the golems respawn when dead and they drop number of iron bars, these villages are abit op on Iron collectin just by killin them over again, we got enough iron as it is =[ stop making minecraft too easy
remember wool collection pre 1.8? i dont want to go back to that. im glad for certain changes. easier iron? sure! means i can build my railroads even faster now. i wouldnt say it is that easy. as u either have to kill the golems or watch them die from zombies. so it isnt the fastest way. u can probably get more iron mining.
now... if only gold was easier to get... killing pigmen doesnt gaurantee gold nuggets and my luck at mining gold ore SUCKS!
Yep been waiting for this for a LONG LONG time. Going to make some very sweet buildings now. much more detail. Just think if we had gravity boots too and could walk on the ceiling. and build upside down too. now that would be fun. but no really this is just
for aesthetics. Im happy about it.
Still no terrain generation over 128. Very sad. Thanks for the updates though. I hope we get some big mountains in the future.
i didnt think jeb would implement that so soon. maybe in another snapshot. who knows. ill be ok with that as long as i can find a nice mod that can generate a 256 high world for me. deeper oceans! higher skies! huge huge biomes! thats what im hoping for.
Agree with that! They're focusing pretty hard on the damn villages, they should release 1.2!
No they need to get terrain generation under control before they rls. 1.2 You want maps that arent any taller than 128 even though its been raised to 256? Wouldn't you call that unfinished? I would.

Yea we can only hope. if 1.2 is released without better terrain generation I will be completely let down.
On some random places in the world small areas of blocks are completely dark for no reason. If you destroy one of the blocks, the area covered with shadow will disappear.
That's been around for a while. Just like you'll see sand suspended to the sides of other sand blocks (or other blocks) when there is nothing below it to keep it from falling (when it should fall). When you update an adjacent block (attach a torch to it, etc.) it will cause the sand to fall.
I don't know if I'm being too OCD about this, but I don't like how the old golems keep their pumpkin head and the new ones don't and how the tamed dogs only get a collar while ocelots are transformed into housecats when fed. Either way, these new mobs are awesome, especially the golems, their perfect.
Also, villagers should buy ores for food or experience or something since they don't seem to have any miners, and they seem like they could use a lot of them.
Suggestion: Player created iron golems have pumpkin heads, while village golems look like they do now.
That Iron Golem would be a pretty good thing to lure in for mob traps. The End is back, lighting is fixed, and Redstone Lamps aren't completely powered by your computer, which is good things weren't disregarded or forgotten. Also, I like the overturned stairs and their formation. It adds to building, and doesn't require you to inconveniently craft it while you already have normal stairs.
I think this is going to be the last or close to the last of the snapshots until the next update. See how little was done? Only a couple of good additions and some bug fixes. The final package will be all that has been implemented in the snapshots, a few new things to surprise us, and a large fix of many small glitches. Then there will be more "snapshots", and new things will be added until the end of Minecraft.
Don't tell me about it! I feel bad only for thinking about it.
Anyway, waht Jeb said on Twitter makes me think 12w09 will be the last snapshot.
They should thrust there arms down, not up when attacking
I disagree. Golem uppercut is awesome! (I once made a quake mod that had earth elementals in it, very similar to these iron golems, and they had both smash and uppercut, and uppercut is way more awesome) What it should do is knock enemies up into the air a little more.
Should be able to fire arrows through the gap
There's a serious technical issue with this, which is that currently bounding boxes for blocks are just that: A box. Making the bounding box for stairs exactly match the contours for stairs would mean having multiple bounding boxes for one block, or allowing more arbitrary geometry for bounding boxes. Either way significantly complicating collision detection.
This is why fence corners have a bounding box that "sticks in" from the corner, because otherwise it'd need two boxes for the two directions of fence.
Not saying it shouldn't be done, just saying you have to be realistic about the trade-off with the feature and the effort to implement it.
Quite frankly, we needed a Villager update/ overhaul. So far, the majority of 1.2 has been just that. We still need a reason to protect or attack them (like quests, rewards, etc.), but at least there's a little more to them now than mindlessly wondering around, until they fall to their deaths or get killed (ala Mo Creatures Croc, Shark, or other Mo Creatures hunter animal.) I hope there's still a few more snapshots left before 1.2. I want this to be the big Villager update we've been needing.
As of the other people, I'm confident Jeb will do some sort of Cave or World Generation update in the future. 1.2 has clearly been a Villager and AI (in general) update. Sure, we also saw Jungles added (a biome that was desperately need, along with Tropical Islands and true Savannahs, not the old biome with the same name), but besides that and world height thing, the main additions have been improved mobs, animals, and villagers.
I do hope Jeb eventually gets around to adding biome specific mobs and animals to per-existing biomes as well. If they're going to add biome-specific animals to the brand new biomes (not the including the rehash ones, like Taiga and Snow biomes), why not the pre-existing ones? (Maybe, Snow Golems could spawn naturally in Snow and Taiga biomes, for starters.) Anyhow, I hope 1.3 is another mass bug kill-a-thon and optimization update, as someone suggested in the Suggestions section.

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.

best picture on this thread. lol. i laughed pretty hard at work when i saw that.

Because the last snapshot generated no caves.Except for abandoned mineshafts

According to the wiki, yes.

P.S. I love that Iron Golem reference to "Castle in the Sky"
