I opened my mc launcher and didn’t accepted my pass. I requested a pass change and didn’t receive it.
In a fast google seems that my account to be hacked.
Don’t say it’s my fault, I don’t play multiplayer or online, and never give info via email (phishing). Actually I haven’t played mc in months. So the hackers gone directly to Mojang database and the failure is theirs!
I am not so concerned about my mc account, I rarely play it now, and to get it back seems to be a worthless chore, but I am, concerned about the servers security, I am an avid video game player, have other accounts such as steam, stardock, ubi, and many others, and is the first time something like this happened to me.
My main concern what kind of other info could the hackers access?
This is most likely a phishing scam e-mail, I been getting some odd ones on games I never played its just a hit and miss if you play that game or not. Make sure you always check the link if its coming from a good source also check the email address if its coming from (Yahoo.com or gmail.com) or something else that doesn't make sense. I would scan your computer for virus or malware at this point.
You don’t get the point, I understand how phising works, see the mail I paste, it doesn’t have any kind of link to click and I didn’t click in anything in that mail.
Just after getting the mail concerned I opened my MC launcher and “voila” couldn't login (surely my account was already hacked at that point) , requested email pass verification and didn’t get anything so far.
Like I told it is Mojang’s servers the ones being hacked and it’s their responsibility, it’s not something I did.
2 questions; Which virus protection and spyware protection software do you use, and how often do you scan your PC with both of them?
If Mojangs account database had been compromised then we'd hear a lot more people talking about lost accounts than just you.
Free protection software I can recommend is Advanced System Care free edition and either Avast! or AVG. (I recommend Avast!.)
Well you're wrong, Mojangs servers weren't hacked, you were. You do know that just simply connecting to the internet is enough right? You don't have to click on some shady email link to get hacked/phished/whatever. So, you can either A: Continue to think you know everything about how to protect yourself and blame Mojang, or B: You can use this event as an eyeopener and strengthen your passwords, being thankful it was just a game account that was stolen from you, and not something important.
Yup I got the exact same email. Was wondering what was going on when I searched and saw you had the same thing. I can still log into the game but if even more than one person got this, I am concerned too.

Look man I am old enough to know that virus are a blessing to all kind of software devs and technical support, every kind of problem is the user fault because “they have a virus”…. And you have no way to show it is true or not… I have Kaspersky, my OS is updated, I have NO VIRUS or other entity and my PC works perfectly.
And assuming is true then is also mojang fault because their software have a hole that needs to be patched.
I haven’t used; since November never play multiplayer, so I doubt it was a “virus” (good bless the virus they make the user responsible of everything)

You are the one being wrong, google and search in this very forums a lot of people are getting this emails lately, so someone is getting the info of the usernames and trying to get something else, so they are doing the dirty work in their data and not here in my PC, but like I told is so easy to say is the user fault.
Bigger companies such as Sony or Ubi had been hacked in the past, so why you doubt it can happen to a smaller one like Mojang?
The idea is that if you don't know what accounts are linked to your email you enter your email on the site and receive a mail with the answer (the email you got)
That is all it is for.
Exactly! I didn’t requested such email, obviously someone got my user and then moved my account.
You probably should adress this to Mojang directly using their support ticket function
I still have my payment info, such a pity I have this account since 2011 when mc was in BETA 1.8 but seems a chore and since I have doubts now in the servers security I am scared about what kind info maybe compromised if hacked again.
So let’s the hackers have fun with the account I paid for and they got for free.
If Mojang was hacked than we'd be hearing a lot more about it, while I'm not trying to be mean here if all these people are telling you the same thing then haven't you considered it might possibly not be an issue with Mojang? That aside there is many possibilities in the way somebody can gain access to your account, it doesn't always happen on your PC. I would suggest writing Mojang a support ticket about it at this point.

Haha, you think he wanted to do anything besides whine and cry on the forums? He could have had an answer from Mojang in half the time he spent putting down all the suggestions and advice on this thread.

Well, if it's such a hassle to do what you are supposed to do after getting hacked... Then this is actually your problem. You decided not to take the needed steps to get your account back so don't blame it on Mojang that you lost it because if you did stuff like everyone else does your problem would've probably been solved by now. So don't blame the world for choices YOU made.
Also what info could be compromised, if you're hacked the hackers already know everything, right?
I suggest next time use a stronger password (I never got hacked in my life) and change it from time to time. And stop blaming stuff on others.

Recently a respected national U.S.retailer was exploited using a third party contractor with just the email exploit described. The security permissions obtained from this contractor gave them an open door to all the high security accounts of the retailer. The individual private accounts of this retailer had nothing to do with the exploit, but a very large number of the retail base data was obtained including the banking information of these people. I suspect the banks were also accessed but nobody is admitting it.
If the moderator wished to diffuse the statements put forth by the Minecraft account owner, it would be better to steer clear of blaming and sarcasm. Maybe give people strait talk on how to secure their accounts, like password changing and and as mentioned a reliable security program that they actually like that doesn't tie their system into a knot. Also, it would be of interest in knowing why anyone would care to be accessing the accounts of something like Minecraft where there is no monetary transactions going on, maybe only some in game chat. The absence of monetary transactions would point to other types of enrichment being the motive. I also never play on servers and have recently changed my password because of perceived inconsistency's signing in.
Minecraft is a great game, I'd like to support it by not tearing down fellow game players. Thank you
I recieved the same exact email twice! The first one I got was 3 days ago and another one today! What is going on here? I'm very concerned about this.
I'm just now reading the replies on this thread and I can't believe what I'm reading. My computer is armor protected and nobody knows my password. I also feel strongly this is Mojang's fault. I would appreciate if someone from Mojang replied to this topic. Thank you!
Firstly, I have attempted to contact Mojang to complain about my loss of account, secondly, while I received a different email (mine was to verify my email address-which is odd as I have been playing Minecraft longer than I have been on this site--see profile for details[?]). I did basically the same thing as the person who wrote the original post, and I cannot even access https://account.mojang.com/login.
Frankly, I do not feel the need to go into my anti-virus and firewall (not to mention anti-malware, anti-spyware, etc), when I can simply say I am majoring in Computer Science in college and I went through the 'basics' of maintenance and repair in High School... If this were 'my fault' then a lot more than Minecraft would have been compromised.
So, no, it isn't just them... as you can clearly see there are more people here saying that they have had similar happen to them.
Yeah... That doesn't explain why I suddenly cannot login to Minecraft... I know the password is correct, I know the 'name' is correct... but it simply will not allow me to login (or get my password reset).
I got this email today, too. I have virus protection and scan fairly often. I can still log into the game normally. I'm still bewildered and concerned, though.
Still waiting for a password reset email from Mojang. I did this some time before finding this thread, so it has likely been a week since I requested my password reset. Not entirely sure when I contacted Mojang with the email questioning the reason and access to my account again, but nothing has come from that.
I know the email isn't being put into spam, I've checked (at least) three times. And, unless the Mojang system is stupid, it should be being sent to my email-instead of anyone who may have attempted to hijack the account-as it still recognizes my email... I just receive nothing when trying to contact them or reset my password.
I imagine that more people than those who are voicing their concerns on these forums are experiencing this issue, which might explain why response time is slow... And to those getting annoyed that we are continuing with what you may see as a farce... it is important that others who experience the same or similar issues have a place to see that they are not alone in these issues. While it is certainly true that there are those who do not know how to do the 'automatic' steps to get their accounts back-even if due to user error-more than enough do know, or are smart enough/willing to look up instructions. This is, or should be, for the rest of us who have already tried the simple steps that are routinely repeated to people with 'lost accounts' complaints...
(If I misinterpreted your comments, then I do apologize, but, while I certainly recognize that this is a 'fan-base maintained unofficial' forum, it is still necessary for those of us who are experiencing 'different' account issues to know that we are not, necessarily, alone or unique. Regardless of whether anyone on this site can actually do anything about it or not, the sharing and pooling of information alone helps.)
I can pretty much confirm that my account was hacked now. I never change my Minecraft skin, so, in theory, my skin should be the default 'Steve' skin. I checked three websites to see if my skin had been changed and all three show the same thing... a modified skin.
Considering I bought Minecraft while it was in early Beta-long before account migration-I am unable to find the verification code for my account. I'm hoping that Mojang will be willing to assist me anyway.
Now I'm just wondering how I lost access to the account...
P.S. I changed my password for this website now so, hopefully I can minimize the damage...
EDIT: I just further verified as my account has been logged into a server... Another thing which I NEVER do... (I'm not exactly social when playing Minecraft...)
EDIT: Two things, for those of you who are unsure of whether your account was 'hacked' or not, I suggest checking your skins. If it is one you didn't select, then you've likely been hacked.
Secondly, I am sorry for a double post. I usually edit my previous one rather than doing this, but I felt that this was important enough to 'bump' the thread...
Again, sorry for replying before anyone else has, but this thread 'appears' dead (no one has replied other then me.)
I got my account back.
Important things to note: Keep your purchase ID, it is the fastest way of getting it back. I haven't the slightest idea where mine went (hoping it is saved on my desktop, will find out when I set it up again).
Make sure your 'secret questions' are not publicly accessible information. If you are unsure if this is true for you or not search for yourself on the internet.
If you use third party software (i.e. things not created by you or Mojang) look it up before using it. Threads where the software is distributed (i.e. here) will often have people talking about their experiences using the software and if it is bad, don't use it... if it is empty, don't use it... if it isn't the above, (i.e. good reviews) then feel free to use it or not.
The rest you can find in any list of Tips on keeping your information secure. (Good passwords, etc).
To anyone else who has yet to retrieve a lost account, I wish you the best of luck.
Hi,
Someone requested a list of all users bound to this e-mail account.
If this wasn't you, you can safely ignore this e-mail, it won't bite.

That is all, happy mining.
