Well, if you really can't play without your mods then you can simply stay on the version and wait until the mod is updated. Since you don't really care about bugfixes either you won't have any disadvantages from waiting before you update.
We've been waiting months as it is... with each release it's just pushing mod makers to NOT release and continue to wait on the (soon) to release next push. This is getting old fast. STOP with the small updates and push it to one build so these mod makers can catch up already. good lord!!! 1.3.2. - 1.4 oops. no, 1.4.1. oops, no 1.4.2. - 1.4.3 oops no, 1.4.4 and now 1.4.5??? Seriously? Some of my Mods haven't released since 1.2.5... Give us a small break with the updates.. please!!!
In my opinion mojang should leave the pre-releases out for a good 3 weeks for thorough testing before they release these half baked updates only to discover the one bug they fixed just created two more.
I love Minecraft and that they fixed bugs, but please don't update minecraft quickly. Everytime there is a new update. Some of the mods will start updating and some of the mod owners decided not to update to 1.4.4 because 1.4.5 is coming. I updated to 1.4.4 and some other mod owners won't update to 1.4.5 because it's too fast either.
Save your bug fix reports for your website, Mojang. Also, It would be great if they worked on making it so the latest version of Minecraft can connect to early version servers. Like 1.4.6 users can play on servers as early of versions as 1.3.2 (Like in Unreal Tournament 99 if anyone remembers that game)
omg i just updated today to 1.4.4.... jeez and is it me or something but i feel since 1.4 stamina bar decreases faster and like creepers are spawning more than usual on normal.... like i've seen like 6 creepers at once in a single point.. (not in the dark)
Excellent. Torch bug seems to be fixed for me now :D.
As for people saying "OMG soo many releases"...
This isn't a release. It's a pre-release. If you don't understand the difference, you shouldn't be using the pre-release, let alone complaining about it.
All these updates for bugs really annoy me tbh. I appreciate the bug-quashing but I don't think there's really any need to segregate(not the right word) the updates like this. Just makes mod updating and such a pain in the ass.
The entire POINT of the prerelease is to make it easier for mod makers to make their mod work for that version before the update becomes official.
if you want your mods to keep working, Don't use a flipping pre-release. I really fail to understand the mentality of people that download pre-release software intended partly for mod authors and then complain about the mod situation. of course some of them might not work. it's a pre-release, intended to make it so mod authors can be ready for the actual release.
Compare to previous when nobody really had any idea when an update was coming out. One day there was an update and that was that. And then most people updated and the mods were broken because that day of the update was the first day they were ever able to even try to update their mods.
Couldn't they just "mod" the game, and have it auto-apply the fix "mod"? Seems redundant to change it so often, even though Minecraft Coder Pack can decrypt it seemingly easily.
An update is a modification to the game. It's just that other modifications are more heavily dependent on them. Also there is the issue of mods that change base classes, none of which work with one another anymore than they work on more recent versions of minecraft that have changes to those base classes.
I'm glad they are fixing bugs, but it sucks because the server I play doesn't update unless there's a recommended bukkit build or stable or whatever.
? I don't see the problem. I have a local 1.4.4 bukkit server for testing my plugin and the main server I play is 1.4.2 because the owner prefers to wait until a build is at LEAST in beta (rather than a dev build) before using it on the server. I've had no problems switching back and forth.
If these pre-releases are for modders to get their mods running for the next update, they seem kind of pointless. Mojang will just make another update and modders will have to do it all over again.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
Oh god, your precious mods! NO, please say it isn't so, that you have to live without something for a little while because someone actually wants to fix something, or a lot of somethings. All anyone ever does around here is whine whine whine because something is broken, and when the team starts working to get those problems taken care of, all anyone ever does around here is whine whine whine. Stop being a little baby and stfu! It's like a daycare around here.

Yes, they will. That's called the nature of a modding community. You can't just sit there and tell a company to stop fixing their product, hjust so you can have fun with an altered version. That's the price you pay for using 3rd party alterations. Now shut up about it.
This is starting to be very not-fun. I know the Halloween update was rushed and all, but it's getting to the point where I might as well go play something else until there's a stable version again.

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
"papa, what are content updates?"
"Son, they are something we had long ago. I understand all you young folk get are bug fixes nowadays, but back when they actually release content... it was beautiful..."

There are a lot of people who use that rather than setting up a local server.
I think that's just accent coming out there.
Mojang, thank you for fixing bugs. Thank you for giving us frequent updates about what's being fixed and what's changing. Thank you.

I hope not. I don't want to wait 7,00 years until my mods get updated, then the next day 1.4.6.5.3.2. or something will come out.
Figures.
