft. I would keep these mines organised with signs and build railways to get to specific parts of the mine.
Signs are ok, but I believe that railways belong to the engineer. You would need an engineer to build the tracks for you just like an architect would need a lumberjack to get wood. Chance are that an architect knows how to punch a tree or how to mine stones. But it is not is job. In this server you are supposed to try and stick to your job as much as possible.
Now punching out one tree that is on your appointed land may be fine, but no more than that. To get a stack of 64 wood logs, you would have to deal with a lumberjack (and so on for other resources). That said, he said that people would probably have more than one job when the server starts because there is not a lot of people. So maybe you could be Architect/miner.
I'd like to play but I have a few questions. I would want to be a farmer, but how would I start out? Do I need to have multiple plots for my house, farm, and store, or would i use one plot for all my structures? Would I need to buy supplies like hoes and seeds? And finally how would I get the water? Those are all my questions.

Those are all my questions.
When you first login to the server you would be in a new player welcoming zone. There you would find sign post for currently available job. You would take a sign and go meet a "noble man" to request the job. If the noble man accept, bingo you now have that job. Then he would give you your starting money. Which you could use to buy a number of things.
For a farmer you would buy a farming land plot on the outskirt of the city or something. You could have any building you want on your appointed land. However, as a farmer you could not build them yourself. You would need to pay for the service of an architect to build whatever you want for you. The architect himself could not simply mine the materials he need to build the house. He would need the service of a miner and/or lumberjack. And so on. If you insist on building your first house yourself. He said it would be ok, but you would still need to hire an architect to layout the foundation of your house. Perhaps you could simply build the house with the architect and direct how the finish product will look like.
As for tools, you may craft wooden and stone ones yourself and make as many as you want. You may gather limited resources on your own. Like a single tree that is on your property. But to get anymore than a few of any resources you must deal with the proper job guy. In that spirit, I believe that you can get a small bunch of seed from the tall grass that is on your land. But you would need to buy a stack of 64 from a shop. I also believe that you could keep the seeds you get when harvesting your wheat. I believe you could sell extra seeds to shop owners (I figure that would be how the shop owner actually get seeds in the first place).
For advance tools (iron, diamond, gold), you would need the service of a blacksmith. Some tools would be reserved for the exclusive use of some jobs. For example only miners could get a diamond pick axe. Bucket would be bought from store or perhaps from blacksmiths again.
One final thing, you are only allowed to cultivate one type of thing on your land. If you are cultivating wheat and would like to cultivate Cacti or Sugar cane, you would need to buy a second land from the noble man.
Again, this is not my server. But from what I know, that is about how it would work out as is. That said, the server owner is open to suggestion I believe.
Love your idea about doing this server, and i would like to help you to make it a huge RP server with 100+ players or even 1000+ players. The jobs are also pretty awesome which i may ask, can i be please a Watch captain, or is there something i need to do first !? :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif:

I was wondering when someone would finally request that high up position. Well according to the owner, to be Watch captain you must first be a town watch. But since no one have been town watch yet, maybe you could get the job straight up. Or maybe the town watch will be handled by the noble man at first and then a watch captain will be chosen among the existing town watch.
PS: Again, this is not my server. So don't take my word for truth. But the Owner does not seem very active around here. Since I'm somewhat well informed about the server, part of me feel the obligation to answer questions in his place.
WARNING: Kind of a long read (but still read it :tongue.gif: )
If any of you are interested, alongside your feedback, please leave a list of 2-3 of the jobs you'd be willing to play as. This way i can get a good idea of what is most popular and what is not.
I was thinking about starting up an RP server, sort of like the ones in Garry's Mod. Obviously i wont have the GUI and it would just be done on an honor system, unless it proves popular enough to warrant me spending time and moding the game.
would any of you be interested to play such a mode?
There would be a form of currency (dont know yet, maybe gold since its useless).
Essentially, you join and there would be a list of available jobs that you can sign up for you'd have to perform its duties, and you'd be payed for them. The jobs would be as follows (this is not a tentative list and may obviously change):
1. Noblemen: Just a fancy word for the admins. They live in the castle, and essentially own the land. To buy a plot of land, you pay the noblemen accordingly depending on the size. You are also required to pay taxes to them (i dont know how often)
2. Town Watch: These men would be responsible for ensuring the safety of the town and protecting all the citizens. They would be required to patrol the town, the outlying frontier and holding watch shifts at night. They can also be hired as a personal escort/bodyguard.
3. Watch Captain: Responsible for maintaining order amongst the Town Watch soldiers. The captain must first have been a town watch member to be promoted by a noblemen. They would have access to the better equipment and be responsible for paying the Town Watch guards.
4. Blacksmith: As the name states, he creates fine tools, weapons, and armors using ores. The blacksmith would have to buy shipments of ores from miners. The blacksmith pays very little taxes, as he must keep the town watch properly armed at all times.
5. Architect/Stone Mason: Responsible for using wood/stone to build various structures. If you want a wood/stone house you must speak with an architect/stone mason and tell him the design plans. He will build it for you, and you will pay him. The architect must buy his supply of wood from lumberjacks.
6. Engineer: A very intellectually challenging job. The job of an engineer is to create redstone circuits for clients. If you want wiring done in your house, hire an engineer and he'll do it for you; no longer must you toil with the annoying redstone. It pays very well, but must be highly experience with redstone circuitry.
7. Hunter: Goes about hunting and gathering meat and wool. A basic entry level job as all it requires is a sword, however it can be done professionally. The hunter then sells the meat to the cooks and the various other items (wool, string, gunpowder, etc) to the store owners.
8. Miner: Miners must go about in the depths of the caves and gather resources. A highly time consuming job yet one of the most lucrative. Miners can then sell their bounty to Stone Masons, Engineers, and Blacksmiths
9. Cook: Basically prepares all sorts of meats, bread, stews, etc for consumption. They buy their inventory from Hunters and Farmers.
10. Farmer: Farmers can specialize to grow only a SINGLE type of crop PER land, the crops can be; wheat, reeds, trees groves, cacti, etc. They can purchase an additional plot of land if they want to grow different crops.
11. Store Owner: Store owners are general salesmen that will sale various types of items ranging from; seeds, string, bones, books, maps etc. They can buy their inventory from practically anyone
12. Banker/Scribes: Bankers essentially run a secure bank where citizens can store their money and collect intrest. They also have the duty of go about and acting as tax collectors for the noblemen.
13. Lumberjack: They go about collecting wood and selling it to the Architects. Another entry level job for beginners, but can also be done professionally.
15. Peasant/Apprentice Basically when you join the server you start off as a peasant. You can get an interest free loan from the bank ONCE to help you start out. Also griefers or other members who are punished may have their jobs stripped demoted to a peasant. You can pretty much just drift around doing as you please (within the law obviously), but remember you must be able to afford to pay taxes. You can also be hired for temporary jobs such as carrying a miners equipment/loot for that expedition.
Apprentices are peasants who have gotten "hired" at another place. For example they can be hired by an architect/stone mason to help them build houses. Apprentices will get a small salary, and is a great way to collect some money and start your own business.
If guys have suggestions for new jobs or to edit these let me know.
There is pretty much a free economy and business owners/workers would be free to dictate their prices as is fit for the market; of course the admins will monitor it all so nothing is exploited.
if the village expands, then we can build a new one else where and just have a huge region populated with towns and settlements.
I'd be willing to buy a server and pay for it myself, as i have a few friends who would help me out.
Would anyone be remotly intresting in playing something like this? If you are then ill look for a server and then creat a new thread where ill admit people in the server based on their skill/job availabiltiy. Once teh town establishes itself ill make it open to everyone.
So there is the Town Watch, but what do they protect the town from? I suggest a sort of gang that raids towns and loots. That way, Town Watch players have a job, and don't have to just stand around all day doing nothing. If you decide to add this, could I be the leader?

The owner have already said he was interested into some kind of war thing going on. Perhaps between rival "faction" each having towns or perhaps with a gang of bandit living as outcast as you suggested.
Otherwise, the town watch are supposed to protect the town from monsters. Surely admins could easily arrange occasional monster raide where they spawn monsters like mad or things like that. Which would give those on town watch duty something to do.
Alternatively they can be hired as body guards. Which means that a miner who stumbled about some epic natural cave could hire some well equipped muscle to explore the darkness of those dangerous caves.
The night as past and the farmers comes out again to cultivate his land. But he soon find out that there are 5 creepers wandering about his farm. Who do you think he will run to ?
Even if they are called "town watch", according to the description they are also expected to patrol the land all the way up to the countries border. Which allows them to explore and get some adventure going. I guess it would be more fitting to call them soldiers, or at least guards.
If you are afraid town watch wont have much to do. Think about store owners. They just sit in there shop buying and selling stuff. Lumberjacks just chop down tree and nothing else (I guess that could grow old after a while).
Now you are not always doing your job. You can spend some times doing personal stuff. But the fun in role playing servers usually lies in actual role playing. You are supposed to spend some times speaking to other players and stuff. Then admins could easily incorporate story element to spice things up. They could mandate a player to start acting as a sneaky serial killer. A jack the riper that the town watch would need to investigate on and finally confront the killer in battles in the end. Stuff like that. Now again, I am not the server owner. But if I was admin on that server I would definitively plot story elements left and right to spice up the role playing thing a bit.
I do hope that the admins (whom ever they will be) will do stuff like that.
PS: As for if you can be the town watch captain. Read my previous post.
Hey guys, sorry for not being more active on this post; been busy with school/work.
Zhab, you're an awesome guy! Thanks for keeping the thread going and answering questions. +rep and diamondz
Everything he's said is spot on, i probably dont need to clarify anything.
Also the town watch will be the Anti-Griefer police; you have the right to kil/arrest all griefers and law breakers. You essentially maintain order int he settlement and make sure everyone is doing their job (and not cutting into anyone else's).
Thanks for the interest guys; i'm seriously considering setting this server up. The first people in, would be chosen based on what jobs they're willing to do just to help us establish the town.
I forgot to add the other jobs I would like !
#1 ; Miner
#2 ; Banker
#3 ; Farmer
I prefer the more simpler jobs , for some reason :tongue.gif:
If you actually made this server , I would probably be on it all the time :biggrin.gif:

I read the post, and I would like to be Watch Captain if you appoint a player on the spot for it and if I am the best for that job, but the job sounds fun. That is my first choice, but if I don't get that, here are my top three choices if I don't get Watch Captain.
1. Noblemen 2. Town Watch 3. Banker
P.S. You deserve diamonds, lots of diamonds.
the original post has been updated (orange text) with a link the RP Server Blog.
I've listed the jobs in a better way, and also the rules. Check it out :wink.gif:
the server will beup soon, thanks for the interest guys. I still have about 6 slots available so PM me.
we need a Cook, another Miner, Lumberjack, another blacksmith, another hunter, and another engineer.
Once the settlement is established, i'll remove the white list and people can start joining (granted if there are slots available). the first people in will have the benefit of having some resources granted to the right away.
Ok... Would you care to elaborate on that ? If what you suggest make sense it might be implemented into the server. In fact, depending on what you will suggest, we may in fact be already thinking about something like that.
In any cases, if you want your post to have any significances, you need to say more than 3 words. My twocents.
I was seriously considering having a group of bandits/raiders who can have their small encampment nearby. This way it would make the wilderness much more dangerous and give make town guards escort miners and merchants.
However with a server of only 16 people, thats not gonna work. If the server becomes more popular and i upgrade to a 32 player server then that is definitely what im going to do. Having more players will also mean more settlements and even rival factions.
I would really like to join, as I have not yet had any experience with an RP server, I have however played D&D and made some interactive story's, so I am not a complete rookie in this sort of stuff. I would like to be a: Hunter, miner or cook. I would also like to know if you can combine one of them with shop ownership, like a foodshop, or a or shop. I am ready to first be an apprentice and would really, really like to get a PM to enter
Just posting here might work. But it would be best if you would PM thermalburn directly with your in game name (so that he can give you access) and the list of desired jobs you posted here. Once he read your message he should send you a confirmation of your job. Also, the server is not up and operational quite yet. So you may have to wait a bit more before you can join.
As for combining jobs, that may be possible at first because we would not have many players online. But later on you are expected to have one job and stick to it. That said, you could play a merchant (shop owner) who specialize into selling food. You would just have to get your food from a cook. Perhaps you could make a partnership. You would have a shop on the 1 floor and a kitchen on the 2 floor. The cook make food and place it in the supply room in the basement for the merchant to sell and they split the overall store profits according to some arrangement. The Merchant would probably make efforts to travel around to sell food. I guess that the cook could possible take care of a customer while is merchant partner is away. Stuff like that.
Players are encouraged to role play and make in-character friends and contact. Perhaps some town guard heroically protected the shop of some merchant from a pack of bandits and how he get a discount at that shop. This is a role playing server. People should makes stories with each other.
i would love to i always have loved rp servers and this sounds epic

I'm saying this just in case. But to join this server you need to PM thermalburn. For more information, please read the green text in the first post of this topic (if you haven't already).
