Sure, notch's twitter is SOMEWHERE on the front page, but it's out of the way. (Though you do have me there) He did NOT make a post about it on his websites. Notch is also human, he's allowed, amirite? And he ONLY posted it on his Twitter.. Reddit is.. eh, that's debatable. Leaving that for another day.
As of right now, Notch has 498,553 followers on Twitter. As is obvious from the furor that has arisen from his tweet, this is sufficient to be damaging without also making a post on the website and blog. Since those tweets they have also appeared on numerous blogs and have appeared in news sites like PC Gamer to be seen by numerous other people. Since the tweets the Yogscast have lost hundreds of thousands of subscribers and are currently being subjected to a DDOS attack. The damage of Notch's statements is beyond question, regardless of where he put them.
Before you go "Yogscast are human too, they're allowed!" ... What reason did they have to be jerks? I mean.. none, really. Unless there's something none of us really know about, I don't see a reason for them to act how they acted. It was rather subtle, but you can see a lot of poking in some videos.
Do you have any evidence that the Yogscast were jerks other than Notch's tweets and your opinion on their subtle behavior in some videos? It's up to the accuser to provide proof and so far Notch has provided none? In fact, Notch is now saying it was a misunderstanding, how does that match up with the Yogscast's guilt in your mind?
I also wouldn't put it past Yogscast either about being stuck up internet celebs. I've seen it more than once, for sure... People who do LP's and other things, get famous for them on the INTERNET, then act like they're better than everyone else... even if they act nice to your face. Also decided to look over the panel about Yogscast and crap.. Yeah, they were definitely poking at Notch's game a bit too much, and trying to promote their mods a lot... I would've gotten annoyed too. Developing games can be seen as an art.. imagine if someone looked at your painting and decided that it was crap without their own flair. They redrew a bunch of things and recolored half of it... That's like spitting on his "art." I would be kind of pissed myself. "LOL GAIZ THIS GAME IS SH^T WITHOUT MODS LOLOL"
So your opinion is that Notch can't take criticism or jokes and so that justifies his unproven tweets? Again, you aren't proving anything but are building an argument on speculation and prejudice without facts.

Notch (and the yogscast for that matter) is not responsible for his follower's actions.
its extremely refreshing to see a group behave in such a classy manner in response to a direct attack on them. I personally like Notch and the Yogscast so I figured it was just a misunderstanding. Honestly you have to understand Notch is human despite everyone making him out to be the "god" of minecraft so he is gonna make mistakes. Minecon sounded like it was a fun but stressful situation so its very easy for a misunderstanding to occur. I think Notch responding to this and admitting that this could all be a misunderstanding becuase of stress took alot of character, made all the easier by yogscast disarming video and reddit post. Understand this could have easily erupted into a huge flame war that could go on forever so well played yogscast.
Wrong. So wrong...
Notch IS responsible for his follower's actions, what he isn't is accountable.
Edit: Also, this incident is most likely going to cause him to be held accountable in sales of MC in future if he doesn't fix or prove this random outburst in some way.
How? He did not actually make a command to do something.
Yes, because the fanboys would still be DDoSing the Yogscast forums if Notch hadn't tweeted. Yeah that makes sense. Also, Notch is responsible for angering Yognauts who, probably along with people from this community, calling him a liar on twitter.
This is stupidity... The only person responsible for your actions is yourself.
well yeah i'm not saying he should be held directly responsible for some moron DDOSing the yogscast website, exactly. but when he speaks a lot of people listen. if he didn't realize that before he sure as hell will now. someone mentioned libel earlier in this thread - it's a legitimate legal offense to ruin someone else's reputation in a way that can be demonstrated to affect their lives negatively. if someone libels a grocery store chain with false accusations, the people who stop shopping there are not the ones who get charged with libel.
not that i'm saying yogscast should sue. legal action sounds a bit excessive, and it's complicated by the fact that notch made minecraft in the first place. i just hope they'll work it out with notch peacefully and in private, which is what i think should've been done in the first place. it's not good to be having these kinds of confrontations in the public eye when there's so many people watching it happen. the yogscast and notch ARE all just human after all, but communities like this one are not particularly forgiving or understanding about that.
tldr who knows the full story about how the yogscast behaved at minecon besides them, we have to piece it together from bits of footage, reports from people who met them for all of 30 seconds, etc, which is likely how notch pieced it together too. but i do think notch made a big mistake by going off on them on his twitter account.
after a long few days like that you can not get too upset over things such as this happening. a gathering like this is hard to make . how yogcast replayed and how notch responded after was a good thing. people make mistakes all the time. i am just very happy they both seem to be working it out.
Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa!! just wait a minute here! this article is so biased in favor of Notch. Im not a Yogscast, ive never watched them, so before anyone calls me a fanboy, let's get those retarded thoughts out of your head. The fact of the matter is, Notch jumped the gun, called out these guys and down right insulted them and slandered them leading to real life harassment and DDoSing of their website all because he was too immature to man up and find out what really happened? Lets be honest here, Notch had a great idea for a game, then he got the money and pretty much lied to everyone, and now the minecraft fan boys are going to defend their hearts out because they enjoy the game rather than seeing for what it truly is: Notchs umpteenth mistake and lie. He is way too immature. He tried to settle a real court case with a game of quake, he cried on twitter when he heard false rumors about these kids and then he realizes that his fanbase is turning on him because of his own mistake and hes STILL yet to directly apologize? this article says he has apologized, but there has been no proof of it. His "apology" was him trying to throw it off as a misunderstanding rather than accepting responsibility for a mistake. I'm sorry Notch, but if i could go back i wouldnt support you and wouldnt have ever bought this game. You started off as a promising game creator, took the money and then showed your true colors when you became too lazy to even make patches, took more vacation days than working days, and then finally released a game that is nowhere near finished and is still full of bugs because you were too immature and lazy to work out kinks and push back the release date. As for Yogscast, i feel they handled themselves very well, and in a twist of irony they have been the more mature ones throughout this whole ordeal and i can say that instead of ruining their fan base as we all know Notch intended to do with his tweets, he has actually exposed himself and helped them. This is one new subscriber they will have.
for anyone who disagrees with my point of views:
1. you dont have to agree, but if you don't rethink your position because at the end of the day, innocent people had their reputation slandered by a man who has taken your money in exchange for broken promises
I'm glad that neither of the subsequent responses to notch's twittering aren't highly argumentative. Kind of sad though because this was all a huge misunderstanding and could've gotten several people in trouble.
ehh, to be fair his response on twitter is pretty prudent. it sounds like he hasnt talked to them yet so for now ill give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he will apologize later after he's had a chance to sort things out with yogscast directly.
The fan-bases for both of these arguments seems a tad bit immature. Feels like I'm reading a Stars weekly magazine or something...
Regardless of how this whole thing feels... I believe notch shouldn't have said what he said. I feel inclined to believe Notch was stressed and tired from the weekend. I also believe he is sorry, he may not have came out and said those words, but from his twitter post, I can slightly pick up on it.
As for the Yogscast, I'm not a big fan of there's...but am I going to label them as the bad guy who deserves to have there website dossed or what ever it is called? No. The fan bases both jumped the gun and attacked one another. When did two people's arguments become everyone's arguments? Granted this all started with a twitter post from Notch, but regardless...this mess needs to be handled by Yogscast and Notch alone, not by a witch hunt that seems to exist on both sides going after one another.
I say chill out...this argument doesn't involve us.
I have disliked Notch since well before Minecraft became popular, I do like Minecraft although single player survival has become tired and all but innovative.
Let me explain this as simply as possible, if there was a misunderstanding between people it was most certainly Notches fault, ask Rolf.
hmm my faith in notch is withering, it doesnt seem he is the glorified god of indie games i know some portray him as. the yogscast are amazing people and yes they are very immature, watch their videos and you will see. people at their panel complaining about their language or immaturity shouldnt be at that panel since you should know what to expect from them. for their response and shake my head to notch
I think people are taking notches tweets in the wrong light; he mentioned they weren't working with someone next year, people asked who and he told them. Then when people started raging for an explanation he gave it, a few things Notch stated were true, they had a lot of unnessesary swearing and they should have done a proper Q/A panel rather than that stupid powerpoint. There have been a number of people who have described the Yogscast Diva attitudes which I am inclined to believe, they have both become a bit snobbish and they have been known to claim a lot of minecrafts success as their own. Additionally they did act harshly towards Mojang in their presentation, this was rude.
People argue Notch is immature, which I kinda get... but I found his masturbation joke funny, surly being immature is a freedom of indie development. By contrast they yogscast twitter feed was spammed with retweets of every person who went to minecons positive reviews, that to me is immature and unncessesary.
Notch is clearly isn't the worlds most hardworking developer, but really people the fact that the game is a good as it is gives you no excuse to complain. People saying they wouldn't have bought the game, go f*ck yourself! The 4 Million odd people who bought the game in Alpha and Beta spent £12 on hundreds of hours of potential play time, your the greedy one if you aren't satisfied.
Parts of this are my own opinion, other parts are true. X's Adventures (and my friends) made me buy the game and I'm not a fan of Shadows of Israphel at all, I think Notch made a great game and is a credit to indie development!

So you disagree with the Yogscast about mods and that proves that they were crossing out autographs? How exactly?
[sarcasm]I can't imagine how anyone would believe you didn't like the Yogscast...[/sarcasm]
If your arguments are strong you don't need to declare that you are not on a team. Your irrational arguments however fall short of a strong case.
I would encourage you to use it while constructing your arguments then.

True, however, these consequences were in the form of other people, who decided to take things into their own hands.
