If scroll to the bottom of the pictures, you can see the "end of the world" in third person mode.
That's where they come from.
It's much better to relate them to something IN minecraft don't you think?
2. How they work
>Wander, pick up random blocks and place them randomly around if there is no player or light.
>Attracted to light, but won't go in it, stand on the edge of the light.
>If it's a torch they run into the light, catch fire, pick up the torch and run away with it
>If it's light-stone they just don't ****ing bother (or a lantern).
>they sometimes create partial nether portals or just random stone hedge like constructions.
>If they see a player, they stop dead and they all stare straight at the player till he looks away.
>They are peaceful, don't attack at all, if attacked they just poof away.
This would make them more of an ambient thing. More creepy then just attacking you.
Another idea
>Visit Endermen village
>They are all moving blocks and building structures
>Approach, they all stop and stare at me
>Back away, they go on moving blocks
>Approach again, they stare again
>Use bed
>As the world starts to fade out, you see a flash of the Enderman, face directly in front of your character
>Wake up
>No trace of him, it's like he was never there.
A story someone made up (not the best)
Day 18 after the crash
Still alive and well. Smelted and smithed my first iron today. I now have a crude iron sword to fight these monstrous beasts.
I'm writing to day to report on the strange patterns I found on the ground today. They are not natural, but are strangely random. I will search for more info tomorrow.
day 19
No change in the buildings, stayed inside for most of the day rained.
Day 20. The patterns are expanding, I think. They are getting more expansive and complicated. I beginning to see a pattern.
Day 24
I'm back at the house today. I watched the ruins for 4 days straight. I saw strange points of light surrounding the patterns and moving. I just saw floating pricks of light.
That's all.
Day 25.
I'm not going back to the ruins. I looked to where I staked out the patterns and saw three silhouettes in the window. I'm not going back.
Day 28
The patterns are finished. They form a shape. A skinny human thing with bony arms and legs and a monstrous head. I don't know what they are.
Day 30
I'm looking out of my window. The patterns are alive. They are moving. They're taking my torches away. I don't see it happen, but I know it does. When I look, the shadows stand stock still and stare at me with their white eyes. They are slowly moving towards my camp. I'm leaving now.
Another story/gameplay suggestion
>deep underground mining
>suddenly drop into pitch black room
>place a torch at your feet
>THE ROOM IS ABSOLUTELY FILLED WITH ENDERMEN ALL STARING AT YOU
>BEFORE YOU CAN REACT, AN ENDERMAN DASHES UP AND REMOVES THE BLOCK YOU PUT THE TORCH ON, LEAVING YOU IN THE DARK
>IN A PANIC, YOU QUICKLY PLACE ANOTHER TORCH
>THE ROOM IS COMPLETELY EMPTY, SAVE FOR YOU
>sleep mechanic implemented
>after a long day of work, you go to bed
>wake up in the morning, and go about your normal routine
>get an odd feeling that something is wrong
>look up
>the entire ceiling of your house is gone
>endermen surround the edges, just staring down at you
>you will never know how long they have been watching you

A collection of Ideas for the "Endermen". I know its already being worked on, but you never know what might happen.
-Immune to all damage except from lava, when it comes into contact with lava, cannot be put out, screams in pain and dies after 10 seconds.
-Avoids lava, at random one will jump into lava shouting a distorted " IM FREE"
-Is completely silent except when dying (no hit noise or red flash either)
-Stops construction and movement when player enters line of sight
-when one enderman notices the player, all become aware
-Head swivels to watch player, body doesn't
-Flees from any attacks, will try to bury itself if trapped, despawns when out of Line of sight
-Places signs with jumbled messages
-If near you when you die, places a chest and collects your inventory in it, and places a sign
-will randomly move blocks that the player hasn't set, replant saplings, and take flowers
-will not place blocks adjacent to player based blocks, will build walls around user created structures
-builds underground rooms, 10x15x3, 15 blocks below surface made of cobble with a staircase leading to the surface, entrance is created in half lit areas (under trees and such)
-avoids daytime mobs, night time mobs actively avoid them
-If alone, refuses to enter lighted areas, in groups will venture into poorly lit areas
-in large groups endermen will move torches from one area to another(5 block limit?)
-constructs crude villages when in large numbers with a double chest in the center. Town should be near an underground room.
---basic items (a stack or two of cobble, sand, dirt, sticks) are inside of the chest. If you empty the chest, they abandon the town, and if you alter the material in the chest, the towns construction will be altered (a house made with the bottom half dirt, the top half stone)
---Upon completion of the town, builds a bed in the center most building, furnishes it (paintings, bookcases, etc) along with 1 torch above the bed.
---At any point following the completion of the town, if the player is to sleep, he/she will wake up in the endermen town during the night. going to sleep in the endermen bed will take you back to your original bed during the day.
---If you explore the town you will find a single torch on the front of every house to provide enough light so you can see the inhabitants.
-Will build half formed portals to the nether 5-10 blocks below your home
-(alt) If a player sleeps in an endermen's bed without being teleported to it first, they wake up in a poorly lit obsidian prison cell with a iron door and no way out. there is a friendly skeleton mob in the room, who just stares at the door, waiting. you can go to sleep to return to the village.
-Can walk through gates, trapdoors, wooden doors and use ladders
(alt) Only appears after an area is stripped due to material gathering, attempts to return area to its original form (at world generation).
---Will collect material to rebuild the area from your chests, if they cannot get to your chest or there isn't sufficient material they will begin to dismantle your buildings, if they can no longer find any blocks placed by a player, they will attempt to hunt down and kill the player for material (alternative: a large group hunts you down during the night and surrounds you making it impossible to move. Either you throw blocks one at a time so that the mob will slowly disperse, or you wait out the night in your enderman cocoon.
(alt) endermen constantly emits whitenoise, but barely audible. Volume increases when endermen congregate. 5-10 endermen will be slight hum in the background, while 25-30 will be noticeable to the point of competing with the BGM
(alt) Endermen that have created and maintained a village for an ingame week will have collected enough material to create a massive Obsidian portal (or obsidian Lava pool). By sacrificing themselves they summon a massive enemy mob (suggested size is 10x10x15)
---Boss enderman (aka endross) speed is 3/4th walking speed, leaves a wake of darkness that dissipates if farther then 30 blocks from him. absorbs most light within a 5 block radius. (possible for endross to kill plantlife, trees and grass within trail fo darkness.)
---Endross will spawn in Endermen (keeps a maximum of 5-10) which will attempt to destroy all lightstones withing ten blocks of endross.
---Endross will attempt to destroy any user created structures, and will be able to disintegrate blocks slowly, can be baited away from structures using diamond , lapis, or gold blocks. This can be used to bait endross into glowstone traps (example, glowstones on pistons set to pop out in a circle, effectively trapping and killing endross)
--- If endross is killed, his body solidifies into obsidian. at the center lies a (I don't know, maybe an artifact for the adventure update?)
---endross is passive/still at night unless a light source is placed nearby.
(alt) means it goes against a previous idea.
All ideas posted are merely suggestions, and in no way expected to be added to minecraft.
Just felt like sharing.
It's not a freaking desert. It's a beach. The sand is only two tiles high, and there's snow on the far right bank. I'd say there's even water between the one holding dirt and the one holding sand.
Safe conclusions from pic:
Yay, mushrooms.
It's 3-4 blocks tall (closer to 3 I think)
It can hold blocks.
Risky conclusions:
It can break blocks (The hole right in front of the camera).
The only spawn at night.
They're hostile (else they would be creepy).
This mob looks like it will pick up and throw stuff of the floor (he is on sand so he is holding sand) then probable throws it at you when you walk by. So now even in your home he can come over and tear it up and get you. so above ground tthis will be trouble.
1. Name change
They should be called farlanders.
