ok im going to try to keep my head here... ARE YOU COMPLETELY FRIKEN RETARDED i don't see you doing any games of your own. not even a mod. yet you claim this award is not deserved and he is not worthy!!!! * deep breathing *
so you are telling me that you think he doesn't deserve an award because a major BETA update seems broken to you. and just in case you don't know what BETA means... IT MEANSUNSTABLE PRE-RELEASE BUILD!! and he did not " accidentally broke his child's spine ("Adventure update") and a few months later left it." by your analogy he brought it to the doctor jeb, a focused and devoted man who has brought us more productivity in three updates than in the last four. notch saw that his fans want more so he handed it over to jeb because he is more focused and better connected to the modding community. i don't call that abandonment i call it care for his "child" and for his fans.
what do you consider as broken anyway? this is the official recorded bug list for 1.8
New bugs:
There is a memory leak mainly occurring on Linux 32 bit.
The destruction animation for chests is missing.
Lighting persists in water even after the light source is removed.
Experience orbs when dropped don't drop in a stack like items do, so when a player dies when they have a large number of experience, each orb has to be processed individually. This will cause a high amount of lag, especially for SMP servers.
Double chests placed before 1.8 on multiplayer servers all appear to players to be facing the same direction, even when they should be rotated by 90 degrees.
The Item Selection screen in the new Creative game mode is missing pine and birch leaves, tall grass, double slabs, monster spawner, snow cover, and both huge mushroom blocks.
NPC villages occasionally spawn over partial water areas and 'float'
nope not seeing any game-breakers there to rationalize your comments
Notch+Mojang=Minecraft, I buy minecraft, and minecraft=my free time. The Notch wins awards, Minecraft now = the best free time i've ever had! Great job Notch, you deserve it, you created minecraft for pete's sake!
Going to be honest here. He did not deserve it. He abandoned his baby, Minecraft when the game was nearly broken from the adventure update.
If he stayed and fixed it up for a bit then left. I would have felt differently.
Ummm... Ever heard of a guy named JEB? kinda did some sort of programming for some sandbox building game? nahhhh, It's a well known fact that all of the new content added to Minecraft post 1.8 is done by poltergeists.

"I-I didn't know you could do that!"
"I could write a BOOK about what you don't know!" ~Skeletor
