erm whenever i try to update the client to 12w26a it updates to 1.2.5. i've redownloaded minecraft probably five times and have disabled AVG so the updating says it works... but when the main menu loads it still says 1.2.5 in the bottom left corner. :/ any ideas what could be wrong?
So last night I was playing 12w25a "Open to LAN" with three of my brothers. We have been playing "Open to LAN" for a while now and it worked just fine (of course there are laggy glitches). Last night we are playing and then one by one my brothers save and quit, then I close the (my) world by saving and quitting, the same as we always have done. Come this morning I get on and "Open to LAN" my brothers try to connect... try to connect... try to connect... Failed to Connect. Nothing has happened or changed for us since last night to now, but for some reason we can't connect? Just out of the blue. They can see my LAN game when searching for LAN games and when they connect it fails.

What gives?
I tried S8ER01Z's idea using Direct Connect to IP:Port and they were both able to join me. For whatever reason we can no longer connect via "Scanning for LAN" (both version 12w25a and 12w26a) so we will now only use DIRECT CONNECT until there is a fix.
You must install snapshots manually. If you just click on Force Update you will only get the latest full version which is 1.2.5
so bascially i'd have to 1) put new mc client in my .bin folder 2) restart mc 3) login 4) update should start immediately? that's the order of things i'm doing and it gives me 1.2.5 every time.
i'm pretty sure i've followed those instructions exactly for previous snapshots and it's worked...

yeah, the .bin folder is empty except for new snapshot minecraft.jar and the folders it generates when it "updates". i am not using force update.

Save that single file, the minecraft.jar file, to your .minecraft/bin folder, and say "yes" when it asks if you want to overwrite the old file. Load up Minecraft and do NOT force update. You should have 12w26a at that point.
What's the general opinion on Emeralds at the moment? Are they even that useful? Do villagers even have things that are worth spending emeralds on? I thought maybe they could be used to make a really powerful, or useful potion. Maybe you could combine them with a tool to restore that tools durability by a significant amount or something. Or maybe a blacksmith villager could fully restore a tool/weapon/etc for like 10 emeralds, or something like that.
never mind, thanks everyone for your help. ^^ i cleared everything out of my .bin folder, let it update to 1.2.5, and then replaced the jar. it works now

Here's a likely bug: Blaze spawners in the nether do not spawn; the rooms where they are supposed to be are empty. The End portal is bugged as well. It's impossible to get to The End in this snapshot as far as I know.
1. Fire won't go out in rain
2. Arrows seem to trigger tripwire (may not be a bug)
3. tripwire can float
If these are meant to be, then I am sorry, hopefully someone important (Hi Jeb :D) sees this and can fix.

Did you delete the old minecraft.jar?

EDIT: He can't connect when I host, but if he hosts I can connect. I have the better computer, too. ._.
EDIT2: We are using identical files. We downloaded at the same time, put it in the same way. Both clean .minecraft.
