What's the quickest way to reliably back up my official version of MC so I can play around with this snapshot and revert back to the official release if I want?
(1) Copy .minecraft folder and fall back to the copy. Explorer hates the lack of a filename so do it from the command prompt
(2) or patch up and then force update in the client launcher to roll back later.
I have a big problem...
When I start minecraft via .exe, with this version and the server.jar in the corretc folders, it works until I go to play a world...
It says:
Connecting to the Server
Connection refused: connect
What do I do?

Single player? Try again, then check the server.log in the .minecraft/server directory for problems if it still won't work.
does anyone agree with me when i say they need to add stuff that is hard to obtain? now that i can get coco beans from the jungle and arrows from gravel. what is there left to gather that is actually a challenge to find? iron and diamond appear so frequently its not funny so thats easy.
So here's a weird bug, I was unable to connect to the minecraft server to log in this morning. I thought it was no big deal so I played offline. When I went in to my snapshot world I had lost every item I was carrying and got reset to my spawn point. This was after I had spent some time building after hiking a long way off. Never had that happen in single player before.
I'm really starting to miss the no server single player mode. Especially when I'm noticing multiplayer lag when eating, placing blocks, and other regular tasks I never had problems with before.
Is it me, or does anyone else think that finding jungles next to arctic biomes is more than just a bit silly. That said, I am pleased with the cocoa idea, but multiplayer-wise, we need a more efficient growing/harvesting system for apples/cocoa. Love the large biomes idea, and I'm thinking the next time we regenerate the world, that'll be the way to go.
When I sleep, I get the 'Chat-Box' for the cheats, even though I turned them off. It may be because I'm in a jungle biome but I'm not sure.
This happens anywhere in the game now. It's a multiplayer thing I think where the server is trying to confirm that all clients are going to sleep.
I was able to log in again and now I got everything back I lost in an earlier post. I love everything about this update except for the single and mutliplayer convergence of code. It's totally ruining the game play of Minecraft for me when I'm doing single player only.
Hell I liked Minecraft over that Maniac Digger thing because they were doing the client/server setup before Minecraft started doing it in this update snapshot. Minecraft was just smoother game play and now it's going to the dogs with this client/server stuff.
1. Server performance issues are not fixed
2. The MANY muilti-player bugs are not fixed
3. Lag on local hosts is not Fixed
4. Item lost caused by playing online then playing offline not fixed
Merging Single player with Muiltiplayer is the worst thing Mojang can do too minecraft while all the above issues haven't been fixed yet. Muilti-player has had some of these issues for years. Suddenly merging the 2 clients is not going to be a fix all. Infact it will create new bugs that may take longer too fix.
All it's going to do is force all players who want to play survival single player too not update beyound 1.2.5. If you can't fix the muiltiplayer and server performance issues BEFORE doing a merge with single player then it should NEVER happen.
